Welcome to the forum... 8) What Supercharged is trying to say is that, unlike in a text message, there is not a small character limit on messages on the forum. This means you can actually type a proper message, rather than something like which, to be honest, makes almost sod all sense... "Has anyone get a VR6 lump for sale?" is only a few more key strokes, and makes peoples life a lot easier trying to read your message.... ;)

I'd simply ask him for a break down on the cost with a confused look on your face... you'll soon be able tell if he's trying to pull a fast one, or has genuinely screwed something up.... ;) I nearly got screwed over by a stealer in Leek a few years ago who tried to charge me £565 for a service on an (old) X reg Golf 1.5 auto... the car was only worth £500! when I asked for a breakdown of costs, the guy kinda stopped, thought about it for a moment, and then said "seeing as you're a regular customer, I'll give you a discount...." and knocked 50% off... :| It was the first and only time I've been to that garage... If he tells you it's correct, you can simply tell him that you're gonna get trading standards in to investigate, 'cos there's no way on this planet that it's gonna take 10 hours at £35/hour to fit/do what you've stated above... Even at dealer prices of £60/hour, that's nearly 8 hours labour! Front pads + disks = 1hour (absolute top, and that's with all bolts being a git) Rear pads = 1 hour top (with the allen key bolts playing hell - if all else failed, they should have known to use some heat and replace the bolts!) Rear calipers = 20 mins if you're already doing the pads Rear bearings = 1 hour TOP (and that's only if they're being a sod to remove from the old disks, it should take 30 mins top if they're new disks) So that's 3.5 hours (being generous) to do all except the front bushes... If they're telling you they spent the best part of 7 hours on doing 1 bush succesfully, and couldn't do the other one "because the sump got in the way" then I'd REALLY never take any business their way again... :| Sorry, but I've worked on cars older than I am that hadn't been serviced since before I was born, and we couldn't charge more "because a bolt wouldn't undo".... They are taking the p!$$, tell them so, and see what happens... 8)

The stupid lump of metal is to make the throttle more progressive and smooth (if you're on about a lump on the spindle of the butterfly...)
-
I just zero the trip counter every time I fill up... I then know that I've got around 360 miles until I need to get some more petrol, or about 380 until I REALLY need some! ;)

YAY! I love a happy ending... 8)

having stripped out the headlining on mine, and run some new wires into the tailgate, I can't say that I saw any multiplugs which would allow the removal of the tailgate without cutting the wiring... :?
-
now THAT is a paint finish... 8) Lovely! I can't wait to see this car when it's done... :D
-
there's been a couple of people who have had problems with the multi plug which connects to the bottom of the pump... if this has a dodgy contact in it, it'll throw the code you have... Also check the multiplug on the ABS brain (beind the carpet on the passenger front wheel arch) as this would do the same... 8)

press the "print screen" button, then go into your photo editor (or paint) and "paste as new image" 8)

temp gauge light also is a water level warning.... try topping up the coolant so that it's between the 2 marks on the expansion tank and this'll almost certainly cure this one... 8) The clutch problem sounds like you either need to bleed the clutch slave cylinder (it's a hydraulic system - no cable to adjust) or you may need to replace the slave cylinder if this doesn't work... :? Not expensive, or difficult to do... 8) Oh, and welcome to the forum... 8)

have a look at the Jaguar superchargers... a little birdy told me that they are around £400 BRAND NEW from Jag, put out some nice boost and are pretty compact... Pretty sure they are Eton style chargers too... 8)
-
I've seen 'em do similar at drag strips where they fire a CO2 fire extinguisher into the intercooler just before a run... this freezes up the intercooler allowing the boost to be cooled much more and thus be much more dense for the run down the strip... I wouldn't fire CO2 INto your manifold though, it'll stop the engine from running properly as it won't burn and replaces the oxygen which would normally get in there... (hence why they use it in fire extinguishers! ;) )

nope, I'm running a normal tensioner at the moment. What you do is to replace the 2 plastic idler wheels on the tensioner arm with cambelt tensioners, this allows you to adjust the tension on the belt by turning these (as you'd tension up a cambelt!) as well as making sure that the belt runs true due to the cambelt tensioners having a lip at each side.... 8) I am going to replace the normal tensioner with a fixed, adjustable length rod though as it just looks neater and will allow me to work on things that little bit easier due to not having to fight with the spring in the normal tensioner... 8)

A long extension on your ratchet, a wiggle-woggle joint (universal joint) and plenty of swearing is how I've always done it... ;) I think it was Bananaman who said that you can take off the big rubber block at the back of the engine bay by undoing the 2 bolts, and that eases access somewhat, but I've not tried that... Good luck! 8)

Well, I've got the MKI Golf GTI, I've had the Type 2, and I've got a VR6 Killer G60 Corrado and don't fancy a MKI convertable too much due to the hairdresser image it still has, but I'd still kill for a nice Splitty like some of the ones at All Types... 8) I know what you are saying though.... I've not seen a VW that got my pulse going since the motorshow 6 years ago where they had the W12 sports car prototype on show... Now that WAS a nice looking car, with the performance to match... :D 8)

Jim, I think you'll find my name was one of the first on the list for the CF rolling road session! ;) :D I've just told work today that they can shove the outside broadcast they want me to do that day as far up their..... (you get the idea! ;) ) I'm as interested to see what she's putting out in comparison to other cars as some of the rest of you.... I have no figures at the moment due to the fault on the rollers in Runcorn, but I know that she's fuelling correcly, and is timed up spot on, so I don't really care about the numbers, I just know that she feels sodding quick! :D 8) We shall see at Stealth what the numbers say... Although there's a couple of events that I'm aiming to be doing before then which may give indications to if she's as quick as she feels or not... ;) :D dr_mat, yup, ain't forced induction ace... ;) :D and cheers for the nice comment... 8) I just need to rig up the lights behind the LCDs to come on with the ignition so that I can see them in direct sunlight and I'll be really happy with it... :) Rodders, the run back from Runcorn and then to and from work today have made it ALL worth it.... from now on is just a bonus to me... the fact that I'm STILL grinning like a loon will probably let you know how much I am enjoying the car now.... Just need to avoid speed cameras and I'll stay happy! ;) Joe_M, the Quaife seems to be really good so far... I'm still edging my way up to properly hammering it as I don't want to loose it and wrap it around a lamppost! ;) :? but it does feel VERY positive so far, and taking off in a hurry from standstill ;) is definately improved by the diff limiting the wheelspin... :D The second gear mod is great too, I overtook a lorry on the way home from the rollers in second and hit 60 before I knew what the hell was going on and had to change gear... before it would have been half way past the lorry at around 45 when I had to hit the next gear! :D Phat, Thanks mate, your help with the box is most appreciated and has made a massive difference to the car... :D 8) Storm, yeah, I know what you mean about the bumper... some days I really like it, others I'm not so sure... I think I'm gonna stick an original bumper back on this weekend and see if it makes much difference in running temps and the like and if I prefer it or not... We'll see, but I do agree with the side skirts comments.... that's not what I want my car to look like, it's not my style... :)

if one of your wheel sensors has completely died (ie open circuit or no resistance) then this would cause the same kinda fault you report... however, if you interrogated the ABS brain, it would tell you that the sensor was dead, not the pump... :? Got me well stumped matey... :|
-
there's a grommet in the passenger side footwell which goes into the engine bay under the ABS pump. Punch a hole through that, pull your cable through it, then re-seal it with some silicone sealant.... ;) Job done... 8)

yeah, I've even got a car that works properly!

It's only the later cars that have the sunroof control as standard... 1.8 16Vs or G60s won't have it... :( Wish mine did, that'd be sooo cool having the moonroof auto close with the windows... 8)

Some work's gone into that interior recently hasn't it... 8) Looking good Grim... :D

take the stereo out, and cut the blue/white wire that's in the wires behind the stereo... This is the speed sensor wire and the odds are that some muppet has wired it onto the power out terminal on the back of the stereo... If that doesn't work, try a search for spoiler and you'll get LOTS of different answers about it 'cos it's not an uncommon fault... ;) *edit* Or, Alternatively, you could wait for someone to beat me to it and quote me from another thread! ;) 8)

as Supercharged, says, do a search for ISV... these are classic symptoms of it... ;)

Looks nice and neat.... 8)

Well, here's a quick update... I spent yesterday at a Rolling road in Runcorn with Wayne Schofield of Chipwizards... My face now hurts from grinning like a loon after driving the car home and on the way to work today... :D :D :D To say that this has made a difference would be the understatement of the year, it's totally transformed the car. I can now confirm that the gearbox mods I've had done DO allow for a touch over 60mph in second and that the second -> third change under heavy acceleration hits 3rd gear slap bang in the middle of the power range and gives a lovely kick! Oh, and I DO have to take the front bumper off to get it onto the rollers...  To be honest, it's not so much of a kick, as what the effect of shoving a sidewinder missile up your backside and pressing the fire button would be! To say I'm happy wouldn't even give you a tenth of an idea of how I feel at the moment... :D 8) Unfortunatly, I have no BHP or Torque figures as the computer system for the rolling road that the car was mapped on is damaged and so isn't calibrated and can't be linked into the RPM of the car which stops you getting real numbers out of it... :( However, the torque and BHP curves on the screen (from the wheels) looked amazing! the torque curve is pretty much flat from just over idle all the way to redline and beyond, which scared me when he took it OFF the revcounter! Bring on some rolling road, track and strip sessions, and lets see what this baby can do... :) 8)
