maybe the petrol is past its best andy?
  6. Jim, on mine with weights on the inside of the rim its a bit tight and they were "clicking" against the calipers for a while, but when i looked i think it was because the weights weren't right up to the inside edge. I think they'd be fine if they were all the way in - mine were a cm or so away from the spokes and i think that can make all the difference.. I'd still go for it if i were you! What happened to your other dark wheels too?
  7. In my massively-unqualified understanding of it Mic the main point is that the driven wheels are less likely to break traction the closer they match the direction that the car is travelling in. If you try to power out of a corner in front wheel drive there are more directional forces working on the contact area of the front tyres. Theoretically in a rear wheel drive car the rear tyres have to only worry about providing drive and the front tyres only have to provide directional change. Sorry if thats stating the obvious, and as you say, there are still some very quick fwd cars. I think the weight distribution point you refer to is not insignificant on grip either. Oh and also, I think pushing a load is easier than pulling it again due to the impact on grip. Interesting to hear more educated views though!
  8. yes, as near as makes no difference, and yes but it has done 137k and therefore would need a rebuild.
  9. they're being sold through G-Werks, look in the group buy forum though, you might be able to tag on the back of one thats just going through..
  10. the bracket is part of the 280mm kit - it comes with everything you need! :thumbleft:
  11. hi there! you've got the first ones there for sure. clear side repeaters are by far the best pound for pound upgrade IMO, followed closely by giving it a proper clean inside and out! (thats not a comment based on the photo by the way - i cant see it at work anyway) :) replacing/refreshing any other tired/cracked lights also make a big difference, same goes for tired rubber seals/trim on the exterior. bmc-cda air filter is the best thought of option if you go that route. have fun!
  12. so, was thinking about some front and rear arbs recently, in everyone's opinions what will make the bigger difference, braces or arbs? the car will be on new kw v1 coilovers so suspension will be up to scratch.. cheers john
  13. Roger, cant help with what would have caused the problem but just to say to you that i had something very similar but with my crank sensor wiring which degraded over a year and ended up with the car having a nasty top-end misfire. Vince spotted the blackened wire when remapping the car and eventually traced it through to the sensor - the other wires seem fine though, despite there being some of them that looked a bit discoloured too, and the problem was cured so i guess just be happy that you spotted it without it disrupting your long term enjoyment of the car! Cheers John
  14. yeah, to be honest i'd be surprised if you got more than 15-20 mins actually driving it i'm afraid, especially with the other things it includes - the ones that give you any serious time in a supercar are well on the way to or past the £250 mark. but it still looks like you'll have a great time though!
  15. I must admit I sometimes wonder where all the confusion about brake hoses comes from - somewhere along the way someone must have found a rare occasion where goodridge packs need mixing but i think its only where you're using passat front calipers or if you have changed to mk4 rears as well. If you are using the usual mk3 golf 288 calipers then the standard 6 hose kit from goodridge for a 95 onwards mk3 golf vr6 is all you need as the 4 rear hoses are the same on the golf and the corrado. cheers John
  16. dealers do them, or "lesbray" on ebay, or pw motorsport are bbs importers (google), will be about £30-35 for 4 cheers John
  17. really bad luck Stefan, dont know if that can be repaired or not although you hear of people swapping roof panels occasionally so even at the extreme i'm sure theres always a way. were there other cars damaged too? can't believe someone just chooses one time of the year to just target your car? :pale:
  18. got my connectors so will get my them and my cheque off to you asap. did you pm me your address already though? dont remember seeing it..
  19. no, good on you mate.. in my view most people dont seem to realise that until the recent scirocco, the only concievable vag successor to the corrado has been the tt - its a small, golf-platform based, affordable coupe.. more curvy than sporty looking agreed but still a great car as popularity shows.
  20. yep, definitely bargains but be aware that it will cost as much as mercs, beemers, porsches to run as there will be zero 2nd hand parts and vw will charge you 3x corrado parts prices for anything you need to replace. assume that every single time something goes wrong it will cost you £2k to fix it and if you're still interested then go for it!! :)
