  1. Looking good matey... 8) Another one to add to the list of those which have been corner weighted... 'tain't cheap, but, by God, doesn't it make a difference... 8) :D G-Lader, Corner weighting is where the car is put onto 4 sets of scales so that the weight on each wheel can be matched by adjusting the ride height of the coil-overs... It's always set 50% left to right, (often with the driver sat in the car!) but can be altered front to back so that you get the perfect balance on the suspension... I'm pretty sure mine is set 60/40 front to rear (although it was nearly a year ago I had this done, so my memory of it is a little fuzzy...) A rear wheel drive car normally has 50/50 front and rear which is the optimum, but opinions vary as to which is the best setup for a front wheel drive...

    Heater/fan

I reckon it's new fan time... :? Quick check though, take off the lower dash shelf on the passenger side (about 6 screws) and then you can see the fan behind where the shelf was... undo the multiplug and check for voltage between the brown (earth) and other wires... the voltage should move around the other 4 pins as you move the switch's position with the ignition on... If you have voltage there and it moves pins with the switch, it's new fan time... if it doesn't move with the switch, it's new switch time... 8)

    More problems

D'OH! I take it you're a happy bunny again and the car is working properly again? 8)
  4. I'd also change the Blue temp sensor... they're around £7 from Euro or GSF... The black one you've already changed just does the temp gauge on the dash... A good quick test is to swap the blue and black plugs over, if your water temp gauge then stops working properly and the car starts running OK, then this shows that teh blue sensor is definately dead... It's also worth checking the vacuum hoses which come off the back of the throttle body... if one of those has come loose or become damaged, then the ECU won't know what the hell is going on and your car will run like a dog... :|
  5. I did a moonroof conversion on mine in under 90 mins, does that count?!? ;) 8)
  6. there's a multiplug on the chassis leg which connects to the wiring to the indicator... check for voltage there too, and also check for voltage between the battery -ve terminal and the non-brown wire on the indicator itself, rather than across the 2 terminals.... ;) I'd bet it's a broken wire, probably an earth, that's causing this...
  7. Cool, I'll remind you Tom, but I may also.......
  8. yup... 8) every damn penny I've spent on my C was made all worth while last weekend when the sun came out and I went on a blast around the Buxton hills... 8) :D Just gotta get the paint and the chip done, and then it'll just be repairs to keep on top of cost wise... 8) (yeah, Like I'm ever gonna stop modding her... ;) :| )

  10. only thing on my brakes that smokes is my tyres when the ABS decides it doesn't want to play and one wheel locks up... :? I had the FRONT disks on my old MKII Gti glowing though, and the pads were proper smoking too... not good... :? that's what happens when you have to try to do several heavy stops coming back towards Leek from Buxton followed by an all out 120mph emergency stop... :|
  11. missed that bit about the fault code... :? I was probably sleep typing again...  ;) I can't help past that... sorry...
  12. yup, the 5 cylinder's one has slightly larger butterflies IIRC.... but there's practically sod all in it to be honest, so there's not a lot of point on a 16V... Try and get a Weber single butterfly one... there's LOTS of difference then! ;) 8)
  13. ...and didn't I point out that you needed G60 disks?!? ;)
  14. I'm pretty sure my MKI golf was in a couple of mags in the late 80's... :? It was one of the very first Golf MKI 16V conversions done.... Bolton Golf Center did it around '86 (according to some people I've met) and it has a LOT of history from there on in... :? I've never seen any articles with it in, but it's a black MKI golf GTI with a full SQUARE wheel arch body kit on it and a 16V engine, seibring exhaust, zender 3 piece rear spoiler and a load of other stuff on it when it was in the mags... ...now it's a bare shell which will hopefully hit the mags some time late next year... ;) 8)
  15. I'll chop a few bits outta my local pub... that's nearly 600 years old and should have some good timber for a shelf in it somewhere... ;)
  16. I replaced ALL of my hoses (including the metal ones) with VAG items after getting REALLY hacked off waiting for Samco to get their arse in gear and tell me if they could do my custom (oil cooler bypass G60) pipe kit.... I told 'em to go and shove it in the end 'cos I don't care if it'll last a few more years.... VAG stuff still lasts 10 years and 236K miles+ in my case! :D 8) When they get there arses in gear and start dealing with their customers properly, I'll start dealing with, and recommending, them.... until then, I'd rather shove wasps.... ;)
  17. It's also worth noting that there is a mark on THE OTHER side of the cam gear which should line up with the top face of the front of the head when at TDC No.1..... you need to take the rocker cover off to see it, but this should clear up any chance of mis-alignment... 8)
  18. Plenty of WD40/DuckOil and a small cooking blow torch are the only ways I've found of freeing the sodding things off when they don't want to play.... :? Good luck! 8)
  19. If ALL 4 of the sensors read about the same resistance, check your rear ABS cages... after a while they rust and stop sending the correct signals which sets the light on as the ABS has no idea what your rear wheels are doing... :? The rear cages are about £10 per side including the mounting rings you need for them... ;) to change 'em it's a case of taking the rear disks off, and they then mount into the rear of the disk... 8) (guess who's got the same ABS fault and has just found a new set of ABS cages in his garage indicating he never got around to changing 'em last time this happened...  )
  20. Not entirely true... "it's a by-product of the design that it lets you know that a bulb has gone by flashing twice as fast... " is more accurate...;) (VW's been using the same indicator relay setup since the Beetle! ) Sorry, just got back from the pub and had to point that out.... ;)
  21. sheesh, that's LOW... :? Wheels look OK though... 8)
  22. Just out of interest, what's the surface area of this intercooler mod compared with either a Golf G60, or a Golf Rallye intercooler? :? It looks lots longer, but nowhere near as deep as the Golf versions... :?
  23. yup.... half the resistance (or nearly) causes the relay to go twice as fast... 8)
  24. either that, or they're on about the parcel shelf?!? :?
