  1. you really cant compare our brakes, 288s or otherwise, to anything less than about 8 years old, the pedal just wont ever be the same. there is a definite and noticeable difference to standard though. was there much of a gap between you driving it between old and new?
  2. cool, the new layouts look pretty good up there! would love to get back there for some slip-sliding around Coram (even if I dont necessarily feel the same way about Brundle..) :) http://www.thecheckeredflag.co.uk/2011/03/snetterton-unveils-new-corner-names/
  3. without putting words into graham's mouth i think it was harder for them to go down on price given that they are made here to their specs and in smaller numbers vs others from the US etc. however he may just not have had so much time to devote to it too so if anyone needs something soon then maybe just give him a call?
  4. depends on your mileage really, but unless you're doing it yourself then its got to be at least a £750 job by the time you've bought a gearbox (eg 02M) a clutch, and worked out what other bits you're going to have to change before fitting it too. I guess it might pay back in a year if you did a lot of motorway miles though?
  5. moved to Wanted and finished writing your title - you cant assume that everyone will read every thread on the forum just to find out what the contents of it are, add as much detail to titles as you can for a better response.
  6. you know i've been thinking that looked wrong all day! and i'm the first one to deride other people's bad spelling too..
  7. really like this quite a lot..
  8. you're getting very cynical in your old age, maybe you should be a mod ;)
  9. http://www.motorsportvision.co.uk/brands-hatch/news/article.asp?NewsID=6581 if anyone who's not done one before (with them at least!) is interested :)
  10. yes, sounds like that should be ok, you might get some rubbing when pushing on though
  11. there are a few people considering it at the moment but I havent really heard of any completed upgrades out there yet. if you feel like taking the plunge I'm sure people would be interested in your results!
  12. the girling is a rarely used mod simply as it normally still goes on a 280mm disc and isnt a dramatic improvement over what you can get from using the larger discs with the sliding calipers already discussed. you can use a few porsche/seat/other brembo calipers on 312 discs and above but then you need to start worrying about wheel design or spacers (and custom brackets) and the calipers are now expensive 2nd hand in europe because lots of people do it. might be better in the US though so worth a look if you really want to go larger/more powerful. still vaguely VAG related too :)
  13. andy665 had black pro-race 2s on his but no polished lip, but there might be someone out there with them. would look alright i reckon though
  14. a rip off compared to doing it yourself but do you really think a high street mechanic like halfords/kwik fit is going to charge that work at any less than £100? I bet its cheaper than a dealer..
  15. what do you think it should have cost?
  16. do you mean that size? you should normally be on 40 profile at 17 inch. also, have you looked on any of the sites in the first post for prices or reviews? what do you want from your tyres? (good and cheap are not exactly unusual requests..)
  17. no, you can take the calipers off without taking the carriers off
  18. as mentioned though Jim, he's wrong, you cant get them for that new, they're over £200 each new with no tyres, hence me saying above that they're well over £1k with tyres. and that refurb price is at least £100 too much so the refurbed 2nd hand price with the tyres included will only be £500.
  19. that is quite ridiculously rapid..
