  1. I agree, and sometimes better the devil you know too.
  2. I have been perfectly happy using mine daily, rides really well on koni adjustables and h&r springs. Insurance is no bother as got a traders policy and fuel costs are not too bad as my Vr is healthy and does 30 mpg, the T5 is no better on fuel
  3. I'll have you know that on the logbook mine is a car, therefore it must be if the DVLA say so.
  4. It is true, sometimes having a big willy is not useable every day, so big up the small willies (so to speak). Mods please delete if needs be ;)
  5. If £5k was the budget, it would have to be a diesel Alfa (probably a 156 2.4 20v or 1.9 GT), or maybe a VW T5, though T5's will be expensive at some point I guarantee you (I know - one brand new 2.5 tdi engine just gone in). So having spent a fortune on the T5 and the 159, what is the most reliable? Neither! The Corrado VR is having spent next to nothing on it all year and it being there when everthing else was broken (159 was bought to replace a 156 with a blown engine (2.4 JTD - very unusual as they are normally bullet proof), and the T5 was off road for 6 months. So having used the Corrado as a daily for 6 months, no problem at all really, I don't have kids so no rear doors needed. I am now alternating between the T5 and Corrado as both do about 30mpg.
  6. Awesome work, when you have done I have 3 Veedubs that need similar work, give me a shout when you want the first sent to you ;-)
  7. Back on topic, Paul I hope you can find a way to keep it, shame if you have to sell it, but if you do then £3k seems to be the figure.
  8. I think it is possibly a wiring or sensor issue, I had an exaggerated problem with my g60 whereby it would read 150 deg c, then when I turned the manual fan switch off it would drop down to just over 100. So best bet is get some new sensors, ie oil temp sender and fan switch.
  9. I saw a Mk2 Gti on the road for the first time in a while tonight, bloody 20vt job, still managed to keep up with him though in the Corrado. He was being a bit of dick though revving his engine stationary and boucing it off the limiter. So I did not raise to the bait and went in another direction before I got dragged into showing him the VR legs and then getting banned for speeding. I am getting sensible in my old age!
  10. I would not use Pistonheads as the criteria, a year ago you could advertise for free, when I last looked you could not, they were all premium adverts. EBay is running at similar levels as before.
  11. I like the fact that my VR is worth about a grand, but sounds about 50 grand.
  12. When I first had a rado about 7 years ago they were a rare sight, now mega rare. Did see one the other day on the way to work though, I nice ice violet in Wall Heath (west Midlands). Was quite shocked about that. Mine will be an irregular driver very soon though, the T5 is getting a new engine, and to be honest, for general driving I prefer the driving position as I can see more of what is going on. Also I am less likely to hoon about in the T5
  13. I never seen a Mk2 in that sort of mess. Glad you are here to tell the story. So easy to say smack the fox, but how many people duck when a bird flies out of a hedge. I know I do and it is involuntary reaction. That micro second is hard to plan for and predict.
  14. Be good to see it back on the road and looking good. Happy to help.
  15. A couple of years ago I would have bought this to sell on, I would have got rid of those gash wheels though
  16. Your mirrors are in the post, you should have a pm with the postage costs
  17. I don't totally agree here, if he converts it, it will be a 16v with a VR conversion, ie worth less. Fuel consumption - not much worse than a 2.0l 16v, mine does about 28 mpg (exactly the same as my Cabby K-jet 8v), not very quick low down is true, but also makes for a docile drive if you want it, if you want to go quick then give it some revs. Wear out easily? Not any worse than 8vs and 16vs, well looked after VRs last just as long as any of the other engines.
  18. Haha don't worry, you are probably normally lucky in general seeing you own the best coloured Corrado they made. I had one and then sold it, still, Moonlight Blue is not so bad!
  19. ....and I have a passenger one in bordeaux with no glass lurking in my garage that you can have, just cover the postage and it is yours.
  20. Check the first reply to the thread, this is where I posted and not by PM. Stop throwing your rattle out of your pram please, I was clearly first.
  21. Sorry easypops, I was there first and that is in accordance to the old forum rules.
  22. As long as there are no broken clips and the lighting works, I will take the heater controls please. Edit: let me know on a price for the steering cowling surround and the black plastic insert that sits in the dash as you look at the instrument binacle.
