Which spark plugs for modded G60 and Rallye map sensor ?
g60karmann replied to BigTartanJudge's topic in Engine Bay
Sorry I might be missing the implication of what people are suggesting here. So rather than porting the charger, going for a smaller pulley, removing the ISV (i.e. creating more boost), it is better to work on the thorttle body, manifolds, cam and head? I thought that was kind of a given, making the most of the boost? But CNC, bigger valve, ported heads are expensive ok fitting a cam, porting the throttle body and the manifolds is cheap and easy but wont give anywhere near as much as full on head work. So are people saying it is pointless to use a Rallye 2.5kpa map sensor or just do all the other work first? -
only real answer I can think of is to add polishing up the shiny parts into your regular washing rotine

g60 missfiring / lumpy / dies when dropping the clutch
g60karmann replied to g60karmann's topic in Engine Bay
fixed!!! was the idle screw that needed replacing, was stuck at the lowest idle speed and was too low for it to run properly  -
yeah they really do a good job, if you are looking for a full porting and re-build expect to leave the car with them for a couple of days though, Just a re-build took from 8:30 till 5:00 on mine so didn't get ported this time :(

G60 whistle during rev build up and ecu removal
g60karmann replied to corrado_sunderland's topic in Engine Bay
sorry to hear, you could always try using some sort of sealer round the sensor? By the way I was playing with my boost pipes this afternoon and found that a small blanked off pipe from the boost return outlet on the throttle body had a small split on it, this didn't really bother me as it was only the boost return, but I replaced it anyway. Needless to say it meant that more air is now getting pushed out to the K&N filter on the end of my boost return re-route. I didn't get a whistle bofore when this pipe was split but now the whistle is unbearable... So now I have put a tiny little filter on the end of what was the split pipe and all is back to normal. So if you want to remedy the orignal problem you had in this thread then there you go :D -
ok this is pretty poor but it was last year when the car was original... 133.2 bhp at the wheels 169.8 lb ft at the wheels no laughing

most definetly entered :) there is a car park across from my house so no end of space for more dubs :D

G60 whistle during rev build up and ecu removal
g60karmann replied to corrado_sunderland's topic in Engine Bay
don't worry, you don't have to take the pipes off to check for a boost leak, do a search on here or the knowledge base I think Darren from G-Werks has done a guide on checking for boost leak -
g60 missfiring / lumpy / dies when dropping the clutch
g60karmann replied to g60karmann's topic in Engine Bay
yeah the set up was running ok about a month ago, not perfect still some tinkering needed like I said it is still running a little rich, I reckon it is the battery now you mention it as it died on me not so long ago. The funny thing is it generally runs fine for a bit then when it gets up to temp in traffic it can all of a sudden start coughing and almost dieing. I'll give the battery another charge and give the earths a looking at tonight to see if that helps. Cheers -
G60 whistle during rev build up and ecu removal

the reduced boost is generally down to heat soak on the g60's, mine is random as to when it will hit 15psi but it will hit 11psi at least every time, mine isn't ported at all though, so I am supprised that yours is only producing 13-14psi -
G60 whistle during rev build up and ecu removal

on a standard g60 the ISV will open at 0.8bar and re-route the air back to the superchargers second inlet, as you have fitted a boost return mod the air from the ISV will go wherever your boost return re-route takes it, some re-circ it back to just before the throttle body, some just release it into the engine bay. -
there was also a difference in the reflectors as well, some had black ridges inbetween the two reflectors and some where silver

I thought I had these problems because I am over fuelling slightly but can anyone help me find out what else could be causing this? I have checked the idle screw on the back of the throttle body (how tight does this have to be done up  as I have had to tighten it up a couple of times now), checked for fuel leaks, checked for boost leaks, checked all sensors are working as they should be and the only thing I am left thinking is that my chip isn't right for my configuration? could an incorrect mapping cause missfiring, lumpy starts and the car to die when dropping the clutch sometimes? Any help appreciated

no matter what way you look at it a Corrado is going to cost you money to keep it going as it is going to be at least 13 years old. Though it wont cost you as much a new car. Are you planning to do all the work on the car yourself? If you are starting to learn about engines and want something easy to work on and has big(ish) power a g60 is a damn strong and simple engine, I'm no mechanic and I had the injectors swapped out in about an hour. General maintenance is simple as well, timing, changing the coil, distributor arm and cap, leads and spark plugs all this stuff is really cheap and easy. But the obvious expense all g60 owners have to suffer once every 40k or so is a £450 supercharger re-build, but that isn't a bad price to pay with all the savings you have on the home servicing and lets face it full VAG service history really isn't that big a selling point once the car gets past 100k. I can't speak personally about the 16v engines as I have never worked or driven any of them but the VR's are great engines and as cheesewire says they love the boost, so if you want to go for big power the only choice (not including 20vt or r32) is a VR. just my opinion

a mix of the both would look best IMO black, without the badge and without the eyebrow which basically means getting a new grill so sorry for not answering your question properly :D

I got one from a stand at santa pod, can't remember the shops name, but I would warn you the receiption is cr@p

every little helps, what car is this on?

LOL I have to take it out for other reasons :D a decent mount for the charge cooler and replacing a water pipe below it :( yeah there is the dublands meets run at the rat trap in stratton next one is on the 20th Sep would be good to see you there and I am starting to go to the hungerford meets but missed this months which is the second tuesday of the month at the rail way crossing pub. Any good meets up your way? Cheers for the alloy fab link will get a proper look tonight.

throttle response is very good and to be different :D plus it wont weigh as much as a VR engine :) I'll take it all off and weigh it (including liquid) and I think you will be supprised that it isn't an extreme amount of weight. Plus there are no sharp bends in the flow from the charger to the thorttle body. The main reason though was because I got it dirt cheap and it is far better than the original intercooler, it doesn't feel slow I can asure you of that.
-
I'm not sure about the VRs but I had similar issues on my G60 and it turned out to be the idle screw on the throttle body, have you checked this already? Mine just needed tightening. Mine is running slightly rich as well, when I go on long motorway drives I get a huge build up of carbon sot in the exhaust, when I use the car the very next time after such a drive the car struggles not to stall, every time you dip the clutch the revs drop right down and the car has even stalled a couple of times. Plus when you boot it after such a drive clouds of carbon smoke pour out the back, but this goes away quite quickly.
-
yes that would be fan freekin tastic if they brought out a awd rocco and r32 turbo sounds like a good choice to match, that would definetly make more sense for me as to where the rocco fits in the market as it would then be competing with the TT and the like. Wouldn't be supprised if we saw a convertable
-
I have a chip fitted to mine that has messed with my mfa mpg reading (3.4mpg most of the time) with that reading you have it would be pretty much neat fuel going in and the car really wouldn't run well at all. What is the car doing? Is it just a dodgy idle, cuts out, etc?
-
well I can say noone that has ever been in my car has ever said anything but good words about the comfort of the ride and I can say drives back from Belgium after a long weekend at a metal festival I still had no complaints and I got out of the car feeling fine, apart from the hangover. As for feel round the bendy stuff I rate the KW V1's as top draw and worth making the extra jump from koni's. purpley-corrado-dude I would offer to let you have a go in my car but you are about 5 hours away from me, if I head up north for any reason I will give you a shout

Cheers JMC I'll try and dig out a couple more shots of the rest of the work at some point, yeah I really want to get the charge cooler set up properly, the pump is the main issue as the current one just doesn't flow enough water, header tank is just a nice to have really.
-
need some advise from any one with a charge cooler set up as to what pump to go for? I have seen a nice meziere 30GPM 12v pump but that is $500 which is a little too much for my pockets I have also found a place selling the R32 Aux pumps for $100 so with postage customs n all that it seems like the best option, does anyone know how much and where to get them from here in the UK? Also does anyone know a good rad company? I'm looking for the same size as the 1.6 golf one I'm using at the moment but want to use larger core with bigger gaps between for better air flow to the main rad, just like a intercooler design. last but not least, anywhere that is any good at alloy fab to make a custom header tank to go in the scuttle?
