Made love to the tail pipe........oooohhhhhhh yeeeeeeeaaaaaaahhhhhhh baby!

Well done for getting it this far. :thumbleft: What block is that then it's not a PG or 3A, 9A, 6A.

I did everything else but I didn't do the bias! :D I let a good man do it along with the rear beam bushes, I'm an enthusiast but I'm not stupid! :D Plus I needed it doing as it was fooking dangerous and cost me £200 for a new set of tyres!! Even rubbed some paint off the inner arch with tyre distortion!!
-
I think there only £35!

I think eagles really balance the car in hard corners, makes it easy to put the car where you want with a bit of lift off oversteer or pedal down understeer. I think traction off the line could be better but I haven't notice any loss of grip at the front end and my fronts are nearly illegal. I haven't tried other brands though as I went for eagles first and was very happy with them, mind you before the eagles I had a different tyre on every corner! The first set I had lasted 18 months, I flat spotted everyone of them in a seriously long locked up skid (due to a faulty brake bias valve and speeding, oops! oh and some old b'stard doing 30mph in a 60mph) The 2nd set I've done about 20k on in 3 years and the fronts as I say are about done, the rears have loads left. I really like the side wall design they're really flat and square if you know what I mean the rim guard works well too. BEROL!

It's definitely worth sorting the suspension components I replaced pretty much everything with VAG stuff because I wanted to know what standard new Corrado suspension felt like. It feels tight...! :D Only thing not replaced were the springs. Make sure you do everything you can. I didn't replace one wheel bearing and now it's squeaking! :mad2: I was totally skint and it wasn't absolutely necessary to do at the time. Get it 4 wheel laser aligned and eagle F1 tyres all round too!

If it makes you feel any better Paula, I've just been electrocuted by my laptop due my microwave having some sort of earth leak fault! RANDOM I KNOW!

I meant buy a new car.... seriously these Corrado's are over-rated! Yup, old rusty bollocks. No one ever said you weren't going to be bent double and smoothly shafted by the man when you started tearing the car down. I thought about letting you know of the anal pain you would suffer and even the cost of two drop links but I thought nah he'll find out soon enough as I did with my car in bits and with two rusty twisted peices of metal falling to bits in my hand. Don't thank me, your welcome, Adrianna! :D

Good Work Rhonda!!

That little b'stard broke on me too, on a new cable! had to make up a working cable using my old one. I've cut a hole in a bonnet before to get the thing open luckily it was a temporary item. :|

Any news yet Matt and how about that engine your building? :)

I am complaining, it's too hot for England! My horse gets tired too quick. Random I know but true!

All you leather boys, haha, I remember my dads vinyl seats in our old mk1 cortina. It was like a torture getting in that car in the 70's hot summers. And in the winter they were freezing. brrr! Leather seats! A bit like conservatories! Bloody useless!

If your hearing rattles whilst driving or at lights with the clutch down that's not good. I think the noise your hearing when rotating the driveshafts is normal gear diff play. Worth checking the oil level!
-
Apparently it's to do with bearing wear in the water pump, alternator, etc. Toothed is more sensitive to these discrepancies and that's the root cause as well as weak tensioners. I won't have one on mine as I hate cars that break down or are unreliable as I usually get rid of them. Touch wood my G60 has not left me at the side of the road, unless I leave the lights on, and then I'm not going anywhere! :brickwall:
-
Hmm I spoke to go-lpg and they said you won't increase performance using LPG as it's only got 85% of the calorific value. NOS is a good idea needs to be done right on a G60 though, but not much good for saving money though!

It would appear it is rather more difficult to reproduce the same energy as crude oil by other methods cheaply. Re-locate to kuwait an old friend of mine has just moved out there and has bought himself a a 6.0l V8 Mercedes as petrol is cheaper than water, apparently crude oil seeps out the ground of it own accord. I watched something the other day on telly and this guy said it's all very well trying to go green but crude oil or petrol has more energy than TNT or was it nitroglycerin? I forget! Anyway there's nothing wrong with CO2 it's all bollox you mark my words. They'll be laughing at us in 2040, wetting our knickers over carbon offsetting, what a load of nonsense! Ooops way off topic! :ignore:

Nope but I did find out that LPG only has 85% of the energy of petrol! :|

What were the cast pistons you used mate? Which engine code were they from? Not the 3A ones are they? Im just weighing up cast VS forged as like you mention, forged may be a bit ott...Using a little oil etc until up to full working temp. With cast pistons, you won't get them to run with correct FI CR with standard vw rods (144mm) in a 220mm block, you have to get custom length rods made so it actually cost more than buying some forged jobbies. But you can get really good quality Mahle cast pistons that are design specifically for efficient burn rate of fuel/air with a compression lump to push the gasses toward the spark, which I haven't seen in a 92.8mm crank, 144mm rod forged pistons, which puts me off them. So £350+ for the pistons and then £450-500 for the custom length rods. Your looking at at least £500 to have the block machined and minimally built. I had a few extras done which meant my engine cost about £800 to have built. So it's not cheap. Forged pistons into a 3A would be the cheapest option but as I say I don't know what they are like when it's cold an frosty first thing in the morning. Brrrrr!
-
Oh yeah I forgot about those, I looked at them initially but wanted to stay with 83 mm cast pistons in the end for daily driving. I like the way those pistons mirror the combustion chamber. I'd like to see the full specs on them first, but yeah they look a good option. Biggest thing with forged pistons is bore clearance, the less the better. From what I have read, I wouldn't want pistons with more then 0.07 mm (0.003") clearance. Saying that though I've never run forged in any car I've owned so no real experience of the problems with forged pistons on a daily basis.

This is my thread on VWVortex. http://forums.vwvortex.com/zerothread?id=3866413&page=1 Knock sensor has been moved into a Golf Limited G6016V position. Here you go for 83.5mm low CR 220mm block pistons, most people go for 83mm as the cc difference is only 24cc at the end of the day. http://www.eurospecsport.com/products/c ... istons.htm You can get big BHP without a capacity increase, but if you want the torque to match more cc's is the way to go imho. :shades:

Impulse are excellent and always have time to talk tech, hence my sig, they're happy to do custom stuff and Adrian is a top bloke, no BS. As for a low compression 3a bottom end, I designed my own! Be interesting to see what you come up with for a design for your rods and pistons. I reckon I could get 2008cc from a PG now with the experience of doing a the 3A and having a good look at a spare PG bottom end with a 92.8mm crank and retain the oil squirters.
