  1. I think they might fit. Are you going to go back to 280mm calipers and carriers? I literally just binned a set of 280mm 5 stud disks that you could have tried.... :(
  2. Cheers dude. Means a lot. It's nice to get a few opinions about it. I know I need to sort out a rattle in the rear trim, and I'd like to get my hands on a Shrick at some point in the near future, just to help low down torque. Really should stop fiddling with it though....
  3. That's a bit poo. If I cocked that up I'd be a little bit annoyed, if I'd paid someone to do it I'd be pretty upset. TBH, personally I'd probably reuse that bolt unless it looked unpleasant, I think part of the issue is people going nuts when tightening fixings up.
  4. It wasn't John heading toward Scotland was it?
  5. Yup.... You could try taking the socket off the bar/extension and dropping it over the bolt, then try pushing the bar/extension as far into the 1/2" square as far as you can and see if it will undo then. Just be aware that you can damage the extension and socket. Hope that helps....
  6. :( you sound pretty gutted and I'm not surprised. What's the issue with the bonnet clearance? Is it due to the 24v manifold sitting too high?
  7. Or a 288 disk with a better offset? Or a carrier with a better offset? Some Audis used 288 disks, I wonder if the carriers they used would be better? I have a carrier for an Audi 100 on my floor, I but I think it's a similar design to the Mk3 golf carrier, and only takes a narrow unventilated disk. Sorry none of these things are useful, I'm just trying to think of a way round your issue...
  8. 3 men and all our luggage, plus tools, jacks etc. TBH, it is bloody low, probably 10-20mm lower than Dukests car for example. Cheers! He did get more enjoyment when he had to lift the shell out, cut it in half legnthways and then the rear section in half widthways to make it all fit. Looking forward to the cheque for the scrap now! Been thinking about what work I have done to the car and the new bits that were fitted. 9. Is the carrier too close to too far away from the hub? Could you either make a spacer up or machine both parts to make them fit?
  10. You are correct.... Use a vice, a selection of large sockets, a screwdriver or two, and a large collection of profanities.
  11. I'm sure someone was doing both types. G Werks had something to do with a group buy on here IIRC.
  12. When the engine is under load it makes it more difficult for the spark to jump the gap, so it could very possibly be that. Or injectors?
  13. I suppose it's a possible upgrade.... You'd only need the rotors and the pads to fit an existing bell/calliper combination.
  14. I think you might need to lower the subframe a little...
  15. Your post actually bears more than a passing resemblence to mine.
  16. The Corvette also features the VW 16v engine....
  17. That probably explains the occasionally knocking from the back end of my VR.
  18. Not me, but my sister used to live there when she was at the RAC
  19. :) Can I keep coming up with ideas on a commision basis?
  20. Totally agree. I like a good shiny badge, something that stands out from the grille.
  21. I think a half reasonable amount of oil sits in the the gearbox when you drain it, 1.5l to refil doesn't sound that far out, especially if the car was level and the oil was up to the level plug.
