  1. Good lord you've got this looking mighty fine these days. Keep up the good work Goldie. :)
  2. Yup, fallen foul of this too & am still paying for those daft decisions. I too shelled out a fortune on a french car (206 GTI), then sold it 18 months later for about half the price I'd paid for it. All because I tried to keep up with some mates who had faster cars. Currently looking to get something cheap to run as a daily drive, as I agree, it's now getting to old to be run daily & the last thing I want is to run the raddo into the ground :(
  3. Not today, but at the weekend I had the less than enjoyable task of replacing the waterpump! In my naivity, I thought it might be a fairly quick job!! Once I'd realised I hadn't actually undone the rear mount and only the plate ontop, I actually got somewhere!!! Managed to get it replaced ok in the end but had an absolute nightmare trying to line up the damn engine mounts again, the front one being the worst culprit! Most annoying thing is I'm going to have to repace the front mount at some point in the not too distant future! Anyway, well chuffed with myself, I took it out for a spin to check all was well, got back & went to top up the coolant & the bonnet cable snapped on me! Aaarrgggghhhh... Went to the stealers yesterday & ordered a new cable at a mere £30, so will now have the task of attempting to break into my own bonnet at the weekend!! :(
  4. Shame to see this great example go into hiding, though with all the time, money & effort you've put into this I don't blame you! :) If I can get mine looking even half as good as this then I'll be wel chuffed. Keep up the good work Goldie. :)
  5. Thread revival time! :) My VR has just developed a similar noise to this. The water pump is needing replaced & will be getting done when I get the time. Just wondering Diggerbucket, did you manage to sort your problem & was it the water pump causing it? If so, I can sleep easy tonight! :) Cheers, Dogzyboy
  6. The Oil Light always flashes with the ignition on. It should go out when the car is running, though unfortunately, you can't get to this point at the moment! :(
  7. If I could get my hands on some additional cash I would go for either a 350Z or a 3.2TT. If I was going sensible it would have to be an A4 Avant Tdi. I don't think I'd swap it for something of the same value though.
  8. As I was driving home last I passed a Red, new shape CTR and thought hmmmnn, thats quite smart. 8) A few hundred yards down the road, I pass another red, new shape CTR, then another couple old shape CTRs before I got home. My conclusion was that they are nice cars & are meant to be great to drive, however, they are common as muck & soul-less!! My personal opinion only though you understand! :)
  9. Sounds like the water pump to me. I believe it's designed to leak when it's shot so you know thats where the problem is.
  10. I'd guess at leaky thermostat housing. Purely becasue I'm having similar problems (though loosing a lot less water) & I know that the leak is coming from the crackpipe to thermostat housing connection.
  11. I had pretty much the same problem with mine recently. It would open fine, but would not close & I heard no clicking from the switch. Eventually, after about 10mins of trying, it would close again. I got a used sunroof motor from a guy on here & it now works a treat, though obvbiously only until this motor has the same problem!! Maybe the golf motors are different to the raddo ones and thats why it's not solved it completely for you?

    COIL PACK

A trick for when it's dark is to have the engine running & spray a mist of water of the coilpack area (using a plant mister). If the clicking noise increases & you see sparks travlelling around the water, then the coilpack is goosed.
  13. Based on current prices, and if the condition is good, then I'd say to the right person you might get between £5.5k & £6.5k?
  14. Thanks for the tip. I think you might be right about the combination of extreme heat & over-tightening of the bolts. When I took a look last time, there were a few cracked bits around the bolts. Unfortunately I didn't have the replacement parts at the time & had a car in pieces so had to make do!!
  15. Sorry to say it, but this is by FAR the worst thing I have ever had to do on a car! It took me about a day to get my crackpipe replaced due to the corosion mentioned above. I ended up knackering my shoulder & having an uncountable number of bruises & cuts up & down both arms before I finally managed to get the pipe in!! I have to say though, I chose the jack up the engine method, so perhaps the front off method might save you a lot of time, hassle & pain!?! I've now got a slight sleak from the thermostat housing (surprise, suprise) so I've got to takle that job next. That however is the easy part! Anyway, I hope your venture turns out a lot better than mine did! :)
  16. I believe it's a pretty easy job & is one that I'm going to tackle shortly. Take a look at this post. Aplogies for the link to a rival forum!! :)
  17. Great work. It's looking well smart. 8)
  18. Another huge thumbs up from me here too. It's looking stunning mate, great to hear you getting some recognition for all your hard work. :)
  19. Just changed the water transfer pipe at the weekend. That has to be the worst job ever....I've now got a small leak from the stat housing as it's warped from the heating & cooling it's received over the years. Gonna have to order me some new stat housing parts to stop the drip...
  20. Lovin' it!! There are just too many things to mention, but I reckon I like the bonnet vents & the Ferrari sticker the best!!
  21. Nice one. They look the business! :) I'll try and find out where and when I'll be able to catch up with the local guy & get me a set of these. Hopefully I'll manage to do so before the offer runs out. Cheers for your help. Doug
  22. Hi Yalan, Just really after a good set of wire cutters. Largely to be used for cutting the wire cables used on bikes (of the pedal variety!), though obviously good enough to takle other more substantial wires. Can a mere mortal buy Snap-On products or are they only available to the trade? Cheers, Doug
  23. Slightly random I know, but can anyone recommend a really good quality set of wire cutters? I'm fed up of blindly wasting money on cr@p quality ones & want to just get hold of a set that might actually do the job they're supposed to & perhaps even last more than 5 mins. Cheers. :)
  24. Nice one, cheers mate. I seem to have a growing list of things needing done that require the engione jacked up. I guess I'll just bit the bullet & give 'em all a bash at once!
