  1. Got a blurry pic from Mr & MrsBeige's wedding. Some good rolling shots to come....
  2. There's something weird with the FPR and vaccum lines, they aren't plumbed in correctly at all....
  3. Here's the difference in the tread pattern of Rainsport 1 and 2s...
  4. Yeah, they'll keep going at the same speed. I believe the CFM that the slimline fans produce is similar or greater than normal ones on speed three. I'm going to adust mine, they don't sit close enough to the radiator, due to the way I fitted them. And as Kev has done, fit a nice ring of draught excluder to form a good seal between the radiator and the fans. I think I'm losing some efficiency due to the gap between the fans and radiator.
  5. Crazy controller sounds very good, still interested. :)
  6. Mine would do speed 3 if it ever reached that temp, and does after run fine. I've joined the 3 connections up from the original fan and connected them to the positive side of my fans, and the earth to the earth wires. The fans will turn on in the same way as the originals, except that they only physically turn at 1 speed.
  7. There's a proper tool for removing the spark plug leads.... Does your car have a coil pack? Is it arcing?

    VR6 improvement

Not always true my friend. It's all about balancing the turbo's pressure ratio with overlap quite carefully. Obviously you don't want too much exhaust reversion bouncing back into the intake strokes, but that's inevitable, but on some turbo engines a bit of overlap can actually introduce more fresh air and fuel into the cylinders as the valves overlap, which can help push the nasty exhaust fumes out. It's very much engine dependant. The SP 263s do work very well on the VRT though, as do his 268s :salute: Sorry Kev, I was assuming that we were talking Shrick 268s, with the overlap shown below. I know that some overlap can be beneficial, especially in helping the turbo spool up, plus cooling things down a little.
  9. Oh, and you can buy adjustable fan controllers which connect to the hoses.
  10. Can you not just fit the normal VR thermostat housing, this helps with pipework routing and gives you the 3 sensor locations. The fans should kick in at 95 degrees, have you checked the temperature they kick in with VAG Com? The gauge might not be accurate...

    VR6 improvement

268s have too much overlap, the standards or 263s are better. Check the FI VR6 thread as mentioned above...
  12. There's a guide in the Wiki I think, but off the top of my head, you need to drop the whol assembly down to release the filter. There's 4x 17mm nuts holding it to the underside of the car.
  13. Oilman on here sells it. Opie Oils is his company...
  14. Would be worth while if it's not been done in a while. Redline MT90 is used by a lot of people on here. I've got some cheap semi synthetic in at the moment to flush any cack out of the box.
  15. Yeah, give it a whirl. You can normally see if the slave cylinder is starting to fail as there will be a little brake fluid dripping from the bellhousing under the car.
  16. It could be that the old belt has worn and is narrower than the new one. That will make a difference to the tension. Plus the tension of the alternator belt on the 16v is based on how far you can deflect the belt rather than if you can twist it. I have a bad rattle (again) and it's the idler pulley that runs on the back of the water pump pulley that causes it. Think I'm going to try welding it up solid...
  17. The cables are attached to the gear selector with bolts, so you can slacken them and move the cables slightly. It might also be that the clutch is not disengaging completely, it could be that the slave or master cylinders playing up or the release arm bending a bit. All speculation really.
  18. :camp:  At least when it happens to me it's car related.   Mine is car park related.....
  19. It could be repaired, but I would guess the cost would be prohibitive. An old school engineering place might be able to help you. We've had complex head castings which cracked welded up before. Probably easiest to get another. :( With those bushes, I used a big pair of sockets and a vice and pushed them in. Will be lovely to take it out for it's first drive when you do finish with all the lovely new stuff. :)
  20. Good to hear. Sadly the 1144s aren't available for my 288s on the VR, but I will be getting a set for the 16v. :)
