Oi, that's the lounge carpet and theres no sheet down (yes I know it's all clean but still....!!)

Hi Dave. Couple of things. Tank straps... what are they like? My 8vs are shocking. If these are 'better' I would rather blast powdercoat a better set. Interior.. what colour is it and if black what are the A pillar covers like? Do they have screw holes for alarm sensors? If not and have no cuts from windscreen fitters I am interested. And minor, tiny things.. the A pillar fitting screws have small plastic covers. Do you have those, in black? Oh yeah, and the exhaust heat shields, mid box and back box sections when/if you are at a point to be taking the exhaust off to get to it all :-)

And that's why it's a good idea to clean underneath your 17+ year old car... so you can see tiny areas of damage to underseal and investigate further. :) I've done the easy to see bits but know all the brake lines, exhaust shields posts etc need looking at very closely.

No chance. KIPVW will be rolling again by then and if people think I've gone overboard with attention to detail it aint a patch on what Kip has been doing. I think he used working on my car as a guinea pig before starting on his ;) Plus I won at Tatton and was 3rd Watercooled at Harewood last year so it is someone elses turn this year :) :) And NOOOOO. I've already sold and started again and doing many jobs a second time was bad enough. Even though I learnt a lot from the first time round I'm not up for using that knowledge all over again on another one. There is plenty of minor detail here and there I know I can do here... honest!

Wow. I did it. It took 7 years and a change of car but I won the Corrado/Scirocco (coupe) class at Stanford Hall at last. Kip persuaded me to enter BVF in 2005 and from then on I've entered various concourse competitions. I've been 1st in a few others over the years and 2nd at Stanford but it's winning this one that really counts. It has been a long and slow journey and loads of people have helped me in many ways over the years so I would like to say a BIG THANK YOU to you all. I did as much of the work as I could but my knowledge and capabilities in many areas meant I had to get the cheque book out or make use of peoples goodwill. However I always wanted to know the how and why things were done though I am sure many people would have rathered I just buggered off and left them to it. So, if you are one of those people I apologise for hanging around and asking stupid questions :) Anyway. Some pics to update this thread.

We used to stay over Sat & Sunday nights but have gone for a cost cutting Sunday night only. It's a long day and past experiences has shown that driving back is a bit too far. Had to take Monday as holiday now though.

Insert the correct name here! :) LOL

I feel very inadequate when I look at Kips engine bay... but I can't get my head round removing half the contents, including the gear box, to clean and/or replace bits which is what has been going on in this one.

I am sorry to hear of the problems your wife is having. I think anyone who has been involved in a serious impact accident will agree, it takes a long long time for the body to right itself to anywhere near fixed. And unfortunately even then there will be weakness in the damaged area. I was hit from behind 20+ years ago and it doesn't take much for my left shoulder/neck to stiffen up and cause discomfort. For the first few years I would regulary put my neck 'out' and not be able to turn my head. Last time it's done that was 6 years ago (I remember as it was the first time I came up north to visit Kip :) ) but that was still 15 years after the accident and I had never had any problems before. I am sure she is getting all the help she can with getting 'fixed' and I hope things improve soon. But re being better off in a newer /safer car.. I don't agree. It doesn't matter what you get whacked in, your body still gets thrown about through some seriously bad forces. Side impact airbags etc are not nice soft things to bounce against and your body still gets thrown about in ways it is not designed for. Please send my regards.

1st pic in that last set is my favourite. I think we were all VERY glad that the thing was bolted on. (pity there was almost another 2 hours work still to go!)

Well... I was in Sheffield city centre today so the Sims waste management site wasn't too far away. I took it down there and was told that it didn't have the 'expensive' innards that are worth £30/£40 quid and was offered £5 for it. I couldn't be bothered to take it elsewhere so got the paperwork sorted (ID and proof of address). On taking the chitty to the office for payment they said 'oh, it was a aftermarket one was it?' It wasn't, it was the original 1995 one and I'm still not sure if I've been seen off but at least it is no longer cluttering up my office and talking my time and attention. Thanks Baz for the link and everyone else for their opinions.

I needed a new cat on the 8v and was told there is scrap value in the old one so make sure I kept hold of it. I've got it (cluttering up my home office) and I've tried asking numerous places to give me an idea of value as I don't want to go driving miles to only be offered £10 for it.... my time is precious to me and I'm not wasting it for a tenner... though I must have spent a few hours phoning companies and emailing with photos as requested... Is it cause I is a girl that no-one bothers to call me back or is it hard work selling a single old cat????

Do you know something I don't Vorn? He 'only' has 3 Corrados.
-
Side strips were attached Sunday evening after the car had been cleaned and the temperature was warmer than Saturday evening. (He ran out of time getting it all refitted before the lead car debute...)
-
It had to be tilted to feed the radio ariel wires in to the car. Both Cycle Race Approaching sign & radio ariel were attached by BIG magnets with the roof & magnets well cleaned before attaching.

The thread is getting well off track in places... Jamie has acknowledged he misread my statement and inferred I was expressing an opinion on how to deal with the issue and not merely commenting on the 'solution' of there being a tracking device on the van! If anyone wants to continue the discussion on WHO should or shouldn't be allowed to voice an opinion on the issue in question of this thread can they start a new one and leave this for people wanting to answer the original question itself? Thanks.
-
so you get where I was coming from now? Making no comment re the issue itself but discounting the 'if the vehicle had a tracker this whole problem is solved!!' statement. :)
-
I did think I ought to quantify where my statement was coming from but hoped people would read the comment for what it was. I said having a tracker on a van only proves that a VAN was in a certain PLACE. It in now way proves anything else. I am making no comment on what is the right or wrong way to proceed with the problem.
-
A tracker on the delivery vehicle would only prove that it was there. It wouldn't prove that a package was dumped on the drive. And even if it could that doesn't provide a signed for receipt (if a signed for receipt was a requirement of the shipping terms)

Interesting comment about Prestine sending wheels there then packaging/charging their own prices. I've had more done by Prestine recently and still don't think they are up to the quality their work was 4/5 years ago. Or maybe my expectations have increased? Have you anything to back up that statement with? Seen Prestine vans driving in / out to deliver wheels???
-
How are you doing James?
-
Oh FFS.. what is it with people in stupid big vehicles. Too much belief in driver protection safety features and too much 'I'm big and will come out OK in any bump' to really give a dam about their driving. I firmly believe that all this super safety advancement in car production has affected the quality of driving. No one seems to give a dam about hitting others as they believe they will come out unscathed. Well I hope the Range Rover driver gets a HUGE dent in their wallet re insurance costs in years to come. And, rant over. Very very sorry to hear of this (and Coolrados) though thankful that you are both OK.
-
There are plenty of threads on here showing the amount of work that is required for a Corrado to be in a seriously good condition.. and most of that work is underneath where it is more difficult to pay that much attention when viewing a car. I'm not going to comment on what is a fair price but for any Corrado to be considered 'immaculate' I would say have a very long and detailed look at what is going on underneath. Bodywork and interior condition is reasonably easy to guage.

I really hope you do go and get yourself properly checked out soon (aka NOW) The www is great for car forums but search 'burns' and I'm sure you will see every site saying see a Dr for burns to the face of ANY category. The car can wait. Fingers crossed all is OK.

These guys were being raved about a few years back. I would have liked to give them a go but you have to arrange your own courier unless within a 40 mile radius or you are happy to drive there yourself. They are Amersham way so you might be happy to drive there yourself. http://www.wheelrefurbishing.com/ I've used Prestine a few times. Courier collection & delivery and their service is very good. Had to send 2 of 6 wheels back due to some contamination on the inner rim but they collected and redid the job under their guarantee with no quibbles. http://pristinewheelrefurbishers.com/
