  1. got the old bushes out today, and the news ones in. Cut a little bit too far with the hacksaw, through the bush housing and into the axle, not much i can do about that now, am sure it will be fine (its an easy area to keep an eye on)
  2. would it be best to adjust them both to the same level before installing, or do it all once they fitted. they didn't arrive in the same positions
  3. i've ground alot of rust off and gave it some rust treatment stuff, decided not to get too fussy with how it looks otherwise i'll get carried away and side tracked  i'm using the powerflex axle bushes pete, like you have. What is this pretensioning all about, did you do anything when you put axle back on.
  4. the SAE and the DIN thing i have are very similar, all thats different is the shoulder on the flare at the back, one is at 45degrees, the other is at 90degrees. the more i look at it the more i think either will be fine as they get crushed anyway to form the seal
  5. i'll just fit them and see whats what, rather than worry. it just looks to me as if there won't be much travel in the spring if i have them wound fully up, theres still another inch left to go up in that pic
  6. some knob-end will go up there early and buy nearly everything, then try to sell it on ebay later for more money, always happens
  7. but they look so short :! does the strut actually get longer, from spring plate to where it mounts at axle? all that it seems to do is compress the springs when i wind them up
  8. that may well have happened, but would of been quite unlucky for it to happen twice, i did check the boxes and both times it said VR 92> etc 1st i got the weitec ones, 2nd Pi ones, now got KW1's and they seem even shorter :!:!:!:! (check separate thread)

    Carbon Grill

FK do a "carbon effect" grill. Just plastic with the crappy film on it
  10. Just taken the rear shocks off the car, they are weitec -40mm shocks with Pi -40mm springs. i've bought the KW1's and they seem tiny to me, in every way  how am i meant to adjust them to their highest setting? do i wind the spring down down or up? the overall strut, from top mount to the bottom mount is alot shorter then the weitec ones? am confused now, i have visions of putting these coilovers on and it dropping to the floor, which is the last thing i want, i bought them to make car higher
  11. i can't be arsed to take all the discs and stuff off. all that was brand new, including bearings etc not long ago and i don't know how to take it off. it would just be a waste anyway, it'll be fine for another 5years i reckon
  12. finally got round to using the flaring tool i bought a while back, but not sure which bit i need to use. DIN or SAE? anyone know?
  13. they only make two sizes of the actual filter bit, its just the brakcet and piece of hose you need, which wouldn't be hard to source or make. i made my bracket from a bit of metal off the garden fence
  14. i have a set of KW1's sat here, hoping to get them all fitted by end of the week. Goldie has recommended them and others who have been in the car seemed impressed (from what i've read) i'm still not convinced that the front of my car will be higher than it is now (main reason for buying them)
  15. nice one, thanks. from that diagram it seems the bracket is actually undone, i.e: fitting the bracket at same time maybe? i've left the mounting bracket on car and don't fancy undoing it, as i know it all needs lining up properly after that. i think i understand it now. have been rubbing down the rear beam this morning, am having trouble typing as my hands are so numb/cold still. decided that painting it will be a massive and awkward chore, so i'm just getting off the lumpy rust and coating it in rust treatment. i hope by end of today i can have the rear coilovers fitted, new brake pipes made up and put in place and the beam rubbed down and treated. Not even attempted to get the old bushes out yet, they look very rusted in place :(
  16. gsf sell discs, they do brembo ones for a fair price.
  17. the headlights come apart quite easily, just take it off. then you will see lots of metal clips around the side, just lever them off with a screwdriver. then the glass just pulls off.
  18. £250!!!! Blimey! didn't know they were that much
  19. "i'm driving this because my other car is broken, or should i say a corrado"
  20. its stupid tbh, the guide on here says to cut the brake thing off, people have said in other threads to cut it off. In reality it doesn't need to come off. From now on i going to pay less attention to the internet, this isn't the 1st time i've been given bad advice......... ....right moan over. Yeah was freezing out there, still got loads to do (including making new brakes lines, bleeding all the brakes again, buying some new unions) i'm still not sure what this pretensioning means? to me i can only see you put the bush in the hole and bolt the axle back on. My old bushes were in a terrible state, split everywhere, the metal bit in the middle pretty much just fell out :!
  21. got the axle off today. didn't even need to remove the brake compenstator thing, it stays on the car? there was no need for me to cut through the old lines etc they could of just all stayed there :( we just took the nut off the axle bolt, slide it through towards the brake compensator and cut the head off, then it just slides out.
  22. what is this pre tensioning that i keep reading? i don't really understand it if i'm honest
  23. Getting beaten off at lights? blowin' a chap in the bushes? this is sick!
  24. in a way i'm disappointed as i had hoped less and less cars would be on the road due to it costing so much :( and only the stupid (me) would be driving around
  25. think i've done all i can now, going to wait until a mate can come and help get the axle off at the weekend. for things like the axle bolts and nuts, i like to renew, i ordered the bolts over the phone from VW but didn't realise i needed the nuts too :( do i have to go to VW to get things like this or can i just get nuts from anywhere?? surely they are just off the shelf fixings?
