Hi Jim, Read your post with real interest, I've had Rado's for many years, the first one being at the age of 23 and that was nearly 17 years ago! I've owned 6 in total and had the current one for 6 years. It's absolutely perfect and I've had to do nothing to it other than routine services for the last 3-4 years. In fact I'm always wondering how I get away with such trouble free motoring when I read all the issue on here! However the main problem for me is that I only have a single garage and since buying an Audi cab last year the Corrado is stored in a friend's garage 30 miles away! I used to pay £12 per week for a garage locally but even then it was such a pain going to get it and rarely bothered. so then it was sorned and now I'm thinking of selling. But then I think I'll never find another one as good as mine etc etc and worry that I will want another one! I'm selling the Audi and will then bring the Corrado home but unless I'm in love all over again it will be going to another good hime. There' so many nice cars out there and I can afford to run something quite nice as a second car and fell for me maybe it's time to move on. I'm 40 this year and I think that has something to do with it too! But as others have said if you have the slightest thought that you might want another one some day then keep the one you've got....

I'm in the midst of applying for mortgages myself too and the best rates by far imo are with HSBC. They have 5 yr fixed at 3.49% with 70% LTV or lifetime bank of england tracker at 2.09 above boe so current rate 2.59% and this rate has no redemption penalties (one to watch out for if you don't think you'll be in the house for long) and no charge for overpayments, plus it's completely portable. Only thing is I've found them a bit of a nightmare - have to jump through hoops to get the mortgage and I find out tomorrow! Personally I've never fixed and this has always paid off for me with falling rates. I agree with others above that the only way is up now but then you have to consider how quickly they will rise because the banks always factor that in and charge you a higher rate to fix. So for example if you get a fix for 2 yrs at 4% but you can get a tracker for 2.59% then the boe rate has to rise by 1.5 for you to be worse off and that's very unlikely in the next 2 yrs. The other thing to watch is good deals for 2 yrs but if they default back to their own SVR (rather than boe base rate) you might get stung. SVR's for building socs seem really high and therefore not such a good deal (4-5% quite often). Dominic Morrison has been very helpful for me, he's in Oxford and is contactable on 01993 812636.

I have an original, was given to me by a mate who bought a brand new Golf VR6 in 1997 and he'd asked the dealer for it as a present! I was so chuffed and still have it now. What are the orginals worth, might consider letting it go!

Great to read this post, we're about to give my Dad his 60th Birthday present - tickets for the Friday and Sat for him, me and brother, can't wait now and looks like we picked the best days. We couldn't find a B&B though with availability for miles around and any available were charging £40 supplement per person per night for this weekend! So we've ended up in Worthing!

Thanks guys for your help, I ordered a replacement relay but was still the same, however after some swapping around of wires it eventually worked so I think that dirty connections were to blame thankfully.
-
Hi all, I've got a problem with my offside headlight. When I turn on main beam the main beam doesn't work and the headlight goes back to side light. I've swapped the relays over (Ripaults 202552) and now the headlight won't come when dipped but the main beam works perfectly and the headlight then comes on too. So I deduce it must be a faulty relay? I've googled these relays but can't find anything in the UK, so does anyone know where I can get one or what I need to ask for as an equivalent? It has 4 spade connectors and a brown, red and 2 yellows or 2 whites connect to it? I have the MOT coming up this Sat so need to sort! Cheers.

I have cream leather and although the factory only ever offered seemingly one shade the colours are different between earlier and later cars. The later ones are more 'cream' if you know what I mean, all storms have this shade, however earlier cars seem to have a cream that I have to look twice at to decide it is cream, it's not as yellow in colour, like there's less pigment in the dye, hope this makes sense! So it could well be that you have a mix of the two, or it could be that where the interior has been stored some panels have been in sunlight or something.

I had mine re-coloured here http://www.clean-image.co.uk/leather_upholstery.htm They 'spray the leather to match and mine is perfect after 3 yrs (although rarely gets used!). I had the cheaper option but the dearer version is supposed to give a longer lasting finish and it's cheaper than a retrim. They can repair tears etc too. I don;t think black seats with beige door cards would look right personally, black carpets etc with all beige seats looks fine but mixing seats and doorcards may look odd.

Aqua blue and beige leather is the way forward, nice one mate! However I did think I was the only one

Funny to my old post re-appear! I can report that the pedal feels better now unless I've just got used to it. However I don't think the new valve has been set properly. I have a fault now with ABS and when the system is deactivated (when light is on), sharp braking results in rear wheels locking up, esp the nearside as the car slews sideways. I guess there is too much braking force going to the rear which should only normally happen when the car is fully laden? Can anyone explain if my theory is right and how to correct the balance so that the compensator (which was newly fitted) works correctly?

I had a similar problem, would idle fine but as soon as you rev it would misfire and only rev up to about 3-4000 rpm max. It was like this for the first few miles but would run fine when the engine was hot. It turned out to be the engine speed sensor, the wires had chaffed on the engine and casued this problem, not a cheap part but a simple fix. I can't remember th exact name but it's not the crank position sensor it's the other one. Hope you cure it!

Beige with beige carpets as per the original - looks great and really brightens up the interior imo, looks classy too. I spent years searching for mine in Aqua Blue with beige leather.

Mmmm, this sounds like an interesting line of enquiry. All I can say is that when these cars were new I'm sure people would have been straight back to the dealers if their guages were showing nearly 110 before the fans cut in and I'm sure the guage should stay around 90. The fact that mine is dead on 90 when moving suggests to me my guage is fine. It's since I had a new thermoswitch in the rad that my temps are up and I wonder whether later batches of these are incorrectly manufactured and have a higher opening temp for the fans to kick in? Or this resistor theory or broken wire makes sense as mine too will put the fans on when I turn the ignition off as this circuit seems to work correctly and knows the engine is too hot. It's very frustrating and a bit concerning that the engine is so hot.

Hi guys, Going to see a 2.0 16v Corrado tomorrow that my local VAG dealer have taken in px against an Eos. The lady has had it from new and it's done a genuine 74k with all service history and MOT's to prove. It's an early 2.0 on a 92J in Moonlight blue. He says it has a bit of rust on the drivers door at the bottom and a few light scrapes on the bumpers etc but otherwise everything works inc the sunroof and it runs perfectly. I'm thinking about £2k, what does anyone else think?

You'll love the KW's, they suit the C perfectly.

My garage suggested a leaking master cylinder caused by the seals becoming inverted - due to the fact that he used a high pressure bleed system which forces fluid into the reservoir and back through the system in thw wrong direction. Does this sound possible and would bad seals give a soft pedal similar to air in the system?
-
Mine goes up to nearly 110 too before the fans cut in. Also I've just noticed that when I turn the engine off when hot and the fan was on with the engine running, the fan stays running but then cuts off and then on for say 5 seconds, then off and on at least 10 times for 5-10 second intervals. It's like its become really sensitive and thinks it's cooled but then the heat quickly returns triggering the fan again - any ideas? Also I'm convinced a lot of Corrados show nearly 110 before the fans cut in as I see a lot of posts about this but mine didn't used to until I changed the rad switch and I wonder if there's a common fault no-one has got to the bottom of? Surely they should stay around the 90 mark as all other cars I've had generally stick around the centre? About the only part I've not changed is the water pump - could this be weak therefore not pumping water through the radiator and around the thermoswitch quickly enough to trigger it - i.e. the water in the engine block is much hotter?
-
I'd like to see thoughts on this too after at least 7 attempts to bleed mine...

I suffer the same problem and the products mentionned do improve the look for a bit but one of mine has turned almost brown. I bought a new one for one side from VAG but the passenger side is now obsolete.

Hi all, Just fitted an induction kit after driving another VR with one fitted and loving the noise 8) I have a Shrick manifold and had the car remapped to get the most out of that. However now the airflow should be better I wondered whether I should get it remapped again? It feels as though there's no benefit in flooring the throttle, this makes it roar more but in terms of pick up it seems just as good with say 3/4 throttle. I also feel as though I've lost some mid range torque. Does this sound like there's too much air and not enough fuel? Also fitted the auxilliary guauges, what should the oil pressure be at idle and then at say 80mph? Thanks.
-
How much did they charge for fitting? I might take mine over as I've had them since Xmas and not got round to it.
-
I've put a deposit down on one, it's refundable so I'll wait to see what it's like before taking the plunge. Should be available Sept and they only have 6 coming in my dealer for the rest of the year so will be pretty scarce.
-
I just bought these at Xmas and haven't fitted them yet as I can't see how I can get to the pressure sensor with the Schrick manifold in the way. In any case, I'd order quick as I nearly didn't get mine due to low stock apparently. VW wouldn't release without the chassis number and they had to say I had them from new and had gone faulty (or so they said).
