The mk3 GTI 5-stud hubs fit perfectly in the 4-stud hub carrier (using the 4-stud bearing). All you have to do is re-drill your disks to 5-stud and stick the GTI outer CVs on the end of your driveshafts and you're done. Mk3 GTI wishbones and hub carriers are the same as Corrado VR6. Early ones have the same calipers and 280mm disks too, whereas later ones have 288mm disks and different calipers & carriers. The mk3 / VR6 hub carrier assembly will not bolt straight up to a 4-stud car, as the geometry is completely different.

There are a pair of cables attached to the handle - one for each side. Once cable goes straight down, but the other one goes across the back of the seat and through a plastic loop to get down to the lever at the bottom on the other side. The plastic breaks, and so the cable goes slack and so only one side releases. You need to strip the backrest down and fabricate something to replace the loop - a bit of coathanger or thick wire will do the job. Not an easy task, but if you take your time it's DIY-able.

Thanks thats very helpful :cat:

That looks fab in a red car! So much that you have inspired me to do mine from grey :D Do you have any more detail of filling the window switch hole please? What did you do about the texture of the leather vs the filler? Can you see there was ever a hole there now (doesn't look like it in the pics). How did you pick the colour? Did you have something to match it to? I don't have any cream Corrado trim so I'm a bit stuck to get a factory colour.... Not that that necessarily matters, since its all changing from grey, but it would be nice to get it the right colour to match the parcel shelf :cat: Thanks :)

HPI is definitely not infallible - I had a Scirocco which had been stolen-recovered and written off and was still listed as clear on HPI :cuckoo:

Well the Corrado carpet just covers the boot, and stops at the back seat IIRC, whereas the Golf ones go under the seat as well (since the seat lifts up). All I did with mine was trim it where the seatbelts go, and tucked it under the seat. You could just cut it off at the back seat if you want though. The main part of it is the same shape.

Late mk2 Golfs, non-gti/vr6 mk3s, and mk2 Sciroccos all had 4-stud space savers. I have them in both my Corrados with late mk2 or mk3 flat boot carpets :) You could use a Corrado 15" steel wheel, but they are rare and expensive these days. Probably cheaper to find a used alloy, depending on what your '91 came with.
-
Why do you want to replace the column? If there's play anywhere its more likely to be in the rack than the column itself (in my experience).
-
My '91 KR doesn't have the idler pulley, although the 89 and 90 did. It has one belt for the water pump and alternator and another short one for the PAS. I'd guess you just need the pulleys from the later cars.

Well I have all the factory stuff from the VR6, so it ought to just plug in and work. I did think about a later system, but at this stage (and for this car) I don't really want the hassle of integrating the electronics etc. Tbh the only reason I want ABS is to handle the muddy lanes round Devon, where you have to stop suddenly to let people past. I've never needed it in any other situation, but there is a marked difference in how fast my A6 pulls up compared to the Corrado on the lanes.
-
Ah yes thanks. It does supersede to B, and doesn't have EDL. Not a great loss, but it would have been nice to have once I start modding the TDI. The ABS is the important thing anyway. :)

Hi guys, I'm retro-fitting the ABS system from a '93 VR6 to my TDI but I can't work out whether it has the electronic diff lock or not :confused4: The ECU has part number 1H0 907 379. Etka says that number with a 'D' suffix is just ABS, and 'E' suffix is ABS with EDL, but mine has no suffix at all. Is there any other way to tell? Thanks :)

Good stuff :) I had a Scirocco once that was a German import. It had been in the UK for about 8 years, and the first time I took it for an MoT discovered it still had LHD headlights. How the *#@? had it got it's last 8 MoTs? :cuckoo: -
Wow thats going some! I'm surprised it works often enough to do that many miles! :D Ours manage about 20-25 a year, with the mk2 filling in when one or other of them is broken.
-
Didn't we just have one of these threads? 180K on the valver, 204K on the TDI.

The 4-branch manifold has a couple of effects. Number one is to make it louder, as you lose the first silencer. With a full stainless system it can be very loud indeed - mine with a 4-branch and Scorpion system sounded like a spitfire :? Make sure the exhaust has at least as many boxes as the original to keep it to a tolerable volume. Effect two is to put a big spike in the powerband at 4K. It felt like it lost torque at lower speeds, so was pretty docile until 4K when it went nuts as the cams woke up. The 50mm inlet manifold I believe has a similar effect of lifting the powerband.

*laughs at how you blokes exaggerate* :D Dim-dip resistor 6-8 inches long and 2-3 diameter? More like centimeters  :cat:
-
195 50 15 works nicely on a 7x15 - thats the right diameter for the 'rado. But, if you want them stretched then go for the 185 55 15 which is the factory size for the 6.5x15 from the 16V. 194 45 is too small for the Corrado IMO unless you want the Euro cotton-reel-wheels look.

I'd have a close look at the headlight, as it may not be as simple as a bad bulb. One of ours failed a while back because it had virtually no beam pattern - just a splodge - and when I had a look the reflective surface had almost completely burnt away. I think someone had been running high wattage bulbs in it at some point, because the other one wasn't much better. The only cure for that is a replacement headlight :( Try holding a piece of card in front of each light to see what the beam pattern is like. -
Or an electrical wholesale place. If you have a look on later VWs and Audis you will find nice little clips to go on the end of the tubing to keep it tidy. Whenever I go scrapyard visiting I usually come away with a handful of them for future projects :)
-
Rear calipers I presume? Do they have manual or electric handbrake mechanisms? On the later cars you have to have VAG-COM to electronically retract the pistons. If they're manual then they should just wind back in like VW calipers do.

893 012 223 'tommy bar' £2 + VAT :) In most Audis since 1988 and Passats since 1997 (B5)

Audis come with a plastic version of this in the toolkit  I think B5 or later Passats do too.
