Thanks Chris and all. Yep, my life has been taken over with running this year. I'll get it back to a running / car balance soon. Got so many mixed feeling about it all at the mo but I am definitely looking forward to it. I have obviously forgotten the pain of my last long training run (23 miles pre Elsecar Megameet) but I know I'll remember it well enough at mile 20 - 22. Hopefully not much sooner but even more hopefully much later. And as the subject has come up I'll stick my begging bowl out. I am running for the charity Fight For Sight due to Pauls detached retina a few years back and other sight problems he has. http://www.fightforsight.org.uk http://www.virginmoneygiving.com/JudithHygate

'Our' guys charged me £275 last year for a new, none VW screen & fitting in my daily. Cutting out then coming back a week later to fit. We (Kip and I) have had 6 screens fitted by them in the last 5 years with 4 of those requiring bodyshop attention before fitting the new screen. Both VR 'show' cars (said to be mint, just like out the factory) needed treatment. The Nugget needed cutting and welding (the screen bonding to the A pillar is a part of the structural strength so fill bad rust holes with filler at your peril) My current daily needed some attention. I am sure my earlier daily had the original screen as it was in such a shocking state. As such, as no cowboy fitters had attacked it in the past so when the screen was cut out the metal work was perfect. It was the first of our cars that 'our' guys worked on and I sat in the waiting area for hours watching them work. They realised I had an obsessive interest in the car and called me into the workshop to see the metalwork condition. They were amazed at how good it was. I can't rememeber if Kips silver daily needed A pillar work when it needed a new screen as someone had run up and over the car while parked up on a night out. Getting the shattered screen replaced was a priority so there may not have been time to deal with any 'R' isssues. It's a pig of a job to do correctly and cowboy jobs that cut the sealant with blades causes the longer term rust issues as paint is damaged. I've seen 'our' guys break a few wires while cutting screens out. It is a long, slow, back breaking business and worth every penny to have someone else do it right. :)

Received the mirrors today. Well packaged. Many thanks.

Is that a pair of wing mirror glass for £10 or only one side? If one, which one. and pictures of the condition would help as if absolutely perfect with no deteriation I'll take them. If not 100% I might still be interested depending on actual condition.

The Official Corrado Campaign thread (where are they now)

Heaven forbid that she might not be attractive enough and of course every guy on here is an adonis. Her only problem would be not who she picks but in which order she lines you up. FFS it is nearly 2013 isn't it... or is it still 1912 in some parts of the world? edit - p.s. apologies James -
My current calendar runs out on 31st Dec 2012... but I'm not expecting the world to end, I'll just start a new one on 1st Jan. When I had a 5 year diary I didn't expect the world the end after 5 years. I think the Mayans were pretty clever to produce a calendar that went on for years and years without the assitance of the computer world we live in today. Has anyone checked the like of Outlook Express calendar or the time/date settings on their PC to see when 'we' think is the 'end'??

I know I know. There is a comedy element involved. ;) I tried to get Contis but nowhere had any so looked for any of the other top 5's in a winter tyre review from last year. Michelin Alpines were joint 4th and Kwik Fit had them at a stupidly good price (£30 cheaper than my local tyre/exhaust place that I would have liked to give the business to but for £30 x 4 I had to go with kwik fit). Kip dropped the wheels off on Tuesday then spent the evening swearing as he/we realised they needed spigot rings and different seated bolts.... Fitted them Thursday and I've held off posting pics as I wanted the VW logo stickers but they have not arrived yet. winter 195s feel great, not that I've driven it far, though a bit twitchy after the 205's that made it feel heavy but they wouldn't have got me anywhere in snow and ice.

Spent a bit of time (& money) on my 8v this year. Tidied up the paint a fair bit (BIG shout out to Lee at LA Sprayshop, Shafton, Barnsley.. top job and the Storm will be going there if/when needed no problem :) ) but more importantly I've changed the worn 205's for winter 195's. And put them on some other wheels. She is a true car of the 90's now..... but I am looking forward to getting the Westwoods refurbed and re shod for the summer.. roll on summer.

Hi. Oops.. you posted a pic of tank straps ages ago but I never replied. Are they still available and if so how much? and I could collect to save on postage as I am passing your way Sunday 16th & Thurs 20th Dec :)
-
Can't wait to pick up my lovely retro 3 spokes on Saturday (weather & well worn 205's permitting) and get the winter tyres fitted. The 205's (on an 8v) have given me some interesting moments these last few weeks.

I also have one but if I didn't I might be inclined to pay £20 for it... but not anything like £100.

Does anyone else feel like rebooting their life?

Wise words from craigowl. The western world is very materialistic and marketing/advertising reinforces the myth of what we need to make us happy. That drives us to work longer, take higher grade jobs with more responsibility so we are able to obtain more (expensive, bigger, faster, exclusive) material goods. -
ha ha.. now there's an idea. But a courier will be a bit and I'm hoping Andy will come down from £10k to make his worth while
-
Thanks anyway Abdul. Andy, I've looked up your thread and seen the wheels.... Niiiiiice ;) I'm not bothered about the tyres as I would be putting on new winter tread ones. 3 spoke = less to clean through the winter!! But currently the flippin car wont start so I don't need winter tyres..... hopefully being fixed tomorrow and then I'll see what I have left after that bill. Seen the £10,000.01 ono price but what would you really be thinking of??

Sounds good. Looking forward to hearing from you. Cheers

We have a black & decker one. yes it weighs a tonne but it is basically a battery with add ons (jump leads attached and BIG light). It has saved my life a few times (when I forget the switch the mains on for the trickle charger... done it about 5 times now!!). It was put to use last week when a neighbour asked if we had any jump leads to start a van that had sat stationary a while and it is a dam sight easier than moving cars into position and getting jump leads out. And it is currently living in my 8v as that is very intermittently playing up (though I don't actually think it is the battery at fault) Only down side is having to remember to charge it up as if it lives in the understairs cupboard or garage not plugged in then when you do need it it's no use if flat!! I would recommend for the piece of mind of having something quick and easy to hand for any winter battery issues.

Cheers Chris. I'm not sure about them being 14's.. and almost new tyres I recon you would be wanting reasonable money for the rubber though I was going to get winter tyres.. or are you saying these are a winter tyres in which case what brand etc. And lastly, Essex will be too far to travel and a courier will up the price somewhat. I like the style though!

Small claims court is very easy to do. But getting a win in your favour doesn't mean you will get paid. Just if he doesn't pay (or return the car) in the given time he gets a CCJ loaded against him = even more difficulty in getting credit/loans which is probably why he can't pay you in the first place. But if he doesn't have CCJs already and if he has any knowledge of the financial world he will do everything he can to make sure the matter is resolved before the given time. Good luck.
-
:) no problem. I didn't take any offence as I know you are as nuts too ;)
-
I put some 'old' 205's on it earlier as I needed 'new' tyres and there was tread on the 205's I didn't need for the VR. But there is no way that car will get me up icy hills round here with 205's on and having smartened up the paintwork I don't want to chance it. So winter wheels/tyres sounds quite sensible to me :)
-
As the title. I'm after a set of wheels to run in the winter on my 8v so obviously I'm not too concerned about condition so long as they are sound. I would also not want to travel too far (from S Yorks) to collect them and I don't want to pay too much. So, does anyone local have a set knocking about that they would be happy to be rid of? Thanks

nothing we didn't really know about electric cars

It's all hyperbole as in 50/60 years (in my uneducated guess) or so we are fuc&ed. The amount of world resources (coal, oil) we have consumed in the last 100 years and the speed at which that has increased in the last 30/40 years is not sustainable. And even less so when you factor in the huge new demands of emerging China & Africa. We are fuc&ed (or our offspring are) as there is no way there is energy available to continue using it at the rate we have all become accustomed to. And if the energy thing wasn't enough we have filled the seas with plastics (I don't mean visable plastic but broken down plastic particles) and littered space with metal junk. I would be happy to be 100% reassured that in 30/40 years time everything will be fine but I'm not expecting to be around much more than that and with the way things are going I'm quite happy with the thought of getting out of here! P.S. Have a happy Friday & great weekend (while you can!!!) -
Hi Lee. Welcome to the forum. Have you seen this VR in the for sale section? I think the thread has loads of information but if you wanted to chat to Kip about it he would be happy to talk, http://the-corrado.net/showthread.php?75888-Classic-Green-VR6-for-£2499-99-in-Dewsbury

I didn't drive it cause I was 1) too chicken 2) wanted to experience it really motoring but when Kip had his birthday supercar (6th gear) experiance I had a driven double lap in a Murcielago LP640. The driver (can't remember his name but a known name to those that follow UK racing) kept asking if I was OK thinking I would be a terrified wreck as he threw it round the track. Awesome stuff and I would recomend 6th gear to anyone (and booked it on Jims review of the few companies he's used). York is not as good as a bespoke track but it was still a superb day... OK hour.. it goes so quick
