Just seen this advert on tv for car insurance !
Henny replied to BigTartanJudge's topic in General Car Chat
it tends to be (statistically) that when a woman has an car accident it tends to be a lesser payout cost than when a man has an accident... Hence them being less expensive to insure... The actual NUMBER of accidents is pretty much the same be it a male or a female driver... (our news team did a load of research on this not long ago... 8) ) -
best source for lambda probe - mine seems to be giving only

H8RRA, get yourself an LM1 wideband system, it'll interface with the normal ECU as it has a 1V output too, but you can then use it with your new 5V ECU in the future... ;) -
the GAP between the dots should line up with that sharp edge... IIRC there's also a dot on the back of the gear which should line up with it too, but I could be mis-remembering that... :| The odds are that yours is right... Take out the king lead from the dizzy and turn the engine over on the starter for a couple of complete revolutions, then get it back to TDC (turning from the crank, not the cam and only the correct way to keep the tension on the cambelt correct!) and check that it's still as it now is... If it's that close, it's only either gonna be spot on or one tooth out which won't damage anything if you turn it over carefully to check it... I ran my car for 2 months with it a tooth out on the cam (including a rolling road session and a track day at Curborough!  ) so you ain't gonna damage anything checking it in this way... 8)

Son of a Beesting, see g60daves reason above... the numptys in their sheddy old cars see the Corrado as a nice car that's more likely to be stolen/broken into for a nice stereo than their car, so they park next to you in the hope that someone will break into your Corrado rather than their shed... Anyone say Catch 22?

thank crunchy for that, I was starting to think I was going insane... :silly:

simple one: Check your tyre pressures... ;)

I thought that knock sensors normally attached to the block, not the head? :?

yup, that's exactly what mine was doing when my switch went on J-DUB Gav... Turn the key to ignition so that it's all ready to run, but don't turn it to start. Make sure the car is out of gear Connect a THICK wire to the spade terminal on the starter solenoid and touch the other end to the +ve on the battery to "trick" the car into starting (basically a partial hot wire) If this works and the car starts, then you have a dodgy ignition switch... ;) Good luck!

trev-b, how did you get it back in tolerance?

Ah, OLD SKOOL Landy bodyworking... ;)
-
yup, she's fully de-badged, de-wiper'd and de-side trimmed... 8) Oh, and I got a spare spoiler painted up at the same time as the respray just in case this didn't work and looked crap... Just glad it worked as I've been on about doing this for nearly 2 years now...
-
yeah, I managed to mess up the timing on J-DUB just before the last stealth rolling road session so I was running a tooth out... they're a sod, plain and simple...
-
It's got 25x 5mm holes with 5mm gaps between them all... there's then a 12,000mcd red LED with individual resistor mounted through the spoiler in each hole and the wires run along the back of the spoiler and drop down through the drain hole in the mechanism... I've not touched it since E38 where I finally got time to fit it and it's still working perfectly... which suprises me as the wiring was a bit dodgy having been bodged in in a field!   The holes have to be drilled at a VERY specific angle in relation to the top face of the spoiler to make sure that they can be seen in both the up and down positions (and in between!). I got a local engineering shop to drill the holes for me on their computer controlled drill bed so that the holes are perfectly in line and perfectly spaced... 8)

In the almost 13 years I've had my licence, I've averaged over 25K miles per year. I was also a delivery driver for one summer while at uni where I racked up a silly amount of milage, so I reckon I'm not far off half a million miles driven so far... In all of that, I've only had 3 punctures and 2 of those weren't in my cars! I don't see the point in carrying a spare anymore so I just carry a can of tyre foam and my AA card with me... The space saver my car came with won't fit over the Brembo brakes anyway so I'd have to swap wheels in all directions if I ever got a flat front tyre so I just don't bother now... When I do jack up my car, I ALWAYS use a trolley jack as I just don't trust scissor jacks... :|

RW1, ah, that clears that up nicely then... Cheers... 8) :notworthy: *wonders if anyone else can ever get access to RW1s secret library* ;)

High level brake lights? :? How about variable level brake lights? ;)

Red Corrado with RED VW badge on the M60 clockwise by Trafford Park at 9:30 this morning... I was pulling off into Trafford Park as you whizzed past... ;) Anyone here? 8) -
8) very nice.... 8)

10 head bolts - true £8 per bolt - VERY false... ;) Get 'em from ECP or GSF and they're half that... (unless you have a Rallye (1H) engine in which case they're £7 each from VW... :( )
-
RW1, are you sure about this? My '91 G60 definately has narrower wings than my '92 G60 'cos the wheels off my '92 wouldn't clear the arches on the '91... :|

Audi 80 IIRC... ;)

G60 X-flow - Anyone completed one of these yet ?
