  1. Hey mate, I finally got round to having a look today and as i thought the part you supplied was fine and it was actually another part of the internal mechanism of the handle which had broken. The only other handle i have managed to find locally is also broken but im going to check it out tomorrow in the hope that the broken bit will be the part your repair kit originally fixed so i can then try to make one good handle outta the 2 bust ones (regretting leaving it to the last minute now as mot is due on weds!). Just wondered if you could send those instructions through to me again as im sure they will prove to be a great help, i didnt get the last lot but its probably down to my work email not accepting a lot of stuff with attachments, if you could send them to [email protected] it would be appreciated. Cheers mate, Martin :)
  2. that looks awsome mate!!!!!!! 8) Doh, now you got me wanting to build an exact replica of that! :( jeez..........its actually starting to look quite like that! g60greeny its all your fault  8)
  3. finally some stuff to update!!!!! some new stickers: some new brakes, no longer rolls away when parked :thumb right: and lastly new wheels: I well pleased with them 8) , what do you think?
  4. although, other than security, there are no mods that actually really gain any discount, with us (probably not the case everywhere) it can sometimes be cheaper to insure a modified car. We have certain schemes that only quote if the car is modified so these dont show if we enter a modified car and can sometimes (not always) come out cheaper. Things like brakes, although they dont lower the premium often dont increase it either. Martin :)
  5. dont worry, no offense taken everyone is entitled to their opinion its just i can see the viewpoint from both ends of the phone driving a modified Corrado myself and having to deal daily with insuring them for you guys. In an ideal world yeah at HIC all the staff would be enthusiasts like myself and know their stuff however realistically this is not possible. I dont know a huge amount about Brentacre (i have only called them once for a quote for myself and they certainly knew their stuff and where helpfull right up until they asked where i worked...then said they where going to double it! ) and how many staff they have but due to the huge amount of calls we get if it was just the "enthusiasts" we had answering the phones you would be holding ages. We do have a high % of enthusiasts working here (not all VW mind...) and every effort is made to help those who are not into cars have a better understanding (encouraged/paid to go to shows, most monthly enthusiast cars mags delivered to the office every month etc). Also, despite whatever i know about the cars (even if i have read your entire build thread), i am not allowed to assume anything - you have to tell me what is done to the car/increases in bhp etc. The calls are recorded to protect both us & you so in the event of a suspected non disclosure the original call can be checked as it has to be covered on the call. This can be as frustrating for me as it is you, but the calls are regularly audited and if i dont stick to the rules then it counts against me come pay review time! With regard to it just stating "Supercharger" on your paperwork, this is something that i can sypathise with when it comes through on your docs. Our computer has a set list of modifications and there is no way of adding to/changing this list (obviously the people that made the computer system were not enthusiasts!) and there are sooooo many different modifications often we have to select the closest option on the system. The premium is based more on the bhp than the mods you have done to get there so as long as this is disclosed correctly then its fine - the call can always be checked for the exact mods and if you choose to do an agreed valuation then you can go into further detail on the valuation. Hope that helps explain it a bit anyway :)

  8. Hi Dave, my email address is [email protected] I did pm but not sure if it sent. Cheers mate again i would like to add that im 110% certain that the problem is not with Dave's repair kits and is probably more due to me not fitting it quite correctly despite the clear instruction hence why i want another copy!

    insurance HELP!!

£2700! How "relativly young" are you? Martin :)
  11. Hi Dave, I bought one of your repair kits a while back to repair my drivers door handle and it was superb, trouble is the same handle has now stopped working. I am not suggesting in any way that there is a problem with the repair kit as it was excellent quality and i dont see any way in which it could possibly break (especially as it went when my 7 year old daughter was opening the door and she finds them hard to open anyway let alone snap!). I was wondering though if possible you could email/pm me a copy of the instructions again as i didnt keep those you sent me and i found them very clear/essential for the removal/refitting of the handle and think they would be useful to me when i take it all apart again to see why its not working now. Cheers mate, any help would be greatly appreciated (and any suggestions as to what the problem may be, the handle is totally loose on the outside now but still works fine from inside the car?) Martin :D
  12. That is VERY true. This was one of the main reasons we stopped doing short term cover as there seemed to be a huge amount of personal injury claims etc - many fraudulent. We had people taking a 1month policy then having several claims on it and claiming whiplash on all etc. in my experience i have found online quotes extremly unreliable (hence why we currently have stopped offering them!), most companies (particularly aggregators like money supermarket/confused etc) will ask the bare minimum required amount of questions and then base the rest on assumptions so that often when you try to accept the quote you find there are additional questions/fees to pay. Also it is so easy to click the wrong box etc and completly mess up your quote and a computer is not able to underwrite a risk so will purely give you the rate its programmed, you dont get someone experienced who can where necessary say "hmmm this bloke is an enthusiast who has owned the car over a year and has full ncb £1000 seems a bit steep" and then go to some insurers and get you a deal. I agree Corrado's do still seem very expensive to insure (i have to insure mine!) but its swings and roundabouts really. If you want cover for mods/agreed value etc then you have to get specialist insurance which tends to cost more or you can go to a mainstream company and possibly save a couple of quid but pay the price if you have a claim and get "book" price or want to modify the car. The fact many Corrado's are now old enough for Classic insurance should help reduce premiums a lot now in some cases. Well to be fair my best quotes have been with HIC and they do agreed valuations for like £18 or something which is pretty fair. At least you know you'll get a decent pay out in the event that the unthinkable happens! Unfortunatly, as hard as we try its impossible to win them all, HIC are a broker and the actual grouping is done by the insurers we use. The agreed valuations cost £15.75 (which reminds me, i still have to get mine done, i renewed over a month ago!!!! ) Martin :)
  13. dont think you spoke to me? feel free to pm me your surname and postcode and i will see if i can see why you found the quote so high... We ALWAYS disclose all/any add ons and fees on the policies we offer and explain if any are optional, it is an FSA requirement and our calls are audited to make sure we are doing it so if the operator you spoke to did not do this then they where not doing their job properly, again if you feel this was not the case let me know, all calls are recorded so i can check and if necessary remend the staff member tha this needs to be done. Martin 8)
  14. Flux are a sister company of HIC so have access to many of the same schemes anyway. Threads like this achieve very little as there are soooooooooooooooo many other factors other than just age/car so comparisons in this way rarly give any accurate guides as to what you should be paying, other factors such as where you live, occupation, driving history, annual mileage, vehicle value etc can make a huge difference. next time you want any help with a HIC quote though drop me a pm and i will happily see what i can do. 15. Without a doubt it was my last car before the Rado, my mk2 GTI 8v Turbo. The car had a one off turbo conversion built by the owner of a local garage for himself as a laugh with what seems to be whatever bits he had lying aroung his workshop (turbo off a 306 td, intercooler from an escort rst, some of the pipework made outta old exhausts!). It was hugely fast (and thirsty and and little tempremental) and i really regret selling it but at the time it needed some work that i could not really afford and i got an offer which gave me just enough to buy the Rado: engine bay was definatly more go than show.... (looked better once i changed these to the BBS in the 1st pic) Sadly saw it on ebay not so long ago and the engine had been sold seperatly and replaced with a standard 8v along with a lot of the nice bits i had added. :( worst....hmmm hard one cos i have liked all the Vw's i have owned in one way or another but i suppose it would have to be the 1st one i ever bought a j plate jetta 1.6, bit tooo grandadish..... (not counting a grotty mk2 gti i bought for £50 and never had on the road, robbed a load of bits off, then sold for a profit!) :)
