Is there any (good) brake discs that won't rust/loose colour
CTWG60 replied to Mawrick's topic in Drivetrain
Yeah Ceramic Brakes! Expensive though! :D -
http://www.direct.gov.uk/en/Motoring/Bu ... /DG_177879 There you go! IVA scheme does not cover engine swaps! What a TW@T!!!!!!! :salute:
-
This is screwy! Right I've read the relevant parts of the Draft IVA and it's only relevant to vehicles that are classed as rebuilt or manufactured from parts of another registered car. Well to be rebuilt "is not an amateur built vehicle or a vehicle manufactured using parts of a registered vehicle" and a remanufactured vehicle has to meet three requirements from what I can gather and an engine from another registered vehicle is only one requirement, the other is a business that does this sort of thing as a business and it has some other part of that vehicle! From what I can gather it doesn't suggest any such thing! Another Moron Reporter! Needs more reading to be sure but I've read enough to convince myself he's talking bollox! :)

Bit of confusion over the CHA they appear to come from passat diesels but the FD is like 4:1!! EDIT Ahh not a turbo diesel only 75hp that makes sense now, heavy car not much power!
-
It really isn't that important, it's more important to have a box that drives well, but yeah it does seem like a target just because the CBA won't even get close! :) I'd spend £50 on a dyno run to find out what the engine is doing throughout the rev range. Are you struggling for traction?
-
I'd try a CDA but you might want to stick your CBA 5th in there as 135 in 5th at 6200rpm isn't much! See the knowledge base for a how to. Gearbox:- CDA 2L 16V Tyre:- Goodyear Eagle F1 195/50 x 15 ------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- Top Gear gives 21.873 MPH/1000 RPM and a top speed of 135.611 MPH at 6200 RPM Engine speeds in top gear:- 30 MPH = 1372 RPM 40 MPH = 1829 RPM 50 MPH = 2286 RPM 60 MPH = 2743 RPM 70 MPH = 3200 RPM 80 MPH = 3658 RPM 90 MPH = 4115 RPM 100 MPH = 4572 RPM Top Speed in 1 gear = 34.404 MPH And changes into 2 gear at 3653 RPM dropping 2547 RPM Top Speed in 2 gear = 58.390 MPH And changes into 3 gear at 4170 RPM dropping 2030 RPM Top Speed in 3 gear = 86.819 MPH And changes into 4 gear at 4881 RPM dropping 1319 RPM Top Speed in 4 gear = 110.291 MPH And changes into 5 gear at 5042 RPM dropping 1158 RPM Top Speed in 5 gear = 135.611 MPH ****************************************************************************************** Gearbox:- Corrado CBA Tyre:- Goodyear Eagle F1 195/50 x 15 ------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- Top Gear gives 24.049 MPH/1000 RPM and a top speed of 149.105 MPH at 6200 RPM Engine speeds in top gear:- 30 MPH = 1247 RPM 40 MPH = 1663 RPM 50 MPH = 2079 RPM 60 MPH = 2495 RPM 70 MPH = 2911 RPM 80 MPH = 3327 RPM 90 MPH = 3742 RPM 100 MPH = 4158 RPM Top Speed in 1 gear = 30.359 MPH And changes into 2 gear at 3475 RPM dropping 2725 RPM Top Speed in 2 gear = 54.161 MPH And changes into 3 gear at 3982 RPM dropping 2218 RPM Top Speed in 3 gear = 84.332 MPH And changes into 4 gear at 4407 RPM dropping 1793 RPM Top Speed in 4 gear = 118.642 MPH And changes into 5 gear at 4933 RPM dropping 1267 RPM Top Speed in 5 gear = 149.105 MPH ******************************************************************************************

Sorry for venting on your thread Joe, it's you who should be annoyed. Anyway I've calmed down now. You have a level headed PM. :D

Bit of inspiration on the engine side of things. Sounds Unbelievable! http://auto-tv.ro/filme/488.html
-
Actually just starting to plan something like this myself and was wondering about donor vehicles for engine and subframe but wouldn't go wide track due to having to go 5 stud etc. Err or is that not the case.

Because they are ugly?!?
-
Head on way! with piston and gudgeon pin for company! :D
-
Buy a toothed locking tool off ebay it's the only way! Heads off will get it off to you asap!
-
You'll be pleased to know the my head is off! :D I'll get it posted next week. PM me your address!
-
I can send you a piston with the head if you like! No charge! :D Coming off this weekend come hell or high water! :ignore: Really?! Mate, that would be truly legendary! :D  :notworthy: Are you sure no charge though? I'd happily pay you something for it. Nah! You've helped me out enough and been very patient. Call it a gift! I'll figure out which ones in the best condition! Gives me a good excuse to take a chop saw to a couple of them to satisfy my curiosity and the last one I'll get polished and use for an ashtray even though I don't smoke. Often!

Just saw a guy on the CCTV put a piece of paper under my wiper and then saw him drive off in a mk3 golf. Went out to see what it was and discovered he wanted to buy my car. Best thing about the whole thing though was that he was in a VR6!!
-
Did anyone archive this? The link is now dead and I've searched a load of caching services and can't find it! bugger!
-
I should not read these threads!. :help:

There's no feeling like buying a car on impulse!

Or its cheap from VAG too and proper vac hose! :) Blue temp sensors and black temp sensors don't work the same way so its no use swapping the plugs over. Blue temp sensors from non-VAG sources are notorious for being rubbish, I know of one person who went into a well known 3rd party supplier with an ohm meter, it took 5 blue temp sensors to find one in the correct range. My G60 is also suffering a similar problem, fine from a complete cold start but rubbish on a warm restart, no power and struggling revs, I need to dip the clutch, boot it and dump the clutch a few times to sort it. Not invested it yet as my ankle is still pretty fecked from an accident a month ago, that and it keeps raining. It is clearly a warm/hot start issue so I am leaning more towards a BTS as I replaced the vacuum hose 12 months ago and it works fine the rest of the time. Need to get out there with the break out lead and a fluke. TPS gave me the run around with vac hose, so went to gsf. Never bought a BTS from GSF for the above reason!
-
Ahahahaa that's what I said to myself! No offense meant.
-
Whenever I've had idle problems it's always been the map hose that runs to the ECU. Few quid from GSF. I've had to replace mine twice in the last 5 years! Make sure it's proper vac hose! Blue temp sensors are cheap too you can test them with an ohm meter aswell.
