  1. Have you taken out the plugs and looked into the cylinders with a torch to see if there are any bright spots ( valve / piston kissing ) on the top of the pistons? I think you may see that there are. :( You wont be able to see all the crown areas of the pistons though. .
  2. If you can swap out the fuel pump relay for a spare, try doing so. Fuse Relay panel position 12, bottom row, door end. That's the easy one. The second is the Hall Effect sender inside the Distributor. The visible bit of it is the connection to the electrical lead on the side of the distributor body. Spare H.E. is 052 998 065 but at about £100 ish, I think you will think twice! Whole distributor replacement from a scrapper 16v may be th eway to go. Part No. 051 805 205C . Best here to confirm when the fault occurs by pulling an ignition lead, pop a spare plug in the plug cap and crank the engine and see if its sparking. If sparking, the H.E. is working. The alternative if a replacement H.E. doesn't work and still not spark, will be the TCIH unit but these don't usually behave as you describe. Those are the typical to the symptoms you describe. .
  3. I would revisit the ABS ECU connector and see if it will clear by retreating it with contact cleaner. If it does, then use some WD40 to apply longer term sealing after using the contact cleaner. .
  4. If its still this one you have, then your lead may also cause problems. And v409 isn't good enough for a 2005 - 2008 Audi. Where abouts are you in Manc? .

    Engine cutting out?

If your VR6 was running OK before the battery came off, then you have lost the harmonisation between the throttle and the engine ECU. So the ECU has reverted to a secondary mode and doesn't quite know where idle is with the throttle. You will need VCDS diagnositcs connected to perform "Basic Settings" as detailed in Knowledge base here - VR6 ECU Setup Procedures. The drive won't be necessary as the driving already done will have done that. Just needs the engine thoroughly warmed up, say 20 minutes, then plug in and put it into Basic Settings on Goup 000 or 001 depending on ECU as indicated, blip the throttle to 2,500 - 3,000 rpm for 3 seconds and then leave to idle for 2 minutes plus. Then exit Basic Settings when the rad fan isn't running. Job done. No point as I wrote in K.B. of only doing the first half. The problem you have will be solved in the second stage of the procedure using VCDS in Basic Settings mode. This aligns the throttle. If it still gives you trouble stalling as described, then carry out the full ECU set-up procedure. .
  6. Steve was implying the Corrado Vaults upstairs. The sheet is for the Scirocco winning in 2008 so could be released under the 30 year rule. Oops, shouldn't have let you see that :norty:  Yeah, hope all went OK. .
  7. I might add while I'm wearing my blue slippers, that this a unique score sheet perculiar to the Tatton Show I think. The Standard ABVWOC sheet that many shows use is here .. ABVWOC Concours Sheet. The main difference being is that the Tatton sheet breaks down the points scoring of 20 per section into sub section scores and also allows modifications to be considered. .
  8. Blooming heck Steve, have you got a camera in my study! This a sheet completed for a concours "standard" car, ie options "a". If modified, then it uses options "b". .
  9. It uses two knock sensors as well as the lambda probe. Knock sensors for the ignition timing, Lambda for the fuelling. .
  10. VR6 ECU adjusts automatically for fuelling with 95 - 99 RON. Difference in power thoughout the rev range. Generally about a 3 - 4% power loss between 98RON and 95RON at peak revs (5,800rpm) and proportionally below that. .
  11. It may be you've turned enough and it just won't come out vertically cos its a tight fit with the key way. .
  12. Can you get your hands inside the tank? One thought is to put an oil filter rubber strap tool around the bottom half avoiding trapping the sender arm and turn anticlockwise with the tool handle inside the tank. (Don't use a filter strap type tool so don't know how big a diameter they will go to.) Normally its turn 3cm on the circumference anti-clockwise to unlock the key ways in the photo on page 1 and then lift out veritcally. No real effort at all. .
  13. We've been living on borrowed time for some time. VW's stocks have helped prolong the availability. Look at the dates on the spares you buy. Stuff is upto 8 or 10 years old. They stopped making some spares years ago!! Just bought the last two Scirocco Mk2 VW made front springs for a GTX/Scala/GT2. Sourced from VW Germany. Bought 2010. Date of manufacture 2002. .
  14. Anti static wire for the fuel filler pipe neck. There so the Corrado doesn't built up static while filling with fuel and cause an electrical arc across the vapours. Ensures fuel filling pump nozzle and Corrado stay at same electrical potential. Static electricity is generated by the moving fuel. This can build up and arc across the exiting fuel vapours as the petrol tank fills up. Rare event but it has happened. Older cars like the Mk2 Scirocco have metal tank fillers so it is taken care of by the filler neck and a bolt connection in the inner rear wing. .
  15. This a VW System and not sure about this year but usually August is a German holiday period so factories close. Therefore good time to do maintenance / upgrades / new systems. Bottom line is if you want a bargain, get yourself to a participating Inchape dealer and come out smiling! .
  16. Call 0845 126 8925 ask for Richard to book in your attendance for Thursday 16th July previewing at Smith Knight Fay (Inchcape) Stockport is what I have been given. LOL, only had the new Scirocco since Nov'09 !!. Won't be the only dealer handling this Two Scirocco R's went from that dealer??? A black and a blue Scirocco R with a serious discount attached. Dealers have passed onto the public at £23k. Both sold immediately. Traders appear to have got first dibs. .
  17. A few things... 1) There is a pressure /compensator restrictor in the rear cicuits which will restrict flow if the Corrado was jacked up. The compensator is on the passenger side on the axle beam just inside of the tfront of the rear tyre. 2) The compensator is blocked. 3) You may have collapsed internals in the rubber rear brake hoses which will can block the flow. If the Corrado wasn't jacked up at the rear, I'd look at 3) first as below. Usually for 3), using brake pedal pressure causes flow but as soon as pedal pressure is released, flow stops. The only way to check is remove the brake hose and look through it. The usual culprit is the one behind the rear brake disc on the axle. The other is the body to axle beam. If the one behind rear disc is OK, then look at this next. You may have had hot rear discs in the recent past which will be characterised by the disc areas looking cleaner and free from oily type deposits. This because the fluid gets through to apply pressure to the brake pads but subsequently cannot back flow to relieve the brake pad pressure. .

    abs

Yup, stored faults don't self clear with the exception of 00513 - Engine Speed which is cleared on engine start if the there is no fault. (00513 is surpressed with ignition on/engine not turning on later VAG cars.) .
  19. Clear one thing up for you..... plugging in the laptop will have no effect of what the ECU is doing with the preset values in Group 6. Think you've just looked too early and done things too quickly. The way the preset Lambda values behave at the end of the short drive sequence is..... You should see an initial value in the idle field after 12 minutes. (Part throttle value may have been computed as well.) The part throttle along full throttle take about 30 mins to compute. ISV adaption at 1.00 is not unusual. The duty cycle in the next field should be about 55% +/- 5%. I wouldn't do "Basic Settings" - (select B.S., rpm blip to 3,000 and idle for 2 mins) until after about 2 or 3 hours driving time. The driving time doesn't need to be continuous. Can be done over a few days. This will let the ECU settle down to more stable values. I have found if you thrash it around too much, it can induce stalling occassionally after ECU set up. Do the drive sequence again for the first 10 mins with a bit more relaxed approach, then just drive around without thrashing it but do use the revs smoothly. Try it that way. .
  20. Scrap metal value only. They were the big ones (1st model). .
  21. Its a tracker, circa 1992. I had one on the Mk2 Scirocco I have. Same battery and box. .
  22. Well done Paul. Another challenge for your skills then? Looks good already, sure it will be superb when you've finished. Oh yes, don't need a headlight loom to light up this route do we  and where its heading :D Soooooooooo, the red leads and Koni's ain't coming off after all. .

    cruise control.

Cruise Control for the Corrado wasn't offered by VW UK as an option. Parts are (were?) available for Right Hand Drive fit. If done, most likely retro'd at the dealer in the early days and by DIY more recently. Only one "official" Cruise Control System by VW fitted at the Karmann factory. Corrado Cruise Control - All years. .
