  1. The bottom of the wings will soon rot out due to stone damage and detritus building up, plus the side repeater will also be very exposed with no arch liner.
  2. The Shultz stoneguard is a hell of a lot better than Waxoyl. Good stuff, but I'd try to retain the archliners, stones being fired at the inner arches from the wheels will soon encourage corrosion.

  5. Had a phone call tonight from a guy who is having problems with a 1.8T converted Mk3, he can't get it to start, the problem being that the transponder in the key isn't coded to the ECU. I have got VAG COM, but only the shareware version, which I know won't do it, but can anyone explain how I would code the key to the ECU with VAG COM?
  6. Aaah. I know DanVW has a 1H block in his car, for some reason. Was there a reason for the thicker bolts, or was it because they were used in racing and they needed to be homogloborifiicatfication?
  7. It looks to me like a funny mottled dark blue in the pics, which I think is immense. I'm sure it looks great in real life though.
  8. I can try and get you a price on bearings Jim. I have a spare set of front hubs for sale if you fancy following Hasan's route....
  9. Cheers guys. Have just ordered a new fuel filter and spark plugs, intend to spend the weekend changing the fuel pump, fuel filter, plugs, and fitting a nice new FPR, fuel rail and a set of cleaned injectors. I'm also going to buy some sections of silicone hose and replace the broken pipe between the PCV valve and inlet tubing. Fed up with it leaking and causing a smell. :mad2:

    Weitec opinions

I believe Dave and Graham are selling them now and have heard pretty good reviews.
  11. Please stick to your existing thread. viewtopic.php?f=15&t=84825
  12. And grease the thread to prevent seizing?
  13. I don't think it's just them to be fair Karl, all of the popular garages have bad stories about them. Most of the time people don't seem to realise that they've been bent over royally at worst, or at best, the victim of unfortunate coincidences.
  14. Ebay username is Fircof? If so, he's on here as BigPantsBaby.
  15. You won't know if you need to do the chains & tensioners until you take it apart and inspect it, so it's worth budgeting for, even if it doesn't get done.
  16. Really? I thought it was supposed to be loaded to prevent any twisting on the bush at the end of the shock? Made my life far more awkward on the VR.
  17. Done any work on the car yet, or been otherwise engaged? :)
  18. They should be done up with weight on the wheels shouldn't they? In that case you should not be able to fit an air gun onto the bolt. They must have been done to a ridiculous torque if they have been pulled apart, unless there is an issue with the bolts themselves...

    whats this

Starts with a "W" and ends in "ank"
  20. Isn't that the point? It's not him being an idiot, he's doing his job. I'd be more upset that the rear wheel bearings weren't correctly set in the first place, and you're lucky that the inspector picked them up....
  21. Battery connections not tight enough, earths not connected securely (body and gearbox ends), alternator not connected properly, alternator knackered. Just a start.
  22. How about redrilling the Passat 5 x 112 288s if the offset is correct?
