Its German reliability that is now around seventeen years old...........why were there no seventeen year old Austin Allegro's..?...........

Good film more of an 8/10..............

i would have thought any power figures VW give would be with 98 ron as it says on mine inside the filler cap to use 98 ron. So maybe a 6-8% LOSS if you use 95...........

I quite liked the silver one, but i wouldn't write that in a post, on a thread, on a forum, out loud................. :nono:

Oh dear...some 'opinions' on the great car.
daleyboy replied to sprinterVR6's topic in General Car Chat
Im ashamed to say my daily is a Vauxhall Calibra :camp: , its horrible, it understeers everywhere like every vauxhall the steering feels vaguely attached to the front wheels with something approaching meccano. But it is reliable and cheap parts. Dont even bother asking me which one is best to drive........................ -
The Hurt Locker............about 7/10........... :salute:

Oh mate that is one long post......... Lots of work ahead, or just stop for a moment, and think to yourself is this the car for you? If the answer is no ( it would be a no for me from what you've written, rust is a car killer ) then tart up sell on, good luck with that. If the answer is yes then strip down everything especially from underneath and do an aggressive rust removal/treatment etc etc. From what you've written sell on and move on, but you only know the answer to your own question about what to do. Where is the rust the chassis? the rear beam? sub-frame? Good luck mate............... :salute:

The water pump is usually more difficult to turn, the sound your looking for is like a skate board going down the road........................

And a couple from underneath..............

If thats the case nothing is stopping you. I bought a standard car, and am doing what I want to it keeping all the old parts to be able to put it back to standard if i want. I am keeping my car for as long as i can, so i, like you is the one that has to live with it. Just think carefully about each and every mod, take your time and you'll be ok. Good luck..........Dale

I had a very quick chat with Ian at Mark Tempest Auto's in Welwyn Garden City, and he was telling me about using the plate from an old bbj to use as a spacer in the slot of the wishbone then put the new bbj on top of the wishbone with the three bolt plate at the bottom to help lower the wishbone on uber lowered cars. He also mentioned about swapping left/right tre because they were kinked at the end, he claimed that this would reduce understeer. They Race tune C's allegedly, but i dont have enough knowledge to doubt him or agree........... Also has anyone tried a male/female (connected) rose joint for the drop links on the ARB.? ....................

I just disconnected the rear brake bias from the beam then hacksawed the bolt and the beam can drop down, you cant get the bolt out otherwise cos it butts up to the it. These bias valves do cease in time, but mine was fine so couldnt see why i had to remove it, ive had no problems with the bolt the other way in............... :salute:

It can help to fill it up at bit via the top hose...........also worth checking the new stat, put in boiling water etc etc 2 min job gives piece of mind.........these cars are bad (or good ) at getting airlocks(on a VR).......
-
I would go to the dealer and get the bushes myself and just give them to the garage to fit, other wise you may end up with ropey bushes..........would be a shame to skimp on the bushes what with doing all that work, the general consensus on this forum is to always fit genuine oe rear bushes to maintain the passive rear steer effect............ :salute:
-
Spot on that  Im with you there, i still like the oe speedy's think they suit the car well..........
-
I hacksawed the beam bolt off and then put it the new one in the other way, which is the only alternative if you dont want/need to cut off your brake bias valve...............
-
Why not just paint your wheels black then ?....................... Or orange..............

Thanks lads for the comments and for looking, when im doing nothing special, like putting a bi-turbo fire breathing monster together........ :salute:

It was just my generator, an angle grinder and drill, with a heavy duty wire wheel (i got through 6 of them) some acid etch primer, and a friend of mine got some 2-pack paint and hardener and i brushed it on. Wish i had done my back beam with 2-pack as its much better than Hammerite Its really hard work holding on to the angle grinder for an hour at a time, but i think it was worth it...............
