  1. Cheers my good man, having not had the hose off the car what sort of fitment does the standard hose have?
  2. I need some advice on 288mm callipers. I recently picked up some Passat front calipers and carriers for a local scrappy, looked to be right. Now ive got all the hoses and banjo bolts Im starting to notice I might have some problems. The main difference I can see is the way the Passat hose joins to the caliper, there is a small copper pipe that attaches to the caliper then runs to a bracket where it meets the hose. Thought nothing of this at the time having never seen a Mk3 one. Now that ive got the Goodridge mk2 – mk4 hoses, and using M10x1 bolts ive found that they screw it but don’t fully bottom out, approx 4mm to long. I was contemplating having the bolts milled down by an appropriate amount to allow for a snug fit. As the calipers are intended for a copper pipe the seal is made at the inner end, as opposed to the outer surface for a banjo. Is it safe enough to proceed cutting and fitting banjos, or should they be abandoned and look for some Mk3 replacements. Any help welcomed
  3. Looking some advice in connection with changing the clutch slave. Problem ive got is the hydraulic line into the slave refuses to budge, ive covered it in numerous liberal applications of WD40 and left for some time and still wont loosen. It reached a point where it feels like the hex might round off. Does anyone have any tips on how to loosen it off so as to save it for reuse. If its not going to come off without force, how far back up the line would i have to replace. Any help would be greatly appreciated
  4. If its of any use ill have a 2 year only complete 280mm brake setup coming off my VR in next week.

    What oil?

Bit on an naive question prehaps. When carrying a change involving switching oils for a semi to a fully synthetic oil, is it advisable to drop the sump and give it a clean. Or is it just sufficient to change the filter? Heard Mr Haywire singing the Sikolene tune leading to reduced usage. Service time is about here, and as the old girls not getting any younger i thought i treat it to some good stuff.
  6. Is that an OBD2 2.8 mani on the right ?
  7. I believe not, the 2.8 is a little more restrictive than its marginally larger counterpart
  8. Looks sweet, really loving those Porka wheels look right at home on the C
  9. Cant help with design defects, but well worth getting some self amalgamating tape to get things water tight.
  10. As long as your old lock barrels are still working you wont need to re-tumble the locks on the new ones. When i changed my handles i used the old barrels, just insert a key, remove circlip, spring etc from the back. Repeat in reverse on the new handle.
  11. Watch out for changing standard springs, if yours are original you will notice quite a difference in height with new ones. It’s quite amazing how much 10 years worth of use causes them to sag. I remember when I had mine changed it went from ok to off roader, wasn’t too please. 2-3000 mile later they cam off and have moved on to Koni's.

    VAG

Yes it will work with OBD, both standards share the same pin arrangment.
  13. Only the front spring plates differ between early and late. Im no expert, but i pretty sure if you've got coilovers all the plates you will require come as part of the struts.
  14. EDSTARVR6, how much was it for the refurb ? I spotted my local tyre place is a Pristine agent, and with results like those look worth the money.
  15. Henny have you managed to align you roof correctly to stop wind noise ? I installed one a couple of weeks ago and just cant get mine spot on, did you use any spacers ?
  16. Cheers Steve, been trying to live with it over the past days and its getting pretty annoying. I'll take both sides apart to see whats what and compare the gaps, im fairly sure its something to do with that. If all else fails ill be buying another, good to know that solved your issue.
  17. Morning All Cant seem to locate the required information with the search, so apologises if its been posted before. Just had to fit a replacement ABS sensor to the front drivers side. I was totally shocked by whatever muppet had carried work out previously around the hub, had bent the rotor causing it to make contact and worn the end off the old sensor. (This would explain the sensor fault) Since fitting the replacement the ABS is cutting in quite a lot when pulling up to junctions, which it didn't do before unless you stamped on the brakes. As the rotor required a little reshaping, im wondering if the gap between the sensor and rotor is too great now that its triggering the ABS Does anyone know what the required / recommend gap between a front ABS sensor and the rotor is? Should they almost be touching ? Cheers Ross

    pollen filters?

Taking a wild guess, id say it fits into the plastic housing for the air feed on the scuttle panel.
  19. Thanks Chris, i couldn't possibly comment on the sellers identity at this point  Just borrowed some measuring gauges and you're dead right, 12mm 1.25 pitch nuts required. Wonder if anywhere will have them thats open on Sundays.
  20. Hi All Just got hold of a 2nd hand set of Koni TA's, been attempting to fit them and have run into issues at the first hurdle. While trying to fit the rears i found that the standard suspension nuts and washers/covers have a smaller diameter to the ones needed for the Koni's. I’ve attached a diagram of the parts, listed on the left side Are Koni kits meant to include their own parts ? Do I do away with any of those while fitting ? In high-insight i should have checked before i opened the tool box, any help would be most appreciated

    Which Wheels ?

Ever considered time share? Your C's twin needs some new wheels :D Got to say those Oettinger's do look nice.
  24. M reg here, delivery date 02/01/95 to the Farnham dealer. Have to admit have never really looked too closely at the early life on my C, but interestingly its 1st service was done by VW in Rintein (Germany) Hopefully it managed to see any Autobahn while it was there.
  25. Glad its not just me having issue with the ABS ECU, i forget the exact message but something like inv.msg## (## some hex address). ABS cycles through its clicks and light on and off.
