  1. I've notices the pipes from the PAS reservoir running to the side of the battery press the wires to one of the sensors on the radiator - seems odd to me. I've tried moving the pipes away but there's no space to shift them away. Any suggestions?

    VR not starting

    This bu***r has reared its ugly head again - battery is fully charged (been out of the car for about 1 week), engine turns over nicely, there's fuel at the fuel rail just no ignition. It turns over nicely. I've cleaned the contacts on that large connector (which were clean anyway), although the earthing strap below the battery has a fair amount of copper salt on it (green). I wouldnt have thought this would afftect it tho? I'll take it off ad give it a clean with a wire brush tomorrow. Oh, and the clocks are out for a new led setup - is there an interlock with the connector to the back of the clocks? 95 VR btw.

    VAG error codes

    Is there a way to check the relay - I'll take the plastic cover off and see if I can clean the contacts but apart from that is there any direct test method?

    VAG error codes

    Yes I cleared the codes and took it for a drive before getting these again. The TPS has been repleced and the measuring blocks show it to work OK so i dont think it is at fault. Which number is the ecu relay?

    The most recent codes form a scan give the following ( few others but I am checking them out), which I dont really know what to check: 00518 - Throttle Position Sensor (G69) 16-10 - Signal Outside Specifications - Intermittent 00533 - Idle Speed Regulation 10-10 - Adaptation Limit Not Reached - Intermittent 00638 - Engine/Transmission Electrical Connection 2 03-10 - No Signal - Intermittent I'm surprised by 00518 as the measurement through VAGCOM seems to be okay on the measuring blocks - I get 13.7 deg and 93 degs on full throttle. 00533 - I've just cleaned out the ISV and TB so hopefully this will now be okay. The real bummer is 00638 - no idea what to look for and where. Oh and I've got an auto at the moment. TIA
  11. Sounds a bit drastic - obviously there is no likelihood of this under normal conditions or you wouldnt have replaced it with a pipe i presume? In fact VW would have had it from the outset if this were a possible major risk factor.
  12. Very nice indeed. If I may make a few suggestions it might look even better with clear side repeaters and FK rear lights. Otherwise truly excellent. Any pics of the cabin?

    MISTY WHITE HAZE!!

    I would polish it first to even out the paint and then use a wax to seal it - remember, polish and wax are two different things and do different jobs. Wipe on wipe off, as says says Mr Miyagi.

    Strong double sided tape

    Louie Lungbubble, it may but the only issue there is how to place the air intake without squeezing all the mastic out. Oichans method is by far teh best IMHO. Re the door sills, I now that some people have used some double-sided, in fact they came with some of the same stuff, only they had already lost their adhesion (used sills btw, not new).

  17. I've got some chrome door sills to fit but cant seem to find any strongly adhesive double-side tape anywhere. B&Q have only got the Sticky Fixers type which wont take too much load. Any ideas? Also, for the vent air intake where can you get the adhesive cushion sheet (see Oichans website for details)? B&Q dont have anything similar either. Cheers all.
  18. Agreed, those seats are superb. Look at some of the detailing too - door sils and it seems he's done something to the door cards too.

    Rear Lights

    Just swopped my rear lights with a tinted set and both have one of the rear passenger light holes blanked off (driving lights i think)- any reason and can you just cut through the blank and put a bulb in the holder? And does the light have the necessary reflective face under the lens?

    Boot won't stay open

    Replace them both as even if one were to have been okayish it will have been taking more than half the load and would likely fail some time in the future. May be worth getting some nice chrome ones - check on ebay, saw some recently for about £15 a pair.

    Climate Control

    Yep, I was looking at that too, but the tricky electrics and wire splicing put me off somewhat. Its certainly no plug-and-play so if you've got b##ls the size of footballs then maybe its worth having a go.
  24. OK, i'm just going to use a piece of hosing I have left from a coolant system as a joining piece and see how that goes - after giving it a good clean of course! what exactly does this valve do anyway?
  25. Just had a look on ebay and there are several coolers there, some mocal and prices look attarctive. What size of cooler is requred (rows, 13 or more?) I've got aircon which means there's even LESS space by the radiator to mount another heat exchanger. Any advice and instllation appreciated. TBH, why would it be any more than removing the metal block on the side of the engine block and replacing it with a nice HX with appropriate valving? TIA
