Temp gauge rises when cold - Gauge/cluster working fine
Mawrick replied to Mawrick's topic in Engine Bay
bumping this again. earth seem to be ok in the harness atleast. what I'v found from doing some research on the Passat is as follows: it seem to have much same resistance as on my Passat VR6, but when I turn ignition on the Passat it will have roughly 9V at the harness, and the Corrado will only deliver 6V . AFAIK the cluster operates roughly around 9V so that make sense on the Passat - but I'm baffled at what might cause it too loose 3V on the Corrado. Any tips apreciated....:) starting to think someone have been looking for power for something else somewhere and hooked themselves into this feed....:( (haven't found anything yet though...:( ) -
refitted the old temp sensor controlling the fan's so now it operates as it should..... refited a brand new OEM ground cable for the bonnet (it even came in it's own box...lol). fastened the head lights refilled coolant. Also noticed one of the new frost plugs on the head seem to be leaking a bit so that need sorting :(
-
btw, you might want to clean that MAF sensor. If you remove it from the car and spray plenty of "start gas" on it to clean off "tar" etc......it might work better :) Also remember when you have had ignition on and/or turned the car off don't put ignition on again before roughly 15 seconds as the MAF burns of contamination by getting heated up during those 15 seconds.

What VR6's have the SAI pump? (or supposed to have)
Mawrick replied to Mawrick's topic in Engine Bay
This one: -
Just saw a VR6 with a SAI pump on vortex - is this supposed to be on my 95 Corrado ?. Or it this other versions of the VR6 ?.
-
not sure about those air meters - but before changing speed sensor that error might come up when the car isn't running - even if the sensor is working. Also VW guarantee parts for 10 years - but normaly makes them longer - at least if it's a demand for them (one good reason for buying from the stealers :) )

Temp gauge rises when cold - Gauge/cluster working fine

Bumping this one (with some additional info in the first post)..... -
No worries - seem like I resolved the problem as it seem to be the new brown temp sensor that's failing somehow - running fans on full throttle at 72C's........just had the old one hooked up and it seem to kick in higher up, but also only on first speed (haven't installed it again yet though.....:) )
-
what might cause it to kick in so early - I'v had the car sitting in the driveway and fans runs all the time after 70C's - and it seem to hold a working temp of around 78-79C's......:(
-
What would be usual temp for the VR6 fan's to kick in. Mine kicks in about 70C's......though that's a bit early ?.......or supposed to do that ?

Temp gauge rises when cold - Gauge/cluster working fine
Mawrick replied to Mawrick's topic in Engine Bay
hmmmmmm - I'v now tested the cluster in my Passat - and it seem to be working fine. Also the Passat cluster (wich I know is working) rises up the temp gauge in the Corrado. To me it seem like pin 23 (AFAIK) on the cluster harness goes up to roughly 15-6mA on the C - and the Passat rises to roughly 7mA (but that is when engine is about 70C's). Anyone know where this pin comes from ? - is it routed via the ECU - and might the ECU be at fault?. -
Alright will the speakers from a 35i Passat dash be the same - as I think there are some phoenix goldones in my spare parts passat......
-
The Oem one is already out I think but I can't say I recognise the speakers in it at the moment (other then a MDS subwofer - although I don't know much about that either - but I'v heard the name before...;) ). Are these sizes something I would find directly out of f.ec Pioneer's sortement ? (or any other makers). Also the rear one is some "nokia" speakers - are these OEM speakers ?
-
never really had the pleasure of driving the C on a daily bases (will quite soon though) - but even if it's pretty much been sitting in my ownership - due to a total overhalling I still tend to catch myselfe smiling when I'm sitting in the seat of the C - funny thing is that way before I knew wich car this was I was with my father at a VW workshop years ago (must have been around 90) I saw this Volkswagen car drive into the shop just in front of me - from that day I knew I had to have one of these cars (even if it was years later I learned that that car was a Corrado - at the time of sighting I had no idea what it was called). And to "top it" - the C was never "officially" sold new in Norway - a few of em came thru as special order cars - but that must have been like 2-4 cars.....lol
-
Should I consider another C as a winter beater?
Mawrick replied to Mawrick's topic in General Car Chat
Strongly starting to consider to get another one - realy don't like to drive them during winter due to salty roads and shit - but it's either C all year around or C during summer and then Passat TDI 140/170hp or a CC with same engine during winter.............realy haven't decided yet........ -
I will officially withdraw the ignition switch as it's not a big deal - if you have Irwins - or don't have to deal with the "rounded of bolts".....:) I will however add one other thing and that's "navigating" the bolt close to firewall - that holds the "cover" for the ABS-central on some VR6's - not sure if it's common shield as it doesn't show up in etka - it's only one of thos fiddly things.......lol

Think someone is scoping out my car to nick it....
Mawrick replied to harryc's topic in General Car Chat
Or maybe hang up some big banners saying "mess with my C - the basement is next" .....and I got a .22 to do the walking.............F'off........... :hitler: -
What size of speakers fit in the following places: Door dashboard and rear wings. And any tips on what speakers that's good for a C. I'm not just after "base" - but generally an overall good speaker - for pretty much all type of music...;)
-
Figured out that the A/C system seem to be "working" - only missing gas (or it might be leaking, but that have to be checked out at a shop). Sorted out some bad wiring - rewired with soldering and some "shrinking hoses" (or whatever you guys call it) - some wiring couldn't be saved due to cut almost at harness - but atleast put on some shrink hoses over the "cable connectors" they put on it). Also fixed wiring on amp +++ on aftermarket audio system put in.....

You'v gotten me further into the plans of installing a spy cam with live feed from the C - so I can chase down and destroy some knees if anyone ever touches it.......:) -
Anyone got a picture of relay/fuse box (with A/C) (tips??)
Mawrick replied to Mawrick's topic in Engine Bay
Done some more investigation - actually looks like that nr 13 shouldn't be here - or it's integrated into the FCM or something, as when I jumped the cables stated in the bentley - it delivered +12v to the clutch - wich indicated the system is out of gas.....:) Will have to get it vacuumated and refilled if there is no leaks. Anyone know if it would be "normal" for the system to bleed of the gas during it's life time (if it hasn't been refilled since 95) - or does that mean there is a leak that have to be dealt with ?. -
On my VR6 there is 1 blue wire going to one of the sensors that sits on top of the oil-filter - not sure how it's on the 16V though - but might sound right?.
-
Well your timing and compression appear good. I would say that your MAF appears to be working if the car dies when its unplugged. Try plugs first if you say they are knackered, thats a cheap thing to replace. I think only early VRs stall when the MAF is unplugged, but it would still run like a bag of sh!te. Though i would expect a dodgy MAF to show up on vagcom. It could be the leads or coil pack. late one's will for sure run without it - actually forgot to put back on the maf with breather hose etc when I fired it up once - it had no trouble idling.....
-
Can it be the wire that goes onto the alternator ?

Mawrick replied to Mawrick's topic in Engine Bay
actually found that the switches inside seem to operate the harness on the control valve - I got +12V on one of the other wires as well when switch set to "norm" or "max" - the 2 still seem to be set to "ground"...... Realy not sure the wiring diagram is exactly the same as I have on the car - that's why I'm wondering if it might be controlled in the fan-control module (ie no relay 13)........I have to do some more research....:)
