It probably won't do any damage and you'll never ever hear someone say "it was my Aux water pump that killed my engine" but it just works in the background to increase the life of the engine. Especially for those spirited drivers!
-
Yea it does, doesn't make a massive difference when engine is running but at the complete opposite side of the engine to where the water pump is I bet it's helping!
-
Well once I build my vrt I'll have a spare r32 conversion... Or you could buy my spare r32 engine and rebuild it ;)
-
I've got one, just need to make sure it still runs 100%
-
They are similar but not the same I don't think, the a3 is such a mongrel of an engine. If you search for rubjonny on clubgti or edition38 he has a link in his sig for all the wiring diagrams. I've got them all somewhere but I'm mid house move so they are packed up somewhere
-
Yea tell me about it, done that once and it's expensive! And I didn't get to the engine bay like you have. It's well worth it once it's done though! And hopefully you'll only need to do it once
-
Looking good! Best of luck with the conversion
-
Don't do it, like sanky says it's there to stop localised overheating after the engine has been turned off but I did notice a very minor difference whilst driving. I've got a spare if you need one?
-
That wheel is absolutely miniature! Pretty cool and old skool though. I'm making notes of what needs doing to mine as you update your thread lol
-
Yea, I had a bit of trouble getting it to work and tried a couple of pedals and wiring variations. I looked at the wiring diagrams and luckily the a3 is different to the mk5 wiring, or at least the diagram says so!
-
Build thread is in my signature, not a whole lot of info but soon be updating it when car gets moved to its new home... at my home :) Kev, I've got the hanging pedal to work on my A3 engine, got a pedal from a similar year 1.8t and plugged it in and works a charm! Was properly chuffed, just need to change the pins and plug across as they were different.

Havnt heard of stancedub harness, I got the interior loom so converted it myself. I don't know about mixing and matching, was told all sorts of stuff about reflashing ecu's when mine popped but I went for the safe option and bought like for like
-
Direct from dbw pedal to 3.2 ecu. Are you using the 3.2 loom? Shouldn't need to touch that part of the loom, I'm using an a3 engine fyi

Haha, can tell you've been using visual basic coding, inventor ilogic? I completely agree, I would love to remove it all, to me if you just leave the relay there it's like leaving masking tape on a car that's been painted and saying it's a complete job but I seem to be growing a major ocd complex! I think I'll end up leaving the relay in until I can do more research as I would prefer it to work right than look right

Spal fan wiring and constant full speed dash switch
swiftkid replied to sexybourbon's topic in Engine Bay
I've had a brief look at the wiring over dinner and seems the fan speed is operated within the fan unit itself, the diagram shows you have 2 resistors inside and so speed 1 goes past both resistors, speed 2 goes past 1 resistor and speed 3 is direct 12v connection. So to get 3 speeds you would just need to add the right resistor into each wire and hey ho presto... 3 speed again -

Apologies for the delay, I'm mid house move! Late style please and payment sent. Cheers -
I don't think it's quite as easy as turning it off, I'd like to be proved wrong but I wouldn't even know where to begin to start looking for an answer. I presume it would be like a valve in a water pipe, you can fix it so it's open but if you remove it things won't work properly
-
Just found the link I used to make mine, although I used an old screwdriver handle I had bust:

Ahh you sod! Was hoping to save some money, can you put me down for a set please :thumbleft: -
Absolutely gutted for you! Looks like you were making some cracking progress. Well you never know, situations change and even if you do sell, could always keep tabs on it
-
I've still got the durite aka lisle one and works a treat, made a diy one for the smaller pins with an old screw driver handle and some old Wiper blade metal inserts
-
Ooh that's a nice bit of intake pipework, presume that's home made? Where did you get 180 degree pipe from? That's how I want to route mine
-
I struggled with crackle paint, I found I had to spray it on quite thick then heat it with a heat gun to make it crackle. Think I used vht as well
-
As Jim says they are brass inserts, I used a bolt head to undo them as they are pretty big hex size. once you undo them the full lot should just come out together
