From previous experience of attempting to undo that bolt and not actually needing to all I can do is agree and suggest that an air ratchet is used.

Mine buzzes.....
-
You'll see mine parked in the leisure centre car park every other Thursday as i go climbing there!!

Indeed there is, it's the black cylindrical thing on the right had side of the head with a couple of pipes and an electrical plug on it. its common(ish) for causing issues on the valvers. take it off and give it a good soak with carb cleaner!
-
As far as i'm aware this doesn't help for a valver. the intermediate shaft just runs the oil pump so it doesn't need to be lined up with anything, therefore i believe that there isn't a mark on the crank pulley. get a mate to look onto the flywheel as you crank the engine round slowly....the mark is there somewhere!
-
Well with a 16v you'd really notice if the timing was out, does it sound normal at idle? as for timing marks (as you probably know) there is a mark on the cam cover and one on the cam sprocket, these need to line up. on the flywheel you'll have a dot on the stationary bit with a line somewhere on the fly (or the other way round). What i'd do is to get the cam marks lined up by cranking the engine using a long bar and a good quality socket on the star shaped bolt on the crankshaft pulley, then have a look on the flywheel. remember that 2 rotations of the cam = 1 rotation of the flywheel so it is possible to be 180* out.

It 'should' be as simple as that, but it is a corrado!

help from all self installed 1.8t only a small problem
nocrap replied to corrado1.8t's topic in Engine Bay
Are you still using the 1.8 KR block? if so there is a sender on the right hand side to the right of the coolant flange, replace this with one from http://www.vwspares.co.uk (1 pin black) and see if that solves your problem! -
what about these? http://www.the-corrado.net/.archive/forum/viewtopic.php?f=13&t=61963
-
certainly yellow and something......possibly red
-
Awsome! The cameraman must be tiny!
-
Hello matey, the sender that you want to investigate is on the right side of the block and to the lower right of the water outlet....i think if you earth that contact the guage should rise (could be wrong on that one though). You can buy them for only a couple of quid from http://www.vwspares.co.uk, you need the 'one pin black' one.
-
And you wont have any luck anywhere else either because there isn't one! You need to use the Bently manual that covers the G60 and the VR.
-
The one i got from VW spares also had a metal one, unfortunately it leaked like a bastard!
-
I'd say power steering pump...but from what i remember of mine, that looks different......also the bently manual will be no good for that engine, you need the mk2 golf one
-
So you're not even able to hammer the Allen key socket into it or a very small spline socket over it?
-
No good though if your car has the standard immobilizer
