Is there much benefits in getting the injectors cleaned (VR6
bruny replied to Mawrick's topic in Engine Bay
Nice and steady always gets the best results, carry on the good work, will keep an eye on the thread, looks promising :notworthy: -
May have some braided hoses for the front, bought from a guy at one of the shows and it turns out they dont fit the standard setup, will dig them out and post a photo if you like, got to be worth a try :D

Its cheaper over here, had mine tested and new top seals, only £25. A full service and clean was going to be about £65. Had them done at Autotronics at Laughton. I think its worth it for peace of mind, but for £200 I would think twice if it was running ok before the strip down. How is it going by the way ? and when do you think you'll be on the road ? -
Impressive stuff going on here KipVR, I am in awe of the craftsmanship involved, great thread and great results, carry on the good work :notworthy: :notworthy:

I had a nightmare of a time having mine rebuilt by a so called 'specialist'. It will have cost somewhere in the region of 2500, way more if you count extra bits. If you have the skill to do the work yourself you could save maybe 800 or so. but it would be so much easier buying a Vege rebuild, with warranty. I was in contact with them when it looked like my engine was f+++++d [dont ask :bad-words: ]and they seemed very helpful and efficient. The dealer prices didnt seem to be much more than OE, although I was probably ripped off by my rebuilder, either way I do not recommend Specialised Automotives in Worksop

Good work as always kip, some serious competition going on between you a Judith to see who has the best undercarriage, I must say I prefer Judiths bottom to yours mate :norty: you're both welcome to come and have another rub with a damp cloth when you feel the need  I trust batchglow have done a good job with your sump! Need to get mine cleaned up for the BVF, not long now
-
Hi Pete-chav, Nice motor, Step or two up from the Saxo  I thought you had said you are not going to modify your daily driver, you need a project rado to play with :norty: Still hope to catch up with you at the BVF

If you have a whole bank out 1/3/5 or 2/ 4 /6 I think it has to be a timing issue. I had my engine rebuilt by a 'specialist' and the result was running very unevenly, he assured me that the timing was spot on but having checked plugs, leads, injectors etc, finally got round to doing a compression check which revealed all three front cylinders were reading 60 psi down at 120. Top off again to find the w++ker had managed to rebuild it with the front cam at least a tooth out :bad-words:

It is a pig of a job to do but so nice to have it completed, heat where you direct it and a clear screen makes driving in the rain a pleasure  I still suspect it was a dodgy expansion bottle top which allowed pressure to build in the cooling system that blew my matrix. But flaps had broken so had to be stripped anyway. Knuckles all healed now :)

Looking forward to seeing this, hope you can make it to the local meet in July, top work :notworthy: What oil and water temp readings are you getting? I'm showing up to 112 [running with Catrol Magnetex] oil on motorway run at 3250rpm, just thinking it might be a little high! Water showing no more than 90 so dont think it a major issue!

Was great to see the Corrado on the box, It looks very tidy james :notworthy: and I'm sure that one is worth more than £3000

Thanks Pete, compression is supposed to improve with running and bedding in, I'm just relieved that its running after the farce of the initial rebuild at Specialised Automotives. I very nearly had it rebuilt by a 'proper' rebuilders but couldnt afford another set of bolts etc, so having to suck it to see and hope its right this time! and no mate its my place, if youre ever up this way call in, but see you at the BVF anyway hopefully, looks like Sunday for the concours :cuckoo: Thanks iceviolet, great thread on compression test proceedure, will do it by the book next time  all I did was remove fuse 18 for the fuel pump, didnt disconnect inlet, dizzy, or floor the accelerator! will see if it makes a difference! Kip, will have a ride over one evening, up to 450 miles so far but still need more. I had forgotten how much I just love driving it, dont need a radio just that exhaust note :luvlove:

Thanks for the kind words, Heres proof it does go out in the rain  032.JPG[/attachment:ckpe7tu9] Covered 160 miles today, still running in and improving with every extra mile :D Now reving to 3250 nice and gentle, feeling and sounding brill, and a pleasure to drive in the rain now the heater matrix and control cables have been fixed, the screen actually demists   Compression test results have improved with 300miles; Before start up no 1. 185psi after 300 miles 185 no2. 185 160 ??? no3. 185 195 no4. 180 190 no5. 190 190 no6. 155 170 Still keeping my fingers crossed but beginning to trust it a little more after the 2nd rebuild!!

 Just have to smell it and I swell up, hmmmm, got me thinking now, could use my special tool
-
Thats a bugger, I'm allergic to peanuts :gag: Will have to stick to the Carplan black wax, works pretty well, apply on a warm day and leave it on,improves with regular use :)
-
Compression was tested before initial startup and read consistantly 185/190 on 1 to 5 but no.2 was showing under 160 psi. I haven't got round to retesting yet but seems to be running ok, will take fresh readings next time I take it out and post up if there is any difference.
-
Top work that man  thanks for comp readings, will have to convert to 'old money' to see if similar to mine, I understand that the engine should bed in and compression will improve, will take readings later on. I find mine is running a little warmer too but its probably because the engine is tighter. I had to change the expansion tank top to the later blue one, dont know why it is an issue after rebuild  Vibration, I trust you have tightened all the engine mounts? Does the six branch manifold have a flexible section to allow for engine movement or is it rigid, that could well cause some vibration I imagine  Hope it continues to go well, there is nothing worse than thinking its all done then having to start again :bad-words:
-
No  I'll lose points in the concours for them but they match the expansion tank top :norty:
-
Blue expansion top did the trick, no more pressure in the system. It's back with it's stable mate, Jim's 16v006.JPG[/attachment:36w5ixqs]

Had the first run out today having changed the oil, seems pretty good so far  Running in at 2500 rpm for a bit, 60 mph  I so want to put my foot down to test it, must be patient :nono: I have a little pressure build up in the cooling system which I am putting down to the original cap on the expansion bottle, will borrow one off the golf and try again It is so good to have it back on the road, Mot at the end of the month, considering everything has been done it should sail through! Thanks for all the help and encouragement and kind words :notworthy: Need a sit down and cup of tea, I shouldnt get so wound up after all its only a old car :brickwall:004.JPG[/attachment:1nyt7pum]
-
Good point pete, I live in hope though  Anyhow, its back in 'again', compression readings 185/190 slightly up on the last attempt, correct timing helps alot :bad-words: Cylinder no.2 is down abit but within tolerance :confused4: She started up quieter this time and seems to run smoothly. Have had it up to temperature and just needed to tighten one hose clamp, so far so good. Will run up to temp again then change the oil and filter as a precaution, then will put the front on and give it a gentle spin, fingers crossed :roll:001.JPG[/attachment:1bosteul]

Lovely looking car Franky, I like the engine bay stickers  are they from VW or copies? Good look with the heater matrix change, it must rate as one of the most unpleasant jobs on the corrado, I replaced mine recently with the dash still in, I didn't realise I knew so many swear words :bad-words:

When you have installed the motor I would recommend removing fuse 18 [fuel pump] and compression testing, this will prime the lubrication system before start up. I'm sure you already know this though! Your bores look better than mine , just wondered what difference this makes to the compression readings! My motor turned much easier after the second rebuild, I suspect it was over torqued last time, which scored the new shells, they looked worse having done about 20 miles than the old shells that had covered 105,000  I was asking about the old lump because I fancy having a go at a rebuild incase if I have any more problems with this unit, although I could do with the early distributor engine
-
Nice to see you are at it again, just fired mine up today after the second rebuild, :bad-words: really wished I had done it myself. Anyhow when you fit it would you mind letting me know what compression readings you've got, Mine is showing 185/190 on 1 to 5 but no.6 is down, it would be nice to compare! And, if you dont mind me asking, what are you doing with the old lump, is it well past it or could it be rebuilt

 Thanks Chris, hope you ve cleaned it up after the rain on Sunday, looking good, you should show it. Oh and dont worry I have break down cover  voo 51, thanks friend, yours is looking better every time I see it, serious investment involved there  Im hoping to fit it, prime the oil system and test compression shortly , heres hoping I dont need to remove it ever again :gag:
