1. shouldnt the angle of shown above be taken from the top mount pivot point, then to the ball joint pivot point? where you have it now would be OK if we had double wishbones (nows theres a thought....) http://i74.photobucket.com/albums/i273/Chris_Eyre/Chassis/tn_KPA.jpg ---------- Post added at 06:35 PM ---------- Previous post was at 06:28 PM ---------- looking at the link where I found the above picture, there is some interesting reading. may be of use? http://www.clubgti.com/forum/showthread.php?t=228182
2. I may be able to get the hubs assessed for their material properties so we could confirm the spec, if needed still? Regards to costs and minimum orders. We can spread out the word to other vr6 owners, at £150 per side I think this is good value. Do we need to carry out stress analysis due to the changes in the mounting positions and the effect it has on the integrity?
3. I may be able to help too with proto's or castings but would take some digging.
4. mk4 callipers dont seize easily like the ones on the corrado. You can get bigger brakes as detailed here http://the-corrado.net/showthread.php?38896-The-280mm-REAR-brake-thread&highlight=rear+disc+upgrade
5. but wouldnt the top of the lbj pivot outwards due to the strut, after all there are only 3 major joints (BJ, wishbone arm and strut top)? or are you thinking that the compression of the springs doesnt allow for that. If that is indeed the case, I wonder why vw planned for the to happen as you hit bumps and corner? My idea (briefly whispered at the beginning of the thread) was to have a g60 bj fitted to the vr6 wishbones then fit to it a modified version of the current bje available to extend and then angle to the vr6 bj angle and with the same attachment feature ie tapered and bolted. This probably doesnt make sense as its hard to explain. I've done a very rough sketch and Ill try to upload it.
6. why would the hub move inboard? I would say it would go outboard, if you mock it up on proe or something similar it would be very easy to confirm. Having an extra joint is just going to be complicated and messy, may aswell make a new bj to replace the oem one. what about my idea of the g60 bj with a bje that has a 70deg elbow?
7. Isnt there a load of differences in standard ride height on rado's as Ive never been able to get a simple answer to work out how much ive lowered mine by. Jay's input will be interesting. May be worth measuring both sides to factor in suspension sag.
8. fla, your right if the dropped spindles are ever made, but the ball joint extender is what boost monkey is refering to. Havent been on the forum for a short while but things seem to be progressing well here. Fingers crossed we may get to avenues of positive responce ie dropped spindle (my preference) and BJE's
9. Stupid mobile phone keyboard. Sentence should have started as, got mine from....
10. Forums from vw, cheap as chips but was a while back. Give them or tps a try.
11. Wigs, your getting much better MPG than I do. I get 26-27 MPG (calculated per tank), thats with general use! Must have something wrong with mine, will get it looked at.
12. halfords one as mentioned. puuurrfecto!
13. how much for the metal section of the windscreen edge at the top. need a decent depth and complete width. In addition, how much for the rear engine subframe minus wishbone ---------- Post added at 11:00 PM ---------- Previous post was at 10:48 PM ---------- scrub that, looks like the car for breaking has got as much rot as the one im trying to sort out. I guesse the subframe has gone as I didnt realise how long this advert has been on for.
14. Nice work Kev, I love each time I visit your thread I learn more!
15. while looking up some images to compare vr6 and non vr6 bj's I came across this, the two crude paint shop images are similar to the ideas I was mulling over. Not sure if it's because it's the end of the week and Im tired but the thread basically said that both ideas are poo poo. But wouldnt that also mean that the BJE are of no use? Im confused and tired, someone clarify please .. http://forums.vwvortex.com/showthread.php?4420432-VR6-Ball-joint-control-arm-angle-discussion...
16. its likely as you say an they may have cross threaded the mounting bolt/nut so and tapped it out (all the away up, including through the untapped section of the nut). They would then use a longer bolts. I wouldnt worry too much, plenty of penetration fluid and an extension bar should do it, just take your time. if the worse comes to it, the captive nut can be got at via the footwell for repair or replacement.
17. err, classified sectin has some http://the-corrado.net/classifieds.php?do=viewitem&itemid=215
18. Yes, same lines as BJE. Jay had started a thread to find a BJE for VR6 hub's but it drew a dead end (well the thread did anyway http://the-corrado.net/showthread.php?58430-Lower-Ball-Joint-Extension-Re-positioning) this thread is an investigation into the hubs themselfs. From what I'm understanding, there are no BJE for the VR6 ball joints and due the the BJ design, one cant be made is a safe manner. These ... ..wont work on a VR6 setup. If you know otherwise, Im very keen to know. Otherwise a recast hub, or a cut/shut hub are the only other options aware to me. Quick question, will a non vr6 ball joint fit a vr6 wishbone? If so. maybe a modified version of the non vr6 BJE could be manufactured to transition from the non vr6 BJ to the VR6 hub.
19. I think H2 make a new cast version, I dont like the idea of the cut and shut method. I'm looking for a neat solution.
