  1. I'm not exactly sure which Tom is referring too, but i fitted Passat B5 288 calipers to mine using standard Rado VR6 hoses. Initially i was quite confused as to what hose to use as fitment on the caliper looked almost identical to that of the Golf. After trying various hoses i found that the late Golf banjo fitments didn’t seal correctly, but by chance discovered the Rado hoses fitted fine.
  2. All down to personal taste, I love the sound it makes, If you've got a stainless exhaust it can cause a little more resonance. Try running a short piece of pipe up to the back of the headlight, that mutes it slightly without taking the overall great sound away.
  3. Or could possibly be in a shed in Hampshire
  4. Id either leave it off, or cut a short piece to roughly line up with the original inlet point behind the headlight.
  5. Get the VW part, much better quality. I got mine on parts club from the dealer for £118+VAT, they haven’t let me have parts club prices since.
  6. I got the same problem with running on standard wheels, and have had the tracking done too many times to mention. I can usually hear a little rubbing at low speeds when turning at full lock. The only possible cause I have been able to think of is misaligned track arms, if memory serves one of the arms is meant to be set to an exact length, with adjustments made only to the other side. Having had the tracking done so many times, in so many places there
  7. I believe the details you are looking for can be found here
  8. Sorry to hear about this, I've found of late people seem to care less and less about other peoples cars, as I know to my own expense. The main insurance preferred bodyshop around this part of the world is BP Rolls, their prices are fairly reasonable and from what I've heard do rather impressive work. If you're looking for a more lost cost option I've got another couple of contacts at the VW bodyshop in Andover, top blokes and good value too.
  9. Hijacking the thread, can you obtain the same kits for VR6 injectors?
  10. Hi Steve, nope called several dealers hoping someone might have the answer. They have all said that the code is missing a letter, im not quite sure how they know that. I've searched for the code in ETKA which finds it as a "Hub Cap / Wheel Cap" but no further details. I'm presuming it
  11. Im looking to track down a couple of sets of VW center caps, none of the dealers i've spoken with seem to be able to help with the part numbers i've got. The numbers listed on the caps i've got are VW - 1H9071213
  12. There are quite a few listed on ebay, have a look here
  13. Whoever you choose to replace the clutch get them to check the contact between the new release bearing and the finger plate. I had to have mine replaced under warranty due to release bearing issues. Vince @ Stealth couldn't pinpoint the exact cause, but noticed that only 6 fingers where making proper contact with the bearing which he felt could cause the bearing to work unevenly, same thing was seen on two different LUK kits. He came up with an ingenious quick fix and milled down the face of the finger plate enabling the bearing to sit neatly against it, been great ever since.
  14. Cant say for definite, but im pretty sure you can view the values in the demo version of VAGCOM. You need to access the engine section, then go to measuring blocks, use the "up, down" buttons to select group 6, this displays all the learnt and live O2 values from the Lambda.
  15. I've had the same problem for the last few months, mine has really struggled to achieve 25mpg, on long runs that can creep up slowly. Before i used to average 30+mpg with ease, and quite quickly from setting off. I've recently bought a brand new MAF which helped slightly, but hasn't returned the car back to its forma eco running. I've spent ages looking at the settings in VAGCOM and performed numerous resets. I've noticed two slight oddities with the Lambda, one fault about "exceeding adaptation limit" was logged, then on another occasion i noticed the O2 values at idle were really erratic fluctuated from 0.85 - 1.2XX. After performing another reset and replacing the MAF the Lambda now seems to behaving its self reporting 0.95 - 1.08 at idle, but yet the poor fuel economy persists. I have tried driving around with the Lambda unplugged and the car behaved about the same the fuel wise, prehaps a smidge worse, but when reving the car felt so smooth. Another observation with the fuel economy is it struggles to reach a high mpg no matter how carefully you drive it, but when having some fun with the right foot the MPG drops really quickly. Now before all my issues it used to be the opposite really quick to reach a good MPG, and quite slow to drop when booting it. So as not to rely on the MFA i used my old manual rule of thumb by looking at the needle, i used to be able to get about 200 miles per half tank, now that's down to around 170-180. I should also note the temperature sensors have been replaced and the ECU water temp is about the same as the gauge, bar 1-3 degrees. Can anyone offer any more incite before i go wasting money on replacing more parts. Could this all simply be Lambda related?
  16. Damn i knew i should have noted the part number down when i fitted yours Goldie :) I don't think VW's smartest individuals were on the job when they produced the plastic rocker, as the part number is stamped right in the middle under the inlet manifold. Clearly a stupid place for helping fellow owners
  17. My experience so far with the Powerflex rack bush has been great, feels much more solid. I cant make a direct comparison between poly and OE as my old OE one was warn out, but i can't detect any hardness as a result of installing it. I believe the usual complaints will poly bushes come as a result of replacing the wishbone ones.
  18. You could try investing in some buffing wheel attachments for a drill, and try polishing up you old manifold before putting it back in. You be surprised what a few hours work can do.
  19. The difference between them is where the cut out is for one of the steering rack pipes. I ordered mine from Awesome GTi who advised i should get both as its never clear which one you will need. As it happened I used the 233 item for my late VR and returned the other for a refund.
  20. Get the Mk3 VR6 one, you'll need to get the adaptor hose to join the BMC to the MAF. Stealth includes this hose in the kit.
  21. Sadly i didn't get any print outs, and i forgot to ask at the time. I don't think it was setup using stock VW settings, as i recall Vince saying that my tyres would wear a little quicker with the setup used.
  22. I'm in need of having my wheel alignment done again after renewing the front top mountings. Does anyone know what settings Stealth racing currently use on Rado VR's? I had the alignment done by Vince before Christmas and it was the best its every been, and id like to get a local place to try and replicate as a stop gap before I can get back up to Stealth.
  23. Hi Steve cant comment on the differences personally as ive got a late stubby one. Worth noting that you will need to change at least the metal hard line, and possibly the flexi to the clutch if you swap. VW do not sell a pre-made pipe for the late cylinder, the pipe listed in ETKA is designed for the larger cylinder only. Cheers Ross
  24. Heres the numbers of a stock item. (Bosch symbol) 485, and then on a seperate line 0 280 150 953. I feel a group buy coming on :)
  25. Looking for some help in identifying the possible cause of a noise that has recently developed in the gearbox area after a gearbox rebuild. A week after the rebuild I noticed bearing chatter/squeal coming from the gearbox side of the engine which could be heard quite clearly when idling as well as driving. Over the last week the noise has reduced in volume but is still apparent. The strange thing is when the clutch is depressed the noise disappears, shortly after releasing it returns. The clutch was replaced at the same time as the rebuild. I appreciate it hard to diagnose odd noises without hearing it in person, but any ideas as to what could be causing this noise? Added a Sound Clip in the hope that might help. Its quite a high toned sound thats most noticable at a coupe of points.
