  1. Out of interest (and I know I'm shit and haven't replied to your PM) but have you seen the original build thread for your car? Keiron threw a lot on money at it and it had a lot of goodies on it at one point. If I remember correctly...
  2. Prefer looking at your back end... How is Mincy? Aww you're making me blush. Mincy is good, although I'm so busy with house stuff I've not had a chance to do all the things I wanted to since I got him back, like the interior clean, clean the arches and sorting the paintwork but still enjoying the drive of the 24v. Must pop down to see you soon, might drag mrbeige down as well.[/quote:3id1rpn8] That would be good :) Nearly popped into Cambs the other day, but I was tired, grumpy and needed my bed so took the direct route home. Glad you're enjoying the drive, keep falling in and out of love with mine.

  4. I'm the skinny short fella. Never gets his balls out in public. ;) Just washed the 16v as it's been raining all day and the bird crap on it was soft enough to remove. Most panels have serious damage to the lacquer from the bird shit. :( While it was all wet and the imperfections weren't noticable, I did stand back and realised how much I love that car... :luvlove:
  5. A is a plug for something that isn't actually fitted int he UK, the thing it plugs into is a blank. B is the PCV valve, loaads of threads on it, have a search. :)
  6. And then I fixed the car. Wheeeee. I have my two and don't intend to sell them TBH, I'm not sure they're worth anything. An intergalactic 16v with knackered paint, and a fairly fresh VR6 with rust spots and a paint job by Stevie Wonder?
  7. Which crank bearings did you use? I know there are some that can lead to premature engine death. Not that I'm trying to scare you. Does look a good job :)
  8. Haven't put an update on here for while. Just been driving the VR6, and allowing the 16v to collect bird poo. Recently had a remap from DG Autotech to improve the midrange, and part throttle a bit and to get a bit more from my cams. It seems better at the top end, and the improvements to the midrange mean that I can actually get a bit better fuel economy on gentle runs. Not had nearly enough opportunities to just drive the car and enjoy the changes recently. Also fitted some dubpower HT leads to replace the cracked magnecors, hoping to get rid of a bit of a misfire when cold, they look a lot better, and fit nicely. Finally fitted a newer steering wheel, courtesy of Fay, this week. It's far nicer than the old one. Also, in an unusual move for me, I cleaned the interior a bit. Really brightened it up. keep thinking about a respray, but can't justify the money, the "first" mot is not far off, and I'll need 4 tyres soon enough.
  9. That is what I mean. Doesn't matter how robust the engine is, if the timing chain goes then you have problems. The problem here has been wear to the timing chain assy. And so, despite the robustness of the engine as a whole, the weak point, in this instance, was the timing chain. But it is well documented, and with a sensible inspection regime, or replacement for piece of mind, you are cutting the risks down dramatically.
  10. Leisure batteries are no good for cranking engines over on.
  11. Battery box fixed to the spare wheel retaining bolt?
  12. Oxy torch down the middle of the bolt, fine nozzle, very steady hand. ;) Is it too late for Bill to give the deposit back?
  13. Short runner, but nothing feeding it yet?
  14. Forgot about your diff. Keep having thoughts about them, but need to save some money this year!
  15. I think we've similar feelings about the map. It's lovely and smooth and subtle, a little movement of the pedal seems to get a far greater response, and as the majority of my driving is 2-3k RPM it's ideal. I can change up sooner, and may see some benefits in terms of economy. Really felt the difference last night when it got a bit cooler, and there was noone else on the road. It's far easier to pick up and carry speed, and the tyres certainly seem to complain more about a surfeit of torque on the exits from roundabouts. :norty:
  16. Someone is trying to bend you right over. Unless they are pricing up replacing all of the pipes as well. From the GSF site. 121VG0070 FUEL FILTER-BQ CO 2.0 16v 9A Engine 91>95 8.40
  17. Pretty sure the rusty canister is the fuel filter. I think I'd change that next.
  18. Is yours poorly then? Thankfully no , this was the breaker that CazzaVR and I have been slowly dismembering. First engine removal I've seen, suprised how little cussing there was  Aaaah. Excellent! Just use a tractor, makes everything easy :)
  19. Is yours poorly then? Today I fitted some nice OEMish looking Dubpower HT leads, and got rid of the wanky Magnecors, and refitted my ECU after it went for a day out in Worcestershire. :D
  20. How does it work out what fuel it has in it?
  21. Could be a knackered fuel pump.
