  1. Almost there buddy!!! But I've completely and utterly run out of money now! Just thinking about what I can sell to fund the tax and insurance. Your arse, to me?
  2. Got a bigger bench and bigger vice coming soon to go in the garage. :) Cheers! Looking for some heavy duty rawl plugs to bolt people stuff properly to the wall then I'll start using it properly :norty: The off road parking is great, can get both rados parked up, my housemate's prius work car next the VR, my work astra estate and still have enough room for at least 2 more cars. Need to get the floor ripped out the garage so I can park one inside though. Hopefully the floor will be a bit flatter for working on too. Nipped the rear wheel bearings up on the VR this afternoon. It had started to make a bit of noise when on the move, and they were fairly slack when I checked them  Was a little big of a struggle though, knackered after sleeping on the floor in a vets surgery in Chichester last night. Bit of a random night out.
  3. I used pink duct tape. Works well.
  4. You just need to find out what the actual oil pressure is.
  5. Knackered bottom end bearings, knackered cam bearings. Broken oil squirter, knackered oil pump, oil pump gasket/bolts gone. Could be all sorts of things.
  6. Hahahaha. I'd love a cossie. :)
  7. The light and buzzer are for the oil pressure, not the level! You should stop driving it and get the oil pressure checked ASAP!
  8. Post revival time! Just been getting into Hotrod over the last few weeks. Absolutely love some of stuff they do. Have no interest in the stupid politics or human interaction, but the bodywork, interiors and paintwork is amazing. Just caught part of it last night where the engine builder was measuring the capacity of the combustion chambers in the head. :luvlove:
  9. KFC's not particularly great - I tend to avoid all that greasy bucket stuff. Only boat you can get over here is the Steampacket. Some of the Mods are coming over for a weekend of debauchery soon and I think a car + passenger works out around £170ish but a foot passenger return is usually about £40 on its own so the car with driver could be done for around £130 or so. It all depends on time of year though. TT fortnight and the main holidays tends to see fairly hefty price hikes. I love your greasy bucket! Pretty sure we're paying £170 or £180. Think it was £200ish last time.
  10. My late passat moonroof in the valver is a lovely fit. not 100%, but I'm happy with it. The early one in the VR is a bit more shit.
  11. Ha! Just goes to show I never really read anything.
  12. I just filed flats onto a 22mm socket so I could grip it with a spanner and am quite happy with it. Got a steep drop ring spanner for the other car.
  13. Some of the 2.0 Turbo lumps went back to port injection (instead of direct injection) because of nozzle clogging issues, and this- http://www.mrctuning.com/index.php?opti ... &Itemid=18 The valves and ports never get washed with fuel and gum up with tonnes of breather oil, which reduces power. A common mod on the MK5 now is to dump the PCV to atmosphere or use a catch can - http://store.42draftdesigns.com/Mk5-FSI ... p_308.html I find the 2.0 lumps to be confusing tbh. I know the MK6 has gone back to port injection and is of a Yamaha design (IIRC) and called a 'TSI'. The older original K03 motor is the 'TFSI'. If the ED30 got the TSI head, it's definitely the engine to go for. That's really interesting. I never thought about that being an issue with direct injection.
  14. I'm close enough to cycle at the moment, but might be 20 miles from work by the end of next week. Might start to cost a little bit more then, but I'll be doing 20 miles on one of the most fun roads around here every day.
  15. I think it looks like an Astra or a Megane. IMO. Golf isn't much better for looks either TBH. New TT is far more attractive.
  16. Finally got the 16v down to the new place, washed it, and tightened the alternator belt, just fiddling around really. Need to put new disks and pads on it for the MOT. Need to get on and polish the poor thing too. Trying to get some more shelving and pigeon holes for my little dungeon too,it's a bit of a mess at the moment.

    Engine Mounts

Are you talking about the metal cup that fits from underneath? Hole in the middle?
  18. I think it is, or it replaces the cold start injector.
  19. KipVR has made some for his car. Might be worth taking a look through his members gallery.
  20. I used Confused or someone like them and got a quote of £8000 or something equally as silly. Direct line did me a good price on the Valver. HIC do annoy me a bit the way they keep pushing the price up come renewal time. The 16v costs more than the VR to insure because of this.
  21. These were schitty old FAG bearings from GSF Kev, new VAG ones are still fine... ... yeah basically, mine was fine as far as an 'MOT' check went - no detectable play until I undid the hub nut and the hub itself just wobbled about, both sides were shot to bits! If you are going to do yours again I would get 2 spare hub carriers, have them blasted like I did above, get new brearings pressed in then paint and you could also fit the tie rod flip kit while you're at it. Ah, the good old FAG, PMSL! Yeah that's a good idea with the hub carriers, exactly what i was thinking. How is the tie rod flip working? A good reduction in bump steer? I might have a pair I could give you to get blasted, painted and fitted. Could throw them in the boot for when we meet up for our little trip away.
  22. Or the gasket on the throttle cable?
  23. I had one in my old work astra. Positioned in the bottom right hand corner of the windscreen. Bluetooth connection could be flakey though.
