  1. Do people use any sort of paste here or just the triangular gasket on there own?
  2. Wasn't too bad in the end, had two trolley jacks this time so could adjust the angle of the car to the engine.
  3. I have been using an engine bay wax, says its heat proof but dries to a dull finish instead of shiny so might be suitable on manifold, i've used it on all the paintwork in the engine bay http://www.frost.co.uk/dinitrol-corroheat-4010-500ml.html
  4. Got the engine in yesterday, was quite chuffed as a mate was going to come and help but he had to watch some game where a load of men kick a ball around some grass??? So i thought i'd do it on my own. Painted the rear end during the week, not lacquered it yet though, not too bad for a rattle car. Drained gearbox oil Filled with MT90 New clutch fork and other parts that were easily replaced. New copper guide bush for the starter motor New clutch fitted Gearbox on and ready to fit The mission, should you choose to accept it And its finally in, after over a year without an engine
  5. Mine was the same. I managed to make up a new wire and connections and soldered it back on. Turned out better than i thought but not sure how long it was disconnected so probably doesn't do much
  6. Wonder if anyone will ever remake the lenses. As there are getting quite hard to find.
  7. 288mm calipers are pretty cheap and vw or other places sell rebuild kits. It just a seal round the piston and a dust cover. I rebuilt mine without any special tools or experience. Never had a brake problem since.
  8. Anyone got 1 single spare? I have 5 but need 6 and not going to VW to order one of them.
  9. Mine was different to that, is it a VR6 in that pic? None of mine had banjo connections, was all push on stuff with clamps
  10. I'm unsure of the bit you mean, but recently renewed all my fuel lines and think i have the old stuff lying about
  11. Mind me asking how much the new lenses were? Only because i have a set of new lenses and was thinking of selling them
  12. I'm struggling to remember where it went, i just ditched the aircon. Found some pics of what i removed, not sure if it helps
  13. Just looking about for alternatives, try a search for "clevis pin retainer" A few here, but not sure on size, looks like the right sort of thing. http://www.bresco.com/acatalog/Circlips_and_Retaining_Rings.html
  14. I have some nearly new standard rear shocks
  15. I renewed that plastic bit and gaskets when i was removing the aircon. Some of the wiring had just been passed through the mesh.
  16. Am sure mine has a plastic clip that isn't that obvious.
  17. Could try a different O-ring on the crack pipe, i renew mine most times i have it off (its a gruvenparts one) I just have a box of the Rolson O-ring, Cost hardly anything but i've fitted them to crack pipe, rad neck coolant sensors etc with no problems.
  18. Do you mean these bits? There is only one clip for that, holds the plastic mesh bit on top, if yours is already fitted you should be able to reuse the clip.
  19. I put a bit of blue tac behind mine = OEM+
  20. Just checked vagcat diagrams and a 1998 golf VR and a 1995 corrado VR have the same part number for the head gasket
  21. I've never thought about that, i wonder if i've gone and fitted a 2.9 gasket to a 2.8 now, hopefully they are the same, seemed to line up ok. I bought the gasket for a corrado, but have gone with a 2.8 bottom end.
  22. Finished the wiring. All ready for the engine now. Plonked the new downpipe in the hole ready to connect up.
  23. I usually hold the window up with some duct tape going up one side of the window, over the top of door and back down the window on the other side.
  24. I was going to say a Honda NSX but they are nearer £30-40k now!!! I'd quite like a Subaru BRZ
  25. Just looking at this pic iirc the corrado wire plugged into the cap before
