  1. Hello. This question about correct oil temperatures comes up a lot. I know that I am going to get shot down in flames for this but I am sure I read in my Corrado manual that you need to pull over and let the engine cool if oil temperature reaches ... wait for it... 145 degrees   (I hope I didn't dream it :)) Cheers
  2. Jersey Storm, That does sound like a gorgeous car. If the condition reflects the mileage then it could just be one of the nicest around. There are always people banging on about storms being just a couple of badges and a paint job away from a VR6- but its nice to have such an exclusive and rare VW super-coupe. Although I would say that cos thats what I have got  . Its worth checking the sills and rear tailgate still have the white factory stickers- Its a good way to ensure that the car hasn't been in anything too serious. Good luck with it
  3. Cheer for all the replys. Looks like I am going to be on the hunt for some quality tyres before the weather gets really bad. Storm VR6 had hit the nail on the head about the Alfa comment though :) The GTV's have full traction control, whilst the VR6 stops working at 15 mph :?. I should have realised that myself  Cheers
  4. Hello, Just out of interest- What is the most amount of fuel anybody has got into a VR6 fuel tank. I know the obvious answer should be about seventy but I can't remember ever getting more than fifty five in mine  I had panicked about it having a lower capacity tank fitted at some point but I am pretty sure its the original tank. So I will open the bidding at 55 litres.. Cheers
  5. I agree with you on that Kev- they do look pretty nice I once thought about putting them in the bottom of each front door pocket and have them 'uplighting' each door. Not sure that I would do in my Corrado now tho. Cheers
  6. Was that with or without the nitrous though :D :D . Must be quite something to get wheelspin in fourth  . Oh well- looks like I won't be seeing your Corrado around for a while then! Cheers
  7. Hello, Have been having a bit of trouble with mucho in gear wheel spin since the roads have been much wetter. Hard acceleration in 2nd will always bring wheelspin at 4k and it even squirms around in third a bit. I had thought this was a sign of how much power the beast had until I spoke to a mate with a 200 bhp V6 Alfa who said its never happened to him. The tyres are Lee Conquest sports. I know they aren't exactly expensive ones but they have good tread and I was going to leave them on until the alloys get refurbished after winter but I will take them off ASAP if its going to make the difference between going into a wall and not!! Anyone else have this problem or do I just need to get some decent tyres :( :( Cheers
  8. Smudge, I did mine by cleaning them all down with Autoglym leather cleaner, and then remoisturising them with Autoglym cream. Took all morning and to be fair the stuff smells like s****, but it did bring them up a treat. In fact I am going to do the same again this weekend :D Cheers *****mod edit***** swearing-vr6storm
  9. Joe, I am with Kev on this one- Its almost certainly the fuel pump :( but don't despair just yet :) . When I got my VR6 its the first thing I noticed. I took it straight down the the local VW specialist and asked for a new pump to be fitted but the guys took one look (or listen!) to it and said they always make some level of noise- apparently when they do go you really do know about it!! It always worth changing the filter though. The car still goes like a space rocket and the sound never got any worse so I wouldn't lose much sleep over it. Hope this helps Mike
  10. Hi Matt- My VR was dropped onto bilsteins when I got it. I have seen gaps between the strut tops & the car on mine but only when the car is parked with with lock on the wheels. It doesn't seem to affect anything tho & the shocks are pretty new. I would be interested to know whether that gap is a problem or not- Let me know how you get on Cheers Mike
  11. Hi Lenny, I like that idea about the discs not being flush with the hub - The only thing is I don't think the discs have been changed since new (its on 78K- does that sound right?) so I doubt the discs have ever been off. Was your problem with original discs or had they been replaced previously (its just that I haven't always had this problem & the discs have never been off since I had the car) Cheers for all the advice all Mike
  12. Hi, Things seem to go wrong on my Corrado storm faster than I can fix them :(. The latest problem is a noticeable steering shake at 80mph+ (private roads of course 8) ) ) It feels exactly like the wheels are out of balance except you cant 'drive through' the vibration. Had front wheels checked & balanced- still no better. Could rear wheel imbalance cause this problem? Otherwise could any point me in the direction of which bushes would most likely have given up the ghost? Cheers
  13. Furki, I am in the same boat as you bud. Although I am also looking for a spare key fob as well but am not sure if they will be able to help me. Will you let me know if laserline were any help. If si I'll give them a ring as well :) , If not I won't bother. :( Cheers Mike
  14. Chris- I should have mentioned that its going in for insurance work so it may not be the cheapest place around  . I would like to hear how you got on tho :) . Cheers Mike
  15. I'll second Volks Parts in Durham. I would far rather send it there then risk the stealers getting their hands on my C
  16. I am game for a north east session :D . There are quite a few people who are from my area on this forum so I reckon it could be done.
  17. Chris- My VR is going in for a part respray at a place called J&B coachworks in houghton le spring. Its booked in for 16th september. I can get a price for you if you want when I drop ma car off :D . Otherwise I'll let you know how it looks Cheers
  18. OK- Now things get technical :( the relays work and the seats heat up ever so slightly. The seats must be thermostatically controlled and the control unit must think the seats are hotter they really are because you can hear the relay clunk off again after about 15 secs. If anyone could look in a manual and tell me where this relay is it would be much appreciated :) :) I'll get the bugger replaced with a new one. Cheers
  19. Not that its going to cause me too much bother in this weather  but I spent the weekend cleaning and remoisturising the leather (auto glym stuff- made a BIG difference!), turned on the seats just to check and neither work :x  I heve checked the fuse, checked the plugs that go into each seat but all looks good. There must be a relay/ control unit somewhere for this- Does anyone know where :?:
  20. Kev, Have done some more searching and answered my own question  the VR6 has a kind of two stage pump in a single unit. Though I noticed you had previously solved a noisy fuel pump just by changin the filter so I will give that a try first. Cheers
  21. Kev, I have seen your previous posts on Fuel pumps. Am I right in thinking that there are two pumps on the VR6- A lift pump in the tank and a main pump under the car? The noise is definitely coming from inside the tank because I can feel the vibration when I hold the bottom of the tank so I was guessing lift pump :? What do you think? Cheers
  22. James, I am sure I read somewhere that if you disconnect the battery for a couple of hours then you need to go through an ECU reset procedure. I think this information is in the bentley manual and is only applicable to VR6. I think there are a couple of posts about it. I'll do a search :? :? Cheers Mike
  23. Hello, Had some trouble with the idle this morning- It was a very damp and heavy morning and the car idle kept jumping between 1000 & 1500 revs. Used the car again an hour later- the engine went straight to its correct idle & no more probs.I was going to clean the ISV on Sat (although I think it might also be coil pack related?). Can anyone tell me how to do it & what to use. I also want to reset the ECU- again any advice? Finally there is a high pitch whining noise in the car that i think is coming from the fuel tank. Does this mean somethings on its way out :( :( . Would appreciate any help. The car is a VR if that helps. Cheers
  24. I don't think they will write it off to be fair. It cost me £7300 but the book price is still £6000. Its only done 77k with full VWSH etc so I reckon it will get repaired. The guy says it needs new sill, door, rear quarter and respray on one side of the car. I would appreciate your help tho James- What about six pm ish tomorrow (Sunday)? Cheers
