To add to the picture, with nominal 6 psi boost + Schrick mine gained 23 lb.ft and 37.4 bhp. BTW - I'm planning at some stage to play with the Schrick switch setting from the default 4k - has anyone tried optimising a Schrick?
-
A classic 12V torque graph. Has anyone ever sussed why they all dip just after 4k? [Regardless of any other mods you've done!]

   You mean F1 cars must now have headlights?!
-
Well yes there is a possibility of recurrence of Mansell's 90's achievement and Shuey nearly repeated that feat - but the odds on a repeat are v slim following all the tech changes and the speed with which "in season" development takes place these days. But ask yourself, do you follow F1 for the culmination of a final race result for team & driver or like me do you enjoy both the tech development as the season opens & unfolds, together with each individual race performance? Yes you get a warm glow from being associated with the nationalities of driver & team which succeed but when all's said & done, isn't that aspect really just one big sponsor/media fest? :ignore: Ironically Bernie's pushed for the scoring change over 2 seasons and his declared reason for it was to avoid arrival at ultimate/penultimate races with season's winners already identified! [Who said Brazilian's aren't exciting??!]

   Couldn't agree more Jim. Brawn/Barrichello/Button have put in some interesting initial performances & I hope they get the funding they deserve. I very much support Bernie's initiative - there's no room in sport for "strategic losers"!!

Adz Had some Proxes temporarily recently on my Bora - had very strong tram-line tendency.

Unlimited budget to mod a corrado what would you do?
Philmo replied to Swompy's topic in General Car Chat
Can't fault you there Billcor  Was thinkin only the other night - if I could have only 1 car, price no limit - that would be it. A practical, most technically accomplished supercar. -
It sure ROARS! :norty: Len - there's a meet 11th/12th April @ Elsecar - see separate thread.
-
IIRC Storm's had Conolly spec.
-
That's a c-cooler & a half. Whose is it? & is that a Bora bay?
-
Already regretting not making UD's - snow in Leeds! I see Corrado's lead the way again! Re the springs, Dave - do you have any data on relative spring rates for the Eibach, PI & KW?

New daily.... Still a V6 only a little biggererer

I thought 4Motion was essentially Haldex as ont' Bora? -

So it's got 5 valves, it's in-line and has wide [90deg?] vee. Was this pinched from Audi? -
Sounds like a cop-out!
-
  But what did his car get??? Ditto re the mani - so flexible without obvious functional downside/compromise.
-
Can't fault yr synapse function!
-
I've got some extra thick black foam [8mm approx] which makes excellent replacements for the tired OEM blocks which fell off.
-
Do you mean smiley?? ! Sorry Kev - you must know I'm closely related to Marvin [cybernaut]

When you change the cams, you modify the gas flow regime and [hopefully] increase the power / energy throughput and therefore also raise the combustion space temperatures. The risk of premature ignition [knock] is therefore raised. Even if the cooling system capacity has been improved its response speed is limited and will simply facilitate a generally steeper temperature gradient from combustion space to ambient air. Given the VR's known weakness in combustion space coolant circulation/distribution - do we really want to risk stretching that weakness further? IMHO - to modify a mechanical process significantly and then not review its control system [including general health / protective controls] is a recipe for possible mechanical failure.
-
Yes the cams actually make sufficient difference to the flow regime [and therefore potentially the a/f control] that you should have concerns if you DON'T have your mapping checked over after the 263's are installed. Do you really want to risk engine damage which might ensue if the fuelling and knock control haven't been reviewed following the change? Vince doesn't charge £X00's for the checkover if no significant map review is done - iirc £65 for mine in May '08.
-
Absolutely, the same engine with the VSR mapped on 263's and mapped on 268's would be a good comparison and a good source of information. :) Agreed - & I think Dukest will shortly be in best position to advise on that one. How's it goin John? :?
-
Me too John!! please let me know when they are in!! Hey John - you must be in best position to put all of us out of our misery! Please don't forget to capture the 268+Schrick curves before the 263+Schrick curves. [both post re-mapping - of course!]
-
Hey Tom You'ld put anything on a thread if it reminded you of : a)Sex b)postal excrement c)fast food!
-
Vince probably still has graph, post cam change, pre remap though. :)
-
I'm gobsmacked that there is an issue here. I understand Normancoal likes to see separate attribution of gains to cam change and re-mapping, but why? The full benefit of the cams can't be seen until the maps have been reviewed/adjusted to suit the new airflow regime. Surely with any mech/elec change you follow the mod with optimisation of the control system in order to realise the gains potentially available. To separate the two stages of development is a little over-academic! [imho]
