It has a vibra technics front mount but there was no mention of modifing it. Ive been told its better to have it slightly tilited to the right to help lubricate chains/tensioners etc.
-
Ok, this is a bit of a strange questions but it would be good to clear up. It looks like my subframe was modified when the 4mo engine was put in and the engine now appears to be tilting slightly to the left. Im hoping to rectify this but I recollect that the standard VR sits at a slight angle to the right. Is this correct or am I talking out of my ass? Does it sit perfectly level?

Thought they might look good but Ive seen some of them in person in 17in and the spokes are too thin, they dont really replicate the speedlines.

Thats never gonna happen. The VRS's came up locally and Ive always liked them plus Ive never seen Corrado with them. Was thinking about the rear mount and adding a spacer/s to shim the engine level. Ive never replaced one but looking at the manual its a case of taking out the central bolt, jacking up the engine, adding a spacer then replace the central bolt with a new one. Is that the case or do you think its a bit heath robinson? Oh and its this photo that has got me thinking about the MO's again.

17in VRS Octavia's. Fairly plain but still use OE bolts. 7in and ET38. Still getting tempted by a set of 16in Compomotive MO's but there god damn pricey and the car really need to get a few of these issues sorted first.

Congrats. Put things into perspective doesnt it.

Looks good, what did you use to clean the headlining?

What do you think of these wheels on the car?
-
If they were snapped then its a good chance the were over torqued putting undue stress on them. Where exactly were they snapped?

Mmmm dont talk to me about PSI. They seemed quite good but Im not impressed by a lot of the work that was done on my car now. Pretty sure it evens states in Bently manual to renew these.

When I got my car MOT'd the guy new the engine wasnt original to the car and asked what year it was from. Stupidly I told him it was 2001 so he tested the cars emissions as a 2001. It promptly failed but that was for another reason. Ive not changed my V5 to reflect my new engine as TBH I didnt even realise it had this on, thought it was just chassis number and capacity. What I'll do is be a guinea pig and submit my V5 with the new engine etc and see what happens. Luckily I the receipt for engine and work done along with the manuf logbook from the original car so shouldnt be any issues.

Thanks, Im going to see if I can get a green one first to save painting. What the best way to feed all the electrical line through? Was thinking of using a coat hanger or similar wire and taping the wires to feed them through. Always take loads of pics when doing this sort of thing, god knows what we did before the digital camera came along.

Anyone replaced a tailgate before that can offer up any tips? I knew I had a small bit of rust but just managed to put a screwdriver right through it earlier. It right on the window seal so Im going to try a replacement tailgate.

Yeah manifold sits a bit higher but I didnt realise they had modified the rear mount on the subframe. They may not have but I dont see why it would have been done before the conversion.
-
Yeah its probably been like that for a while. More annoyed to do with the fact is was loose and not attached to anything. The way the engine has been mounted, to clear the bonnet I presume, means that it tilts the left. This wont help the two bearings on the new casing so Id like to sort that before putting the box in. Its shouldnt be to hard but it did seems a bit of a bodge way of doing it from what I saw. Need a new sump fitted as well as its taken a few hits and is starting to weep. Not the best to spend the best part of £1k and Im further back than where I started at the moment. At least I know whats needing done. Whats the saying, it never rains......

Well these things are never easy..few problems with getting the kit then all wasnt well after it was fitted. I had to get up the road so old gearbox was refitted to get me mobile however the issue was found and it should be a fairly easy fix. Didnt even get time for a remap but it did pull slightly more on Stealths rollers than before. Vince reckons there is room for improvement and they did get everything done sharpish. Aux water pump has packed in and the engine is sitting at a slight angle from the way PSI did the conversion which will need sorted before thinking about the gearbox is fitted. Few other little things that Im not happy about, again it seems to be the way PSI did things. On a positive note I did manage to get 400miles from a tankfull sitting at 80-90mph but it gave me time to think as a few things have occured recently that put things into perspective. Might take it of the road over winter and trying to sort everything and just sell the box on now.

Any1 know owt about swappin out the nasty wood trim in Mk4's
coullstar replied to Leonard's topic in General Car Chat
Did it look pretty OE mate? My mum would kill me if I fooked it up  Yeah, not one person noticed and I even when trading it in the VW guy commented on it as he thought the wood would be there. Just take your time and mask properly. -

Remove said trim, sand lightly and spray with Plasticote paint. Did it on my 4motion and it worked a treat and lasted really well. Better than spending £130+ on the chinzy looking R32 stuff. -
