You would be best giving JMR a ring, John will give you some good advice on it. He will be the man to do it if you choose to proceed
-
Yeah, once you have a weight attached to it, it will all balance out and it won't move. The twisty knobs will just adjust the width by the looks of it.

Well I had a Mk2 Golf gti 8v when I was young (still got but now with G60 11 years later), that was light enough to get away with 112bhp. I suppose it depends what you want, I guess if you are desperate for a rado then in some cases 8v would be your only option. However this thread is about best engine and in my opinion I humbley think the 2.0l 8v engine is the worst having driven a mk3 golf with one (I know it is slightly heavier)
-
No not really, that engine should never have been put in a performance coupe. I can see you had one, bet you would not return though
-
I have owned them all, 1.8 16v, 2.0l 16v, G60 and VR6 (yes I know I have missed 2.0l 8v but I don't count them ;-)) The only one I found disappointing was the 2.0l 16v. I rebuilt a 1.8 16v and I don't know what I did to it but it was as quick as a mates Mk3 Vr and put out 163 bhp on the rollers! I loved my G60 Corrado but I think that engine is a little better suited to a Mk2 with a rod change box (like the one I have!). The overall winner is the VR though, it makes a grown up noise, the interiors are better than G60's with it being the later spec and the engine is sublime. Mine has 201 bhp and it never seems like that is too much as the chassis is awesome. Power delivery is docile at lower revs and comes to life with revs.
-
....and there is the issue of servicing friends and family cars, this also takes up some time. Gave the rado some rear brake love today before its MOT, then serviced my mates Leon.
-
Very good but you need to check your water level! Seem to average about 28 mpg mixed driving, about 32 on a run at about 80. Just for reference the Alfa does about 36 mpg distance and that's a diesel, so really the Vr is pretty good.
-
In that case the Vr would pull the g60s pants down in standard for and give it a good spanking.
-
Well ultimately the G60 is more tuneable than the VR6 (unless you slap a supercharger on it), so theoretically the G would be a better competition car. But that is not the be all and end all.

Must be the one of the lowest mileage corrado's???

Does someone have to be a real enthusiast to sell something? I sell steel but I could not care less. I enjoyed selling Corrados as I do love them. In fact the one I have now was supposed to be sold but no one even came to look at it with the price at rock bottom. Glad we kept it though as it is the only reliable car we have had this year and that includes a 4 year old Alfa with 40k on the clock. The truth is that Tcs is a trader who has found his niche, a lot of what he sells seems reasonable prices. With regards to profit I would have thought he needs a gross profit of about 30k a year to make it worthwhile and I bet most of his cars give him back a few hundred quid. As I said above, I have bought off him and it was fine. Come on guys let's have a bit more open mindedness -

So shame on me then? What are peoples problems with people doing business with Corrados? I have bought and sold a few in ny time and I was able to offer what people wanted. So what is the problem with that? -

Not sure what your point is? People are allowed to run a business and if that means advertising that they buy cars that are then sold, what is the problem with that? These comments really reek of jealously. For the record I bought a g60 of tcs that had a hole in the floor but that was alright as it had no mot, he told me about it and that engine now resides in my mk2 with the recaros so I am happy, plus the price was good. Anyway, how about we set up http://www.webuyanycorrado.com, then we can do what tcs do. -
Not sure at the minute, got a few things one that weekend.

Certainly horses for courses, I have had both, my Corrado was a switchable 150/230 map and it certainly was no slouch. However the VR6 engine, even in standard form, is no slouch either and shift when you need them too. If it is all about the go then yes a 1.8T will give more power than a n/a VR. But there is something you miss when you go back to 4 pots, refinement being one of them and noise is another. If you were just going to 230 bhp I would not bother. If you do want to then my advise is leave your VR alone and go and get a 2l 8v and 16v and build it up from scratch.

Not necessarily the vac hoses but the quickest and cheapest to try first. You can get the pipe and cut to length yourself and the one to the ecu is the only one that has to be an exact length. Next thing to check is condition of lambda sensor. Disconnect the plug checking condition of wiring you can see. If it runs better disconnected you need a new lambda sensor. If not come back, just need to think of the next check point. ---------- Post added at 01:49 PM ---------- Previous post was at 01:46 PM ---------- Put a new blue water temp sensor on it, with it being only about 10 quid it is worth doing anyway. Could be why cold start is so pants.

Yeah that is the diagram, those arrows indeed point to what I am talking about. Because the airbox is also connected to the breather, years of oil mist can gunk up especially if the air filter is old and decayed and letting some dust through. Give it a good clean with some carb cleaner of brake cleaner and pop it back together. Not sure what you mean by throttle valve unless you mean throttle body but don't worry about that at the moment as I am not suggesting you adjust anything just yet.
-
First thing I would do is inspect the air flap in the fuel regulator that sits on top of the airbox. Could be that it is gunked up to the point where it is not shutting properly at idle and letting too much air in. Give it a good wipe down with a cloth and see if that improves things.
-
Check your vac hoses. The one to really take a close look at is the one that runs from the back of the throttle body to the ECU. The symptoms you suggest could be that this has come off either end, but best thing to do is remove it from the car, check for splits and whilst you are at it measure that it's exactly 1m long.
-
Law of supply and demand. As long as there are idiots out there that will pay the prices, these things are going to cost. If they drop in price then they will go for what people are happy to pay. Look at Mk2 Golfs, G60 wings and pop out windows, the price of that stuff is insane, but people will still buy that stuff and so the prices continue to rise.

The words 'high class' next to 'brothel' must be an oxymoron. Back on topic, only ever seen one in the flesh so I reserve judgement.
-
What is the fuel pressure switch? The fuel pressure is regulated by the pressure regulator on the end of your fuel rail. You don't mean the hot fuel recirc switch do you as that is not linked to the fuel pump relay as I don't run one on my Golf conversion
-
Mine won't have a choice, both the Golfs are too rusty to use, the T5 is going to get a brand new engine but not until I can afford it, and the Alfa is mainly used by my wife. So Corrado it is for the winter
-
I can't tell you much more about it other than I bought it on eBay. It had no throttle response due to a jubilee clip blocking the full movement, all I had to do was move it on the rubber coolant pipe that runs into the throttle body. I nearly walked away from it to be honest as I did not know about the colour change until after I arrived. I had if for about 4 months and really did very little to it. Glad you are sorting it. If you ever need a dizzy I have a virtual brand new one left over from that car.

Last drive of my Corrado - not selling tho!
Rustynuts replied to jamiehamy's topic in General Car Chat
Surely classic insurance would make it affordable? -
Looks better than when I last saw it, I bought it on ebay and realised that it was not going to be for me especially as I suspected head gasket failure. So advertised it on here and the chap in Guildford bought it. I know he tried to turn it round quickly as it was up for sale quickly but for quite a while. It never ran right either with VAGCOM showing a whole host of dodgy sensors. So I cut my losses. Hope you get some enjoyment from it and here are a couple of old pics, I removed the scoop but the paint came off, better than that bloody scoop though. He put it back on I think to cover the paint marks.
