I shouldn't worry about it, in a few years time the government will outlaw older cars to be driven on the roads anyway... those that haven't been scrapped...
-
Oh I'm sorry Dave so you can! so I went through all that trouble for nothing, arse! Mind you I couldn't fit a second little fan infront of the Rad without cutting about the slam panel, but I don't think it was anything drastic. Phoning you today about the controller.... :D
-
Can't you still buy the Recaro bolsters from VW?
-
Not very well, the foam i have is too soft, so i've got to order some more. You don't need any foam do you!! Yeah I wanted them infront of the rad though, there isn't enough room for them both in front. If it comes to it I'll just stick some on the back of the rad too, no problems then! It cooles fine with one fan according to Carl, but I'd like to have a controller to automatically adjust the speed of it to maintain optimum operating temperature, I think that Daves jobbie can do that if I've understood correctly?
-
And me!! I've just checked out your fan controller Dave having just posted what i thought I was going to do you've now got me thinking otherwise! I like the idea of being able to control the fan speed accurately to maintain a more even temperature, something that I wouldn't be able to do with just the two speeds. Toad, unfortunately you can't turn Dave's fan brackets round the other side, the holes in the front of the rad are different. I ended up doing this....

Well i had originally intended to use two fans and wire them up so that one fan was the equivalent of 'speed one' two fans were the equivalent of 'speed two' and just ditch the third speed. However i went up to see Carl (bigpantsbaby on here) who's already done an R32 conversion and he had just the one fan which was infront of the rad instead of behind it. He told me he'd never had a problem with it overheating so I was sold on the idea as it creates so much more room behind the rad for access to bits etc. Buuuuuut the long and short is I haven't actually wired it yet!!! What I'm intending to do is have a couple of relays in the car, one with a resistor so that when it comes on it'll turn the fan slowly, the other running at full pelt, controlled by outputs on the the ECU. I've got a relay bank that houses a few extra relays (ECU, headlights, F pump, widebands, and a few others) inside the car as I really dislike having them outside the car. I've had to do a bit of rewiring so that cables will take the current (headlights!) but I feel it's the better option. The only reason i can think VW put the fan realys outside is beacuse of the ridiculous amount of current draw the old fans have, hence the massive chuunky cable feeding it which you wouldn't want feeding through the car if you could avoid it. If you look at the spal fans, see the pathetic wiring coming off it, and it gives you a fair idea of the difference in current draw!

The pump is there to pump the water round the system when the car is off anyway isn't it?
-
I've binned the nasty little fan control unit when moving over to a slimline fan, got in the way of my new airbox position! Yep same signal to control both, using relays of course!
-
That would be a Golf Gti convertible then!
-
That's excellent work Doug, wish I had your electrical brains :( The most interesting thread on here at the moment. :D
-
I reckon you should get all the ally bits sand blasted and then just spray with silver to bring it back to looking new rather than modified. i think it always looks classier. But that's just me :D Keep up the good work kempy. Just grind the three downpipe bolts off and be done with it!

I sold mine to a mate when I went self employed and needed to free up some cash, bought it back off him after a couple of years later and never regretted it! You'll get it back mate!
-
The valvers are very good around the twisty roads you have :D but a turbo would be more fun 8)
-
Take the rear caliper off and you'll see the lever the handbrake pulls, you probably need to free it up.
-
Motors in Motion eh! I bought my motor from them. They never sent me the exhaust manifold, airbox, correct wiring loom and several other bits that were supposed to be included but then once I'd paid them they apparently wern't... Still, just an ECU should be fine! :D
-
I saw that!
-
Couldn't agree more! Good to catch up with you again Tom! Really enjoyed my blast in your car, my first drive in a Corrado VR6 for nearly two years! It was a lot quicker than I remember mine being! I think you should keep both on the road, then you can be fixing one up whilst driving the other, and appreciating each for their own quirks  Thanks for the drive pal :D
-
Nice car you have there! I always think it takes at least six months of driving the car to sort out all the niggles once you've done a big conversion, only then will it tick all the boxes and be a satisfying everyday car. It's not like you've just slung a different engine in, you've changed everything!
-
Yeah there going to look nice, did you roll the arches or beat them out?
-
Congratulations Rob, not far to go now then! makes me sad mines still not finished though :( I need to pull my finger out...
-
Yes for sure buddy!! When I can finally get onto it I'll give you a shout, will you be bringing the VR? I'll have to have a go in that too, I've forgotten what a proper sports car should feel like :D Pete keeps making me drive around in his family four door saloon. :D LOL. Yeah will do. Spoke to Pete earlier, hope to pop over and say hello this weekend while he's around, so a drive in a proper car might not be far away. Ahh I forgot it's ED38 this weekend, and whilst I'm not too into the stretched tyre scene, I'm still going on up there with a mate of mine....but I'm leaving early so I may be back quite soon too, may still meet up?
-
Yes just 1 and 4, very impressed with the kit too mate :salute:
-
Thanks Chris :thumb right: 17x7.5 buddy. I keep having to have a peek at the brakes through the wheels, bit sad that! by the time you get yours finished i should hopefully have got round to turning my boost up, so we'll have to get them on the track and sort the men from the boys! good to hear you've got the foam through at last, loved looking at the seats when i was down there. it's almost theraputic putting seats together isn't it?! by the way, any time i'm down to see you and you fancy takng the evo out for another quick blast it's always there for you :D You'll be needing all the extra boost you can get your hands on,then you might be able to catch me on the straights   bring it on! Think we should organize that karting day soon! Yes for sure buddy!! When I can finally get onto it I'll give you a shout, will you be bringing the VR? I'll have to have a go in that too, I've forgotten what a proper sports car should feel like :D Pete keeps making me drive around in his family four door saloon. :D

You can use the Audi pipe that joins to the Audi airbox, then attach some ducting onto that round the side of the battery to the front.. If you've got an R32 airbox, then presumably an R32 will have a similar feed pipe to the airbox?

 Nope sorry bud, haven't seen the car for a while! It's sat outside in the rain at the moment. Just waiting for another car to finish with the 2 poster, then it's finish loom time and engine back in for good! I've finally got round to getting some proper foam for the seats though, so i'll be doing that soon..... Had a good drive in Pete Griffs Evo, loved every minute of it, still grinning! :D
