Just wondering what the avg oil temp is on the MFA for valvers. There’s been a lot of posts about G60 and VR oil & water temps. I’m wondering what’s the avgs for 16Vs? Has anyone upgraded the oil cooler in their valver?
-
Was just out with a mate who has the 1.8T in his 94 valver. He’s got a water cooler for his turbo. Avg engine/oil temps were 75-80 Degrees! The odd spat of 85 giving it some on the motorway. You can grab the inlet manifold / rocker cover after driving it 70 miles! Fierce acceleration from the yoke !

I was under the impression motorway driving keeps the engine cooler than in traffic unless its being thrashed on the motorway? Should I have reason to be worried if my oil temp settles at 96 on the motorway and goes up 5-10 degrees in traffic?
-
whats your oil temp? my valver sits at 80-85 water temp but the oil temp can go up to 106 in traffic. There is a fairly direct correlation between the water temp and oil temp usually about 15-20% higher oil temp. (On the 1.8 16V) I would imagine the G60s runs a bit cooler oil depending on the intercooler etc.

There is a quite a bit Ive done to it over the past year - upgraded the brakes and suspension (2 pot front calipers and mrk iv rears, H&R coilovers) and I intend putting in the upgraded headlight loom in the near future. Ive also put on the lupo wipers and rebuilt the head replacing all major components like starter motor, dizzy, water pump, stat, to mention a few. There are a couple of small rust patches on the OS wing and at the back box, Ive replaced all the front bushes and wishbones/link rods wheel bearings/hubs and new disks and pads all round. Ive also upgraded the brake lines with goodridge and sparco lines. I guess ill just have to leave it in and wait and see how it goes, chances are it could fail on emissions and the brake lines from what I hear.

I’ve got to MOT or NCT as its known in Ireland the corrado soon. Its a 1989 16V with 176K. Is there anything specific that fails these cars? Anything I should look out for/replace repair/borrow for the test? I’ve heard already nightmare storys about old brake lines needing replacing anything else I need to get the paint out for ?

I’ve been there, I was wondering if they were all that slow at doing the job.

Id give them about a week to bed in, where/who rebuilt them for you?

The actual springs play a big part in the quality of ride. I’ve had bilstein springs in the past and they were an improvement over standard VW springs. Having switched to H&R coilovers and springs there is a huge difference, H&R are prob the best springs going and the quality of ride with the drop prob the best you can get but at a price as with anything of quality.

ARB bushes? Had a slight knocking noise on my valver before I replaced the front ARB and bushes.

As far as I know the VR rear callipers are not fully alloy which can cause the same probs as the mrk 2 calipers. Mrk iv rears are full alloy callipers and are less prone to seizing.

I thought as much, its pretty useless if its falling off into your engine bay tho.
-
I removed some of this foam from my valver recently and Im pretty sure I noticed more engine noise in the cabin. Is this dynamat stuff effective at reducing the noise? Or is it for insulation/eat distribution?
-
Are corroded brake lines a common MOT fail ?
-
There are a couple of storms in Ireland most are up north tho. Track days are a general meeting place for most corrado owners in the republic. You can check out the dates etc on the VAGE website.

I think the early 8V mrk 3s had the threaded fittings the later 16Vs had the banjos.
-
There should be a temp sensor that it connects to on the rocker cover as RW1 said near the bottom left corner in the photo.

Anyone check out that new Audi channel on sky digital? Channel no 259 looks good I watched a programme on the A8 at the weekend great TV

Simple solution to that EVO is a supercharger a low revs :) like the new Golf GT is getting.

I’ve got a very reliable and economical A3 for a daily runner, great to drive plenty of grip and safe as can be. It lacks the soundtrack and exhilaration of the corrado, bringing out the C for a tear now and again makes all the hard work even sweeter & its not as stressful to get the car back on the road when doing a job on it as some people have mentioned.
-
It could be the case, there is a new battery in it tho and I had the engine running each time I tested it. I didn’t get much progress on my spongy brakes after using the easy bleed. They improved a bit but there is still a good 1-2 inch travel on the pedal when the servo kicks in. I went looking for bleed nipples on the press regulator + servo but couldn’t find anywhere else to bleed from.

Has anyone experienced this with the lupo wipers? I was testing them out at the weekend and they wipe the screen very well but they are well slow, even on the fastest setting they just about move an average pace. I have an early valver so im thinking the wiper motor might be on its last legs, Im pretty sure the old wiper blades moved almost twice as fast as these ones with the same motor tho. Does anyone know if the newer Passat/golf iv/bora wiper motors will fit or am I better off looking for a late VR motor?

Great looking corrados what drop do you have on your car?
