I can help you here 'cos mine's just gone too... The reason you haven't got damp carpets yet is 'cos the heater bypass safety valves have cut in and are re-routing the coolant from the matrix back into the engine... they let just enough through to steam up the windscreen when it initially goes without throwing scalding hot water all over the driver and passengers feet (which is jolly nice don't you think? ). When the pressure in the coolant system drops, the valves will open again and I'll bet if you check under the carpet it's wet, and give it a couple of days and the carpet itself will be wet too... Parts: Goto GSF and the matrix is about £40. How-to: Good question, it's not in the knowledge base yet, but I know someone's posted up a pretty good how to based on the VW guidelines on how to do it... I'll be writing one including any shortcuts I find as I go along as I do mine, but that won't be for a week or so yet (and probably a few more before Dinkus posts it up   ) It DOES involve removing the complete dashboard though, so it's not a 10 minute job... :( However: before you write off your matrix, check that the expansion tank isn't steaming... the cabin fan's fresh air feed is right next to the expansion tank, so if the car was overheating it's possible that it just pulled in the steam coming from the expansion tank and blew that up the screen giving you the smell of antifreeze...

cool, doesn't seem to be a problem then... Thanks for clearing that up H8RRA... 8)
  3. could simply be the top mounts or the rack mounts then... Try the same trick as before with the handbrake, but in reverse as this will show up dead rear/gearbox mounts too... ;)
  4. hey, don't appologise, I'm flattered! 8) Good luck!
  5. davidwort, true, but you can now buy aftermarket wishbone suspension for them which finally allows them to go around corners like they should do... That huge rubber cone suspension mount thing they came with is just plain NASTY and was the main reason I didn't buy a G40... :pukeright:
  6. where can you feel/see the movement? If it's through the steering it could well be a dead rack mount... :?:
  7. Hang on gsbellew... Let's go back and look at the first post here... I don't care what the gearing is setup for, you physically can't get it there in a standard G40, where I've sat at 125 cruising in a standard G60 Corrado, so I'll stick with... Just for info though, the G60 Corrado is geared for a theoretical top speed in excess of 160mph... coolrado Yup, that's one of the limiting factors on the G60 engine... The G60 charger was pretty much as big as the engineering practices and materials available at the time would allow it to be. There are rumours that there's a company still making G-laders and that they're now making G80 and G120 chargers, but I've yet to see any evidence behind this... At the end of the day, if you put a G60 engine into a car the same weight as a G40 polo without fettling either engine, the G60 powered car would crap all over the polo. Fettle them both the same amount, and again, the G60 would win... Have a look at a torque curve from a G40 and a G60 engine and ignore the BHP figures, that'll tell you why they bothered making a G60 engine in the first place... 8)
  8. h100vw, that's the way I was thinking too... If sticking with K-Jet, I'd probably go for either an RS turbo or Porsche 924 metering head too as IIRC they're set up to cope with more airflow through them than the KR's one... Otherwise, Mega squirt management (nice and cheap and easy to mess with/setup) with some modified injector seats and electronic injectors and an inlet tract setup similar to a G60s would be the way I'd go... 8)
  9. Riley, I'm not the g60meister, I'd say that's Daz's title with him working on 'em day in, day out! :notworthy: It helps that I'm an engineering graduate and I've been messing around with VWs for almost half my life, but mostly I've just picked up info and experience of the G60 over the last 3 years I've had J-DUB, mainly through all of the problems I've had with her and from spending FAR too much time on this forum and at shows/meets talking to people like G-Man, 16VG60, H100VW, Gibber and others! 8)
  10. JT-G60, It's not normal for them to shear bolts off as Chris VR6nos, says, so it probably wasn't tightened properly when first installed... as to the end bit of what Chris says, however, I'm afraid I disagree... ...the front crossbeam/subframe is mounted on rubber bushes... As long as these are in reasonable condition then there IS still some flex left in the mounting at the front of the engine. and so running a solid mount shouldn't damage/tear anything else... I've been running a solid front mount for a few months now with no problems whatsoever... If you've seen some of the aftermarket poly mounts, you'll realise that they've got sod all movement in them anyway! If anyone remembers how much J-DUB's engine threw itself around in the engine bay while at the Stealth roller session last year, then they'll know that normal mounts just aren't all that good for a tuned/tweaked/messed with engine.
  11. hang on guys, flusted's on about charging a car which currently doesn't have a charger! he doesn't care what kinda boost a G40 G60 or bigger Eton will produce as ANY boost that the charger makes should have a positive effect as long as the charger doesn't rob too much power to drive it... 8) flusted, with a K-JET you'll need to treat it the same as supercharging a Carb'd car... the boost from the supercharger will need to be fed through the metering flap to get the fuelling anywhere near correct. Thinking about this quickly, the way I'd probably set this up is something like this: Air filter -> Supercharger -> G60 throttlebody (with waste gate venting to atmosphere) -> K-Jet metering flap -> inlet manifold -> big smile! That way you control the throttle BEFORE the metering flap meaning that any boost that's wasted doesn't affect the amount of fuel the flap sends into the engine. If you kept the throttle in the stock position with the G60 style waste valve on it then you'd permanently be running rich as the air going through the metering flap would also include the air being vented to atmosphere... Does that make sense, or have I just thought up a load of crap?!?

    Revs disappear?

take off the fuse box inspection cover and make sure all of the plugs on the back of the fuse box are fully plugged in... sounds like a loose connection to me... ;)

Thinking about this last night, the only problem I can forsee is with late spec cars trying to fit the passat moonroof. The bit where the motor mounts is different on the early cars and I don't know if you need to adapt the passat mechanism to get the late motor to seat properly or not, both of the ones I've done have been G60s... Anyone know if you do need to modify anything in a late interior car or not?
  14. there's 3 types of slam panels as Phil K, mentions... Early - 2 holes under the grill Intermediate - 3 holes under the grill Late - 3 holes under the grill The FK grill will fit the intermediate and late slam panels with no modifications to either. To fit the early one, you need to either enlarge the holes in the bottom of the slam panel with something like a dremel, or cut the lugs off the grill and re-fix them a bit closer to the center to get 'em to line up with the holes in the slam panel...
  15. misbah1977, dash are 4", doors are 5.25" and rears are 6"x4" as standard... The original door speakers had quite a large mounting face on 'em IIRC and so measure at about 5" as you say, but 5.25" will fit in there... 8) I got some MB Quart components off Ebay delivered for £40 and they're excellent. I've got those in the front and an infinity Bass Link in the boot and it has a very nice sound to it...
  16. Polo Classic, join the club...
  17. ah, Jay, that's a real bummer about the Taxi... but at least it sounds like it's gonna come out better in the end... 8)
  18. You've already got 3 excellent people who have helped and taught me stuff about G60s helping you in this thread. Hell, Daz has forgotten more about G60s than I know... 8) Sounds reasonable It's one to keep in mind then, looks can be deceiving... ;) No problems, just lemme know... 8)
  19. OK, I've only just seen this thread due to being away/ill when it all started... Having just read it all here's my thoughts: 1) Get the engine back into one piece, if it runs or not doesn't matter, as long as it's mechanically back in one piece then that's fine. From that point, it's GOT to be simple to fix as there's only a few things it can be now that you've had the valves sorted (which, incidentally, I don't think was your problem) 2) Where did you get the Throttle to ECU pipe you fitted from? It's not just the length that's important, the inner diameter is equally important and it MUST be able to take vacuum without collapsing else you'll get problems almost exactly as you describe... 3) DO NOT CHANGE ANYTHING ELSE! The more things you change the harder it becomes to work out what the initial fault was... 4) Timing and Map sensor/other sensors - If you'd like, I have 2 G60s, one in bits with a standard ECU just sat there doing nothing and one in H-YYU with an aftermarket chip in the ECU. I also have a rather nice digital advance timing light. I'm pretty local to you, so when it's back in one piece, call me (phone number PM'd to you) and I'll pop up and we'll give it a go... I don't want anything in return, I'll be happy that I've helped someone get a Corrado running again - Hell, that's why I post up on here in the first place! Contact me if any of that sounds good...
  20. Welcome to The Forum... 8) Ignore your neighbour, he obviously has no taste... Or, ask him what major motoring journalists have said about his car... nothing 'cos they're no-descript and boring... then smile and mention that at least 4 major UK motoring publications have labelled the Corrado as a Classic car and as the 90's BEST coupe... 8)

I've got moonroofs in BOTH of my corrados... the one in H-YYU is out of a passat saloon and the one in J-DUB is out of a Passat estate. The one in J-DUB sits more flush to the roof than the saloon one, but both just bolted straight into the respective Corrado with no problems at all... no need to mess about lining it up, just slot it in, put the bolts in and off they both went with their tilt and slide actions... 8) The estate one I paid £20 for and removed myself, the saloon one I got off a breakers yard shelf so paid £50 for (and then managed to break one of the rocker arms off while cleaning it...  )
  22. here, I think you missed this C... ;) Interesting little run around that... 8)
  23. Welcome to The Forum 6n16v... Try taking an engine based on a G40 block upto 250ish BHP with some sort of reliability and your argument starts to fall over... You're also missing a fundamental piece of thinking in your statements: The Polo G40 was designed as a hot hatch, the G60 was a marketed as a luxury sports coupe in Corrado form and "one up on a GTI" in Golf form, the Passat was a 4x4 estate so doesn't really qualify for your arguement... However, what I'm saying is that they're totally different markets with totally different requirements... For the G40 to do 125MPH you'd be screaming the nuts off it... in a STANDARD G60 that's a nice cruising speed... The G60 (in all flavours) was a luxury beast, usually with 'leccy windows, sunroof, leccy mirrors etc etc etc. The G40 just didn't have that level of trim to it, and so benefitted from the lack of weight that those toys add... I know that G40s are a LOT of fun (I very nearly bought one instead of J-DUB), but I'd rather be seen and rather drive a G60 Corrado from the comfort and looks point of view if I was going for a supercharged VW... 8) ...and I KNOW which I'd rather be in at high speeds if there were ANY thought of an accident... :?
