Thanks for the input chaps. As you've pointed out finding a similar spec/condition manual is bloody hard. Someone offered me £5500 for it recently but I dont really know what its worth so declined. Even finding a c with aircon and low mileage is hard enough.
-
OK i took it for a drive just now, ran beautifully, came back, popped the bonnet open, cleanned all the connectors I could see (could actullay get that big beefy one off) and then fiddled with the connectors and wiring to try and get it to cut out. I'm glad it didnt but concerned that I havent found the fault, especially with all the fault codes listed earlier. I'll reset the codes and have another try later as its too bloody cold now. Anything else worth looking for?

Yep, rather than sidetrack this thread I've put another one regarding what to do re selling & buying another in the General Car Chat section.
-
Actually I've only had it for about 8 months so maybe there is the option to sell and buy a manual. Dont know really...
-
Bit of a problem here - my C is a VR, cream leather, aircon, v low mileage (just done 50k on Friday!) only 2 previous owners, BUT its AUTO and I want to convert to manual. In fact that is the ONLY thing I dont like about it. Problem is twofold - time (got a family) and cash (we need to spend a bit on the house) Now i'm thinking this: 1. Shall I sell the c so someone else can enjoy it and buy another manual 2. Shall I hold on till I've got enough moola and time to do it/get it done The other thing is it will probably be quite hard to find another c with same sort of spec. Help!!

PMd Storm and he's not too far from me. He gave me a further idea of the project which seems more complex than I initially anticipated. Time is a major issue for me especially with two kids, so I may just have to use the Auto til I sell the car - dont really want to as its got beige leather, aircon and only 50k plus fsh - ie everything i want apart from the bloody auto box! And only 2 owners before me. Bit of a tricky one i guess - should i sell and buy a manual or hold on and do the conversion in a few years? Ideas welcomed.

Mmm, so that on its own pushes me to the budget limit. Unless there is a low mileage box that someone knows about that doesnt need a rebuild. Is it only the VR box that is best suited or are there any others that will match, like a valver or G60?
-
Okay, looks like some trips to the scrappy nless someone knows of any good bashed (??) Cs. Budget is critical for me at present, so my £500 is really top end. How much for a box rebuild anyway?
-
Oh dear. Should be fined for doing something like that to a C.
-
Well chaps? What else would fit and what would be needed? My thoughts are rather than doing a major conversion to a standard VR box why not put in a better performance item, unless the standard box is fantastically great. Cash is the other issue - just been told by "she who must be obeyed" that we need some money for the house so i will be on a tight budget - like about £4-500 all in. A mate of a mate says he will take about £250 to help me dismantle and reinstall if it can be done in about 2 days. With that in mind, I can afford £250 for all the required hardware.

Yep, I've just ordered those handles and the guy is very helpful, great to deal with. First thought they were chrome coated plastic but they are apparently metal (steel probably) Will let you know how they look when they arrive. Door lock pins - I got a set also from Ebay, which were plastic, but chromed and dont look too bad - they're quite widely available for about a fiver. They're still in their box as I alos got some alloy ones which I prefer (fitted to the car at the mo) but the the plastic lock surround now looks really crap. Will try and get some alloy ones machined in the summer to match. BTW I've got a beige leather interior.

Will give it a go this weekend. I'll take off as many connectors as poss and clean them up and see what happens. Will hopefully have something good to report back. BTW, i think the red text and underlining (which links to a definition) is quite a good thing, especially for noobs, to understand some of the technical chit chat.

Yep, agreed with Kev - a bit too James Bond for me tho'.

Absolutely crapped myself on the roundabout as it just died and took a while to start. Plus coming down the motorway the revs kept fluttering between about 3kk and 2.5k as the engine tried to trip out. I was a bit nervous about taking my foot off the gas coming to a roundabout but surprisingly got back ok. VAG COM codes as below: 00518 - Throttle Position Sensor (G69) 16-10 - Signal Outside Specifications - Intermittent 00638 - Engine/Transmission Electrical Connection 2 03-10 - No Signal - Intermittent 00300 - Transmission Fluid Temp. Sensor (G93) 34-10 - No Elaboration Available - Intermittent TPS has recently been replaced (Mr Haywire thanks). Any input would be appreciated. TIA guys. Electrical problems are the worst for me as I dont have much of a clue about them.

OK, checkked the relays under the dash, all appeared slightly warm (ie functioning) but it cut out again as I pulled in to the company car park. There was a slightly rumbly area I drove over after which it cut out which again suggested a loose connection somewhere - problem is where the hell is it and how best to try an locate it? This is getting bloody frustrating and makes me wonder about keeping the car

Thinking of the auto to manual conversion on my C, but seeing so many boxes available for sale makes me wonder whether its best to get the normal VR box or the Seat Leon or other available. What else would be suitable and what would be a list of required items? Thanks H

Henny , what you doing with the MASItalys then?

Cheers Davestorm, although i dont want to remind myself too much! Having said that I do envy you twentysomethings (not you Davestorm!) with your Cs. I could only dream about them at that time.... -
Its going in for an inspection tomorrow so I'll know either way tomorrow evening. Fingers crossed for the bill...

Thank God I'm not the only old git here - 34 tomorrow as my son loves to remind me. Cars - well, here we go: Subaru Justy (working abroad), Honda Civic 5dr, Opel Corsa 1.4 16V (quick little motor), BMW E36, Vectra GSi and now my dream (and part bloody nightmare) 94 VR auto, may soon be manual! -
Shame - i was hoping we could finally put this bloody ISV issue to bed. If there are any other suggestions or options I hope you, Vince or anyone else lets us know.
-
BTW, apart from the fuse and relay panel on the RHS of the dash, is there anywhere else he relays may be or is that it? How can I check the operation of the relays?
-
OK, should I just get the alignment done and adjusted as needed? BTW, can a mod please move this to drivetrain (dont know how i posted it in Suppliers)
-
Just to change direction somewhat, what is the feasibility of adopting this system and doing away with the ISV etc on the VR? May solve some running problems.
