  1. It's only the front chain guide that you can change with the upper cover off. The tensioner pad pivot is below the top of the lower cover. Sorry!

I had heard you liked 17 year olds stripping. What was his name?
  4. You don't do them to a torque. Tighten them till you can move the washer underneath with a screwdriver with light pressure. You'll find there is a little bit of play when cold. Have a search on here and you'll probably find better instructions!
  5. I thought all exhaust valves on the corrados were sodium filled.
  6. What bush? What 8mm dimension? Any pics?
  7. Yeah I got the same reply, saying it's the same camera just different software or something and he said he'll send me an update for it :? I guess I'll just wait and see! i got the update, its not an update, its a driver so u can use it as a webcam? and even that doesn't work? if u give me your email addy ill forward it to you. i sent a reply back saying its not good enough and he miss-sold me the wrong one, either way ill get the one i want.[/quote:1dxz2f7d] What advert did you buy it from? I can't see how it was missold? The camera might be different to the ones other people recieved but it meets the advert. At the end of the day, it was £8, from Hong Kong, I was surprised mine even turned up, let alone worked.
  8. How many of those needed a rebuild? Pretty much all of them, can't remember everything about them off the top of my head. The metal backing of the original tensioner pad has a habit of bending with time and the plastic cracking. I've seen several with the plastic wearing material snapped at one end below the rivets where they have stretched. My old oil pump also had a lot of plastic jammed in the pickup where the guides were smashed into so many pieces, I'm surprised it hadn't caused oil starvation issues. I know that a lot of cars are fine, and that people get very excited about the chains unnecessarily, but, I'm bloody glad the ones I worked on hadn't gotten any worse.

  10. Ive just ordered a VDO sender and it wont be here til mid june. :( :( Oh dear! I'd heard that they didn't know if there was any stock in Germany, but didn't think they would take that long to send through! Fuel pump turned up today. Fingers crossed the sender is as quick for you. :)

    Music thread...

Delicious cake. Bought Enemy of the World by Four Year Strong today, sounds alright so far... Hot Chip, I feel better is amazing too. Edit, here's the How to Destroy Angels video... Is quite disturbing at the end though. [youtube:mfnqbp5o]nWbfgGDl6XE[/youtube:mfnqbp5o]
  12. The tensioners are from a 12v VR6 as fitted to the mk4 golf in the states, probably the same as a Sharan or somthing. All the part no.s are on here somewhere. If you're going to wait till you are back, I've got most of the kit sat unwanted in my dungeon, if you're interested.
  13. So we should tell people to just drive them until the chain jumps, or the headlight switch causes it to catch fire??? What would you prefer, people were over cautious or people had cars written off? Noone has ever told anyone that they must do anything to thier car, but at least everyone knows the risks involved. If someone was to just spend £1000 on a timing chain swap for no good reason then they are an idiot. At the same time, if someone chooses to drive their car around above 100,000 miles without checking the tensioners, or having any idea what state their engine is in, then they are also an idiot. Mk4 tensioners are not infalible, I've had a broken tensioner bolt, snapped upper guide and the lower guide in about 30 pieces on my own car, and that's a 2001 engine with mk4 tensioners, new guides etc. Every car I've done a set of timing chains on has had a broken upper guide. Once that is broken, the chain can flap around, wear to the pad increases, and the chance of the chain jumping a tooth goes up. One of these cars with the broken upper guide had been running silently, as well as ever and had just put out over 200bhp on a rolling road.
  14. Don't rely on the engine getting noisier. The top pad can wear badly without it getting noticably noisier.
  15. The rear spoiler and lights don't work either. :(
  16. Dukest is definitely right, it fits on the slave cylinder and holds parts of the wiring loom up.
  17. Also worth looking at the front chain guide. I've seen several of these broken, but they can be replaced with just the top cover removed, if you need to keep going.
  18. You need to check them visually. Remove the rocker cover and inspect the top pad for wear. It's the top pad wearing that is the problem rather than the chains.
  19. They often pack up. I've had several second hand ones and they all fail soon enough, so next time I'm just going to bite the bullet and buy a new one.
  20. If he want's to come up to Winchester, then he can use mine. But I can't get it to Portsmouth.
  21. Yup. That's the way late cars work. If the Aux pump isn't working it could be the fuse or a faulty fan control unit. Check the fuse and check the voltage at the plug. There are some diodes in the fan control unit that seem to switch the pump on. They can become unsoldered from the PCB. If you take the unit off and it rattles, it's probably them.

    G60 low power

I've had a problem like that before. The oil pump had packed up and was providing too high an oil pressure and jacking the tappets open. Try checking the oil pressure.

  24. Always always always support the engine. You will be underneath the car. The engine will kill you if it falls onto your head. I know people who have had the 13mm bolts snap (they are in a water trap and corrode) or someone may have removed them and not refitted them in the past.
  25. Yeah. TPS were trying to get me to buy lots of stuff. On back order from Germany, so no idea when the pump will arrive though :(
