  1. Happy to report coolant hasn't gone down after the 100 miles last night. Not started it yet but going for a drive soon. Feels nice to have a Sunday without having to be working on car all day. Windscreen outer seal blow out the recess last night. Is ok down the sides but the whole top edge just comes out. Think my windscreen was fitted a little bit low. Just tried to glue it on with seam sealer (run out of silicone)
  2. Cheers guys. Am hoping I'm just worrying for nothing. Just got in. Been out and did 100miles. All seems to work. Not going over 3500rpm. But was nice to hear a slight vr6 howl again. Can't wait til it run in and mapped etc So i can thrash it. Steering is feeling nice. Did the fixed column mod. Heavy, but think that's because I've been driving the audi. Coolant gauge read low all the time. Only goes over 75-80 if you are at sat still. On the plus side engine sounds so quiet. Am so used to listening for tapping etc Might get a new MAF anyway as sure it's s but lumpy low down and maybe overfuelling a bit.
  3. Well it passed the mot. Only a rear fog light and wipers wiped the wrong way. But that was the linkage on wrong. Fixed now. Am getting worried the head gasket isn't right. Going to drive it a bit first. Seems to lose coolant overnight and then there is moisture from exhaust when i start it cold. A bit gutting if it is the head gasket (or even worse something to do with the head) But i have all winter as going to be putting it back in the garage when the weather turns.
  4. Exactly what we did and it broke his snap on socket. Had to heat it up and that's what destroyed the trigger wheel
  5. My cam sprockets bolts were probably the hardest thing I've ever had to undo on the car so wish you luck with that.
  6. from memory when i did mine the two look quite different. Should look like this one
  7. Cheers, Is it wrong i'm already thinking about rebuilding another engine i have
  8. I hope so, they know the car very well as i bought it off one of the chaps that works there. Bodywork is a mess at the moment, but i'll sort most of that over winter, (just want to get to drive it this year in the dry)
  9. Seems to read low to me, fans kick in and dash gauge is around 80degrees with oil at 92ish. Not sure when the aux pump should kick in after turning engine off, i've just been turning it off and then turning ignition on so the aux pump runs and circulates water while engine cools.
  10. Fitted the icv and it started up and steady idle at just over 1000rpm for a little then dropped down to normal idle so think that fixed it. Also fitted the abs sensors and that had fixed the abs issues. Dash gauge still reads low so not sure what that is likely to be. So think its all ready for mot. Hoping to get it booked in for Saturday. Seemed to be quite a bit of moisture in the exhaust when i started it. Will check coolant tomorrow. Dreaded to think something might be up with head gasket. Will give it a proper drive and then worry it.
  11. Not sure it would really effect the operation of anything as its just water going around the matrix and back out
  12. Yeah, i noticed this when putting mine back together, doesn't go the obvious way round
  13. But yeah, spray it in every hole you can, did all inside my sills, the rear 1/4's, chassis legs, the rear panel where badges sit and also shoved it in as many holes on the floor pan as possible.
  14. Yes, had it on mine, The opening is at the front end where the bumper slides in to the chassis so i assume water gets in there, Or finds its way in from battery tray area I've let mine dry out and then used cavity wax with the long hose gun to fill the chassis legs with wax again. You can get a liquid penetrating wax and then a harder type that sets you spray over the first wax. http://www.rejel.com/rejel-store/classic-kits.aspx
  15. I think a MAF is going to worth me trying, i do have two but can't be sure either of them are 100%. I notice in the US they have found the bosch sensor in the MAF housing is the same part number on other cars and also much cheaper, Going to try and take mine apart as might of found the correct Bosch part for £30 instead of £160+
  16. Will have to look to see what i used. I just got it from work.
  17. Fitted the new coolant sensors today and made no difference to Idle. Along with stalling it also seems quite lumpy. Not massively just a bit more than i remember. Didn't get it warm as wanted to try bypassing the idle valve. So just connected the smaller pipe coming off inlet elbow to the intake. Basically bypassing the idle valve Think i should have blanked it off instead. I started car and the revs just shot up. Switched it off before it got to 2500rpm and going to wait for the new one to arrive.
  18. Despite liking cars, i've never actually been to a car show.
  19. Looking about and came across this http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/FP-265LPH-Intank-Performance-Fuel-Pump-VW-Golf-GLS-GLX-GTI-VR6-1998-2006-/111685527239?hash=item1a00f9e6c7 is that anything anyone has tried or heard of before, its another pump that fits inside the existing housing.
  20. Thiking of trying this isv http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/VOLKSWAGEN-GOLF-PASSAT-AUDI-80-100-200-IDLE-CONTROL-VALVE-MOTOR-ICV-/151518276348?hash=item2347316afc If i look for a corrado one its like £160
  21. Got a refund on it so going to look for one. Quite a choice on ebay. Does it matter if they are genuine or not? Some are £20. Seems like they fit quite a range of engines so not really corrado specific it seems.
  22. Fuel pressure regulator just turned up, doesn't look right to me. Basically the same as this. http://www.amazon.co.uk/Bosch-0280161511-Fuel-Line-Pressure-Damper/dp/B003CK7M7E No nipple bit coming off it and the underside looks to be different as well, getting fed up with eurocarparts, i have a pile of parts now to take back for refunds
  23. Just got them from VW Heritage, £25 for the pair. Will fit coolant sensors, FPR, Lambda and Brake sensors to see what that fixes, if not i'll look into a fuel pump. After that i guess it would have to be a wiring or ECU issue
  24. I just got back from VW and they had blue/black, my original was yellow and put a new yellow one in, they must of changed something in the last few years, going to try a new black and blue and maybe as well get another blue one. Decided not to order from VW as the two senders were something like £80
  25. Struggling to find the yellow sender now, did a vagcat and got the part number and this turns up https://www.vwheritage.com/shop/701919369D/switch-temp-sender-100-95c-20mm-black-blue-t4-90-03/ Says its blue, but the description says it does coolant gauge and water pump/fans run on.
