Looks like the 'rat might get saved! Opinions..
gradeAfailure replied to gradeAfailure's topic in General Car Chat
Well, the original buyer and I have struck a deal, so the original engine is staying put for the time being! Just got three weeks to do the suspension, rear beam bushes, brake lines, and source and paint a bonnet black... Cheers for all the offers of help and advice peeps, very gratefully received! :notworthy: -
Those are early... if you want a metal finish, just get some plastic primer and some chrome paint!
-
Halfords' double-sided trim tape... sticks like the proverbial merde to un blanket!

Furkz, yes, the 301s may well be up for sale - PM me or catch me on msn and we can chat... :)

Welcome to the forum! On the flipside of the valver - stick the inlet cam from the 1.8 16V (KR) engine into the 2.0 16V and you can expect to see close-as-damnit 160bhp (same as a standard G60) - my other half's C has one fitted and boy does it make a difference! No real effect on reliability or fuel economy either (unless you count driving it like a loon more cos it's faster!). Plus, you'll be able to get the late interior in a 2.0 16V which you can't in a G60... Horses for courses really - go and drive a few of each!

Actually, the KT1s are more like the Futuras in that the bolts are covered by a centre cap... Which means I don't know of a rado with these wheels...!
-
If I get them and I like them, the 301s may be up for sale... ;)
-
hell yeah...
-
Yeah, I thought they were Futuras too, but you're right about the spokes and the caps... OZ wheels are generally quite light aren't they? (calling Mr Hayward!) Just wouldn't want to ruin the handling as I know 301s are light...
-
Opinions please! Oh, and does anyone know what model OZ they are? Don't no-one go trying to sneak them from under me neither! I need a bit of good luck at the mo :(

heheh, yeah, they are a bit endangered! basically, i'm interested in what engine would make the car more desirable to buyers as i won't be keeping her (once we have the audi, 4 cars would just be silly!) - so need to know whether people would be more likely to buy it with a TDi or a VR lump in her... My view is: big cruising car needs big lazy engine = VR! -

Right guys, I need a quick show of hands - what engine would make the 'rat more desirable: a TDi or a VR? -
If it's a 4-stud, then yes, you'll need ET15

Still one of my personal favourites on here, always looks minty-fresh...! :thumbleft:

Awww, cheers guys... :) It looks like I may not be under as much pressure, so I should be able to put the car in my garage and do the bushes myself - though I'd have to get round the fact that I don't have the correct tool! Andy, if you could PM me your guy's number as it may come in handy as a backup! -

Cheers guys... I guess in times of trouble you realise how many good friends you have :) She's not getting broken though - a plan is forming! Hopefully... -

Yeah, unless I can find some people to help me do the work... I could probably source a head from a scrappy and port/polish it myself and get new valve guides pressed in, and fit new stem seals. How much work is it to swap heads over? I think the sticking point is the rear beam bushes - The Phirm said it looks different to the C and looks like at least 4-5hrs work taking the beam off and pressing new bushes in... -
Well, the 'rat went to The Phirm to have the suspension and brake lines replaced for the MOT... Got a call from them saying that the rear bushes are totally shot and will need replacing, which is looking at costing £350 (£100 for OE bushes cos you can't get polys and 5hrs labour to fit); also, most of the metal brake lines are in need of replacement, and she's chucking out loads of oil smoke on startup and overrun... I don't have the time or money at the moment to be able to get the work done or do it myself, so it looks like I have no other option but to break my first ever dub... Just gutted... :(

ah, i see - i stand corrected! that's my one thing learned for today

1) Wheels or flywheel figure? 2) The 9A's fuelling is mechanically controlled, not electronically... 3) See above...

Put her in for MOT last week, went straight through, not even any advisories... :D -
 I think I obviously have a rather... "individual" taste in wheels!
