strange. the only 993 i've been in looked and felt positively 80's, i thought it was bloody awful! and it was slower than my corrado. i wa always a huge fan of porsches, but that's the first and only one I've been in and i was massively dissapointed. the dash is certainly an aquired taste as its essentially the same design since the 60/70's but with minor differences, but as for performance i reckon its all down to the lack of fuss or drama that the 993 gives that makes it seem slower than what it actually is

up til recently i used mine as a daily driver and only had one breakdown (fuel pump) and about 5 unscheduelled repairs(thermostat,hose,cv-joint,sensors and fuses) over 4 years of driving almost daily and taking the miles up from 38k to 74k......ive also went thru 1 set of tyres and 2 sets of brake pads in that time and my economy has been approx 21-23mpg round town(decent imo for a near 3L motor),if you get a good one you just need to change the oil and filter every 6motnh 5k miles with a service once every year.............ive only stopped using mine of late due to having a shiny 993 C4 that ive recently bought and the new car factor hasn't worn off yet, otherwise it would still be in daily use now,but once the weather gets savage i'll be back into the Corrado

wheels needing a refurb are what i'd class as fair wear n tear so to speak, tyres are a consumable and don't really come into the equation as a sign of a bad car.......just bad on the owner for mixing them, bodywork by the sounds of it is just minor cosmetics,as long as its not ding'd and rusty then just need to save up for a blowover/respray what is worrying is......".ABS light disconnected about 2 years ago"!!!!...........that means that its not went thru a proper MOT test......so what else has been missed!!.........could be something to do with the rear disc problem too timing chains are meant to be a lifetime thing tho but others do advise changing it,there isn't a set interval that VW recommends to do it,so i wouldn't make too big an issue about it unless they are noisy -
£350-ish with Admiral all mods declared NCB protected and 1 claim in 2002,car is garaged tho
-
look like der AbT's...........aftermarket wheels at any rate

When I get a VR6 - If I had 1k to mod - where to start

suspension especially if its still on stilts standard ride height -
to be fair to the bodyshop manager, although it must annoy the p1$$ out of you all the excuses etc,as others have said the insurance work takes priority even if you are paying full whack and were in the Q first, afterall these bodyshops go out of their way to keep the Insurance ppl happy to ensure they always get approved status........it sucks but at the end of the day supposing yer paintjob comes out at £1k.........the insurance companies will be paying the bodyshop more than that over the course of their contract,so all he's doing is protecting his work current and future.......it sucks but thats the nature of the beast so to speak

£1200????!!!!!............you were robbed!!............na only joking, sounds decent enough..........i take it the handbrake works?...  .sorry couldnt resist
-
heathen!!!....next you'll be saying the mystic blue Storms are better than the classic green ones  :D :D :D :D :D

have mainly been using my 993 in the past 6 weeks or so and although my Corrado is sitting lanquishing in my garage doing sweet FA just one wee drive in it makes me still NOT have any intention of selling it
-
it'll all be down to the loading on them as opposed to the insurance group.........i remember a few years back getting a quote on a 924 that was half the price of a quote i got for a renault 5 turbo even tho the 924 was 5 or 6 groups higher
-
hope you've junked the towbar tho :D

....but he's making sure he doesn't but one then worry about the fuel...he's making sure he can afford to run it before buying it.... understand wanting to make sure you can afford it etc,but if he's getting 65-70 miles from a tank just now........which equates to 26-ish mpg(say at 83.9 per litre) assuming this is round town too btw, then if he's finding that savage then perhaps he's better looking for a diesel car........FWIW my first "performance" car was a 84B XR3i which returned 26mpg round town.......IMHO if performance and economy are what you're after then best going the oil burner route.....not thinking about a near 3L V6 coupe
-
maybe missing the point but............why buy and C VR and worry about the mpg.......its not an economy model its a performance coupe afterall
