Morning, Just got the insurance details through from a renewal only to find I have to provide proof of fitting for a thatcham cat2 immobiliser, even though I told them I didn't have any certificates when I ordered it  The good news is I have just found out it has the factory immobiliser in the key fobs :) , whilst I am pretty sure this will be classed as a cat 2 immobiliser in itself, does anyone know for definite? Cheers

Hi- It looks like I have arrived a bit late on this thread :? , Its just I am looking for new HT leads at the moment; the old ones have been on for 90k and have been cut to buggary on the HT lead clips- these sound like just the ticket. Anyone know how much they are and what the ford part number is please.. Cheers Mike

How much is an AMD remap- Is AMD the place where you get it done or the chip that you change? Sorry to sound daft, its just the thought of having an extra 20bhp under my right foot is kinda tempting

If there is no other way to gain access to the dent then you will have to drill a hole to get a tool to the back of the dent- especially if its rear quarter panel. I had a bad dent just above the fuel filler cap and one at the bottom of the rear wheel arch flare. I had the guy drill a small 4mm hole in the wheel arch and a hole the same size inside the fuel filler recess- both dents came out perfectly and the holes were treated and are not noticeable at all now. Saying that I would be a little less keen to have hole drilled in the door pillar- if thats where you mean.- especially if its a half inch one :? Cheers

I know what you are saying Kev but I reckon the OE mount must damp down/ cushion the engine vibration a bit more than the VT one- After all its twice the size with about four times as much rubber in it. I may notice it more cos I fitted a racing mount rather than the fast road one (On Vinces advice) so its an even harder compound than standard  . Mike

I'm with you on this mate. I think the vibratechnic mount is superb but it does make the car feel a shade less refined :? Mike

Tyre wear question (not my car tho)
Ice White Socks replied to Ice White Socks's topic in General Car Chat
No there is definitely a name for it- its caused by serious rear end unalignment from crash damage. I actually picked it up from this forum but I can't find the information now  Cheers -
Nice one 8) , thanks mate
-
Yes mate- the noise is just the gear lever itself knocking against its rest- I can stop it just by holding the gear lever. Cheers for the advise- I'll have a look at the weekend. Mike

my wife just traded the 1.8 turbo golf for an 03, r32 golf
Ice White Socks replied to muskie's topic in General Car Chat
Sounds like a nice car mate. Its a nice setup cos you can blat the r32 when you are in the mood and know that you won't break something (ie as oppose to a VR :( ), but still have the class of the corrado for all the other times. Mike -
No I didn't- but the engine really doesn't move at all now and it hasn't made any difference to the ticking at all. I know what you are saying though

Hello, A mate of mine was looking at an Audi A3 1.8T over the weekend. He gave me a ring about it and I told him to check the tyres weren't wearing funny. He came back and said the rear tyres were wearing in patches i.e the outer and inner treads on both rears went bald-tread-bald-tread-bald etc There is name for this kind of wear because I was warned against it by this forum when I was Corrado hunting- I so wanted to remember it at the time but I couldn't. Whats it called and what causes it (Obviously I know its bad news- I told him just to walk away- I don't even think the garage knew about it to be fair cos my mate said the the owner of the garage was looking at the tyres when my mate was leaving) Of course the garage will put a couple of crappy tyres on the car- and the poor sod that looks at it next won't have any idea they are buying a lemon :x Mike

Hello, Have noticed that my gear knob seems to be moving/ vibrating more then it used to when moving at high revs in low gears. Even more annoying is it ticks as it bangs against its rest. I was hoping it was just due to a sloppy engine mount but that has been replaced with a hard as nails vibtra-tech racing one. The engine now feels like its been concreted into the engine bay :) , but it still ticks :? Is there a bolt I can tighten in the gear selector/ gear shifting assembly that will tighten the movement of the gear knob, anyone.. Cheers Mike

I just fitted a Vibratechnics racing mount over the weekend. Cost a lot of money (about £135 IIRC :( ) Has made a huge difference to the feel of the car going up through the gears- feels much more precise. I used to hate nailing it in first gear because it never pulled properly because the engine was wallowing around so much- now it just feels tight as the proverbial nuns chuff. The downsides are the engine feels a little noisier and more metallic from the inside- presumably because there is much less rubber to damp the vibrations down- nothing too bad though- its just enough to be obvious. Mike

Great stuff this mate 8) , I am printing it off now and doing this evening- so hopefully it will go as well as yours did- and if it saves me £400 in stealer charges   , I'll be laughin! Mike

Hello, Whilst most people spend sat evening in the pub, I've decided to 'ave it by stripping the front seat down to renew a bolster, fix heated seated seats and stop the seat rocking, I have come on to print off Mr Haywires and Storm2's excellent guides to the above. I have a problem with the seat rocking though in that the guides which I though were missing are actually still on. The right side has a white one, left side a grey one- The thing is the left side has spaces for two grey ones but only one is fitted. Should there be two guides on one side and just the one on the other :?: . I'll be back sometime about 2am when I have sorted the heated seat and bolster so quick answer please   Cheers Mike

Hello, Got the good news that my brother has put an offer in for whats sounds like a nice G60-he saw it for sale at the Guildford meet this week, took it for a drive and now he is smitten. Should make a nice change from his crappy old Scirocco (I do like Sciroccos mind- its just his is a particularly bad example  ) and it should look nice parked up to my VR on the drive. Just wondering if anyone new anything about the car. If the owner is a member- hope you don't mind me posting the reg  , you haven't got any pics you could post though have you :D Hope he buys it- can't wait to take it for a spin and hear that supercharger sing :) :) Cheers Mike

I have a mate who has the V6 Alfa GTV- lovely car cos its black with a red leather Momo interior 8) . Its a lovely drive but its always breaking down- and I am not talking door handles or headlight switches but £1200 ABS brains etc. I think that the corrado is probably a much better engineered car- Its lucky the guy had shelled out extra for a warranty otherwise he would literally be about £3K out of pocket. It could just be a bad example though- I suppose every make of car has its lemons :? Mike

Hello, I woke up on Sunday morning to be greeted by the glorious sight of a panel ding in the offside rear quarter- just about an inch above the filler cap. Its just trolley ding sized but god knows how it got there :x - I only got the panel resprayed a few months ago too. Anyway the paints not broken so gonna get it removed in the paintless style. I know they have to be able to get to the back of the dent- what would be the best way to reach the back of the dent- could you get it from the inside, or maybe from right under the wheel arch- or is there no way to access it ? Cheers for any help Mike

Fook that really really is scary  , that could have been so much worse. What idiot would have done that

I think VR6's are deceptively quick, I only know get a feel for the speed by watching how quickly the cars disappear in the rear view mirror (well except for using the speedo ). Theres no way the coolant should boil like that tho- obviously something not right there :?

Hello, Am intending to have a crack at changing the seat bolsters next weekend and at the same time doing the bottom 'bum' pad. All I want to know is how much the bottom pad is, and whether the heated seat element lie inside the pad (ie so I will have to ask for a heated seat pad at the stealers), or whether the heated element is a separate part (like maybe lies above it or something). Any advise on changing the pad would be appreciated. I will be following Mr Haywires bolster guide 8) looks easy enough though I am a bit nervous about drilling that rivet out  . Cheers Mike

Nick- Can I have a pic too please :) - ta

Just to bring this back from the dead, ( I had forgotten I had written it in the first place and only found it in the search  ), how easy is it to change the front engine mount. All it was is that I am going to get a new vibratechnics front mount to avoid any future bonnet mods in the stormseeker stylie :( , I'll save a few quid and do it myself if its not too hard. Cheers
