I remember reading something about VW getting the french design. I was just wondering that, due to the price of a new/2nd hand G-Lader would it be cheaper to get a Merc eaton from a 230K and get it to fit? I'm not planning on doing but I just thought it would be something to keep in mind??

How come VW G-Laders always go for a lot more money, than the ones on Mini Cooper S's and Merc Kompressor's??? Cheers RACK

Over-revving on gear change (and now tighten throttle cable)
RACK replied to Jim's topic in Engine Bay
Yeah mate that's it. Here's a step by step guide what Henny did for me: "take off the lower dash shelf (drivers side ) and then get your head in down there... You'll see the cable on the left hand side of the pedal cluster - (YES, I DO mean left side! ) Unhook it and push it up a little bit. In the engine bay, un clip the cable from the throttle, and feed it back. Now pull the cable from the cabin into the scuttle panel area and then through the bulkhead into the engine bay... You should now have the old cable out... Re-fitting is the reverse of removal [/haynes] Just remember to make sure the grommets are all seated properly else you'll get water coming in next time it rains! Should take no more than 15 minutes to do it and only requires a screwdriver to undo the lower dash and a torch to see what you're doing down by the pedals..." Hope this helps. One point though, make sure the stealer gives you the correct cable. The one I went to gave me one for a VR6. The G60 one has a hook on one end. -
Over-revving on gear change (and now tighten throttle cable)

Mine was doing this on and off for months. It turned out the be the throttle cable, for £20 and about 15mins fitting it's worth trying. -
I'll have a look on the TT forum in a bit. I keep winding him up asking if he's gonna join So Solid Crew!!! Cheers for the replies RACK

What's the best way to de-coke?

My younger brother is gonna buy a TT in the next few weeks, (little barstewerd he's only 21) I just wondered if there's any major points to look out for when buying one? Thanks RACK

crash, bang, wallop....S3 in for repairs!!
RACK replied to jedi-knight83's topic in General Car Chat
You should hunt the lorry driver down!!! Well after he's paid for your S3 to be fixed. Sorry to see that. -
Right, I've managed to get the head (complete with in-let & exhaust manifolds, throttle bodie, looks like an uprated cam, green injectors and rail) for a nice tidy price. I stipped bits of it on sat night before I went out (mom wasn't too pleased as I did it on the kitchen floor). I'm now left with all these bit seperated. I'm gonna flow the inlet and throttle bodie tommorow, but need a bit of advice on how best to strip the head, anyone got any tips? ie getting the valves out? I've not really done anything like this before. P.S. Might have an uprated cam, Ported throttle bodie and in-let manifold for sale and a set of green inectors pretty soon if anyone is interested?

I'll let you all know when I get round to putting it on. Although a lot of people have slated powerflow systems, the one on mine is well made and sounds good. I've only bought this one for a change. As soon as it's on I'll give my honest opion. Thanks for the input so far

I bought myself a camshaft & adjustable cam pulley...
RACK replied to Dennis.be's topic in Engine Bay
You would probably get between 8-12bhp from the cam, but it will move the powerband higher up the rev range. -
When you say it's an early Milltek does this mean I'll have a problem fitting it to my '92 C? I was underneath mine yesterday and the mounting points all look the same.
-
Yeah, that's the one, cheers mate.

Looks like the link isn't working, give me a sec.

I've just managed to win this on ebay, god that thing is addictive!! http://cgi.ebay.co.uk/ws/eBayISAPI.dllV ... 4525261384 What's anyone think? P.S. I might have a full powerflow system for sale soon

Are all the tappets, vavle guides etc.. the same in the rallye head as in the C?
-
Nice one, It's still gonna be the PG block (with 83mm forged pistons). I just thought if I can get a head and re-build it, it will save my mate some time while he re-builds the bottom end, and it should save me a bit of cash, not that I'm tight you understand. Also gonna have a go at porting the throttlebodie and inlet.
-
I've just bought a set of head bolts and a head gasket for the C, so will I have to get the relavent head bolts and gasket for the rallye head or will they be ok?
-
Henny, what would I do without you?? Cheers mate I've got chance to get one for cheap, so I'm gonna fetch it into work, clean it all up and get someone in the machine shop to port it all. Then pop the newman268 cam in it ready for when the engine gets built. Thanks

Is the Cylinder Head from a Rallye the same as on the Corrado? Thanks RACK

As much as I love the G60, I'd sell it for an Escort Cosworth! I always wanted one, but after seeing Getaway in Stockholme2 I really really wanted one!
-
Golf G60 Intercooler! It's expensive but worth every penny, the engine pulls so much smoother than before. Also agree with the oil cooler!
-
Too true. Keep the VR above 3.5K and that engine sooo sounds mean! It's the same with the G60, keep the charger howling and your smile just gets bigger and bigger!
-
I'll have to try and find a CVR6 to see. It's when I see the argumants about G60's and VR's. My honest opinion is that you can't really compare the two, they both have awesome engine notes and pulling power but in so many different ways!
