yeah thats correct, i bought my corrado from him. I had a few problems with the car just after i bought it, he was did come round with VAGCOM to check it out - which is good. But the engine was burning oil at 115k, not saying that was his fault, though whether he knew about it and didnt let on or whether he didnt know is another story. Cant say i've had a bad dealing with him. Got his number if you want it.

The "what I did to my Corrado today" thread...

just smash the old switch out Jim and hold the new one in using a cable tie. -
Can anyone help me with this? Also can someone tell me if the helper spring on coilovers should be on top of the main spring or below, or does it not make a difference either way?

Monday morning Bump!

Check out Oilman's thread about oil. The synta gold is good stuff, but apparently is not completely fully synthetic (oilman's post will explain). But, as Jim said, if it works why change it.

Another question - How do i find out what the drop is? I've read some where before about measuring the length of the thread on the damper, or something. Can anyone explain? Also a really lame question - Would i wind the adjustable spring plates up to raise the car and wind the springs down to lower the car? Or would raising the plate, shorten the spring thus making the car sit lower and vise versa? can anyone explain?

I think most people would advise it, as would i.

Well guys let me know what you think? I feel, although it looks good imo, the front splitter and the cat heat shield do scrape on speed bumps - I think it'll need raising once the suspension has settled for a few weeks. measurements are: Front - 29cm Rear - 31.5cm Now my question is do coilovers generally, come delivered, set at their lowest setting because the measurements look low but im not sure what drop the car actually is, but the coilovers' range is 40-85mm drop. So if they were set to -85mm from manufacturer that would explain the low measurements - wouldnt it? It certainly is ALOT lower then 40mm. Though im wanting to seth the fronts as -55mm and rears -45mm. Cheers Gaz

Nice work. Im actually quite liking the primer look too! 8)

Good stuff, glad you got that part sorted. :D

Ha, nice and quick there. Cheers matey, i can commence now. :D Thanks Gaz

Hi all, Just having a go at fitting my new coilovers. However im not 100% sure how to refit the top mounts etc with the new coilovers. The coilovers, like all i guess, have a metal top plate already attached. Do i just rest the top plate on top of this or is the blue top plate a replacement for the black one that size ontop of the spring with normal shockers and springs?

Its right there mate. The handle should be square ish with rounded edges, pull the handle, turn to raise or lower and push it back in to lock it again.
-
At the very least save you blood, sweat and tears  Good investment though.
-
hello mate, Take the black plastic cover the runs the width of the boot to see the mechanism etc. Theres a handle to manually raise/lower the spoiler. I think you have to pull the handle towards you, then you can turn to raise/lower. Are you sure its the mechanism? Gaz

New rear pads, discs and wheel bearings. B1tch of a job at first getting the carrier bolts out. But after investing in some Irwin bolt grippers, they were out in 5 mins. Next is to fit the new coilies and get alignment done. Hope to soon have a new set of alloys too, *whisper* the girlfriend doesnt know that part yet *whisper* ;) -
Job now done! Yeah dude i did, the grippers made mince meat out of them anyway so i replaced and copper greased them, as you say. Seriously, i cant praise the irwins enough, I had all 4 bolts out within 5 minutes :D
-
Well i spent 3 hours last night with a blow torch, hammer, wd40 and freeze aerosol none of which didnt work. The Irwin grippers worked no problem at all. i cant believe how much easier it was. Definately a tool every mechanic or DIY mechanic should have. 10 out of 10! :D

I know they are allen head socket cap bolts I was thinking of rear carrier bolts too. Hammer a 12 point socket in a just large enough imperial size on them, it grips great. I can find out the size I used if you want? Theres no other use for those cheapo old imperial sockets rolling round in the toolkit :) Make sure its half inch drive and use a breaker bar. yeah if you could find out the size that would be great. I've just got back from machine mart with the bolt grippers. I hope i bought the right kit - i bought the actual kit not the expansion pack.

Will the Irwins get round head bolts off i.e. allen key bolts? Oh and monkey, but your other avatar back on  Yes it will get allen bolts off. Keep the avtar boost.[/quote:22ag8sso] Ill go get some now then. Preferred the Prirate Boost Monkey!

The thing is, its a allen head not hex. Sorry i may have forgot to mention its the rear brake carriers. Though i would imagine the front being bad to get off too, though not as bad due to the being hex bolts dont damn allen key bolts.
-
How much is the gripper? Let me know if you manage to get the gripper to work or get them out some other way, ill do the same. Im going to go down to the garage that i go to, if he can fit me in. See if he has anymore ideas or any luck with them. 3 sm3gging hours i spent trying to get them off and i got a bit high rate about it. :bad-words: EDIT - just read your post, grippers it is.

HELP!!!!!!!!!!! Anyone had as much trouble as me getting the :censored: carrier bolts off? I've tried a punch to shock them loose, heat, extension bar and even some of that aerosol that suppose to freeze the bolt. Nothing seems to work? Any more ideas?
