if ^^^ falls through, I have a black one you can have for free, I'm in Oxford. As picture really, no glass, got window mech I think and a good handle (will check). Was given to me and been sat outside, no signs of rust though. Happy to pass it on. Someone else grabbed the drivers door a couple of years back.

16v won't fire up after inlet manifold swapping
boost monkey replied to rado mc's topic in Engine Bay
an ISV wouldn't stop a car revving. My ISV has always been dodgy but I can still rev the engine. -
if there is a company willing to offer classic insurance to modified Corrados, I know a ton of people would be up for it.
-
getting all that in a 205 is impressive Andy!
-
Phil, going back to your original picture? what is the black thing which is hard up against the wheel arch side of the strut tower? is that your rubber top mount?
-
you're right. You can see how the rubber mounts though. This is what all the top mount plates I've seen look like, classic Mk2 items (on right with plastic ring on edge): they don't have any markings inside the dropped centre like yours do, they're just a huge washer basically, with a sunken section in the middle, perhaps 1" deep? If my car was outside, I would go take pics! :/
-
brilliant, thanks a lot :D
-
mk2 golf ones should fit yeah, AFAIK the mech is identical.

I know that just for a gasket set including oil seals etc etc from VW is about £200 ish, last time I checked (couple of years ago).

Does anyone have any pics horizontally across the bottom deck of the VR6 block showing how far the crank web sticks out over this face? I'm trying to see how deep I need to make my dry sump. Also other useful pics would include: underside of block with no oil pump (showing main oil gallery that the pump feeds), VR6 crankshaft (with dimensions if possible) or if someone just has a dead block they want to sell me or swap for parts (will need it delivered) that would be great. The flushing agent is good stuff, comes in 2.5L square bottle (like an oil can) and isn't expensive. Whoever decided to put the thermostat in the coldest part of the cooling system on the K deserves a pat on the back

I wouldn't really class K series technicians as knowing much about engines tbh.

my fronts before I fitted them
-
really? I've got VR6 gas shocks on my plum all round and my top mounts don't look anything like that. They almost look like they're from another car. All the top mount plates I have seen on Cs look like the mk2 ones. I'll scour my thread and try to find the pics of my suspension building.

you can buy drophead spanners that should fit, can't remember the size though. You will probs need to sleeve the spanner with a bar to increase the torque to undo with.
-
surely thr ered face was partly due to the non PAS? Before I got into VWs, I had an anthracite grey 1.6 gti which I gave to Pug Racing in Dorset and they put the XU9J4 in it for me. Never had experience of a standard one.
-
ok, that's the rubber mount covered but where did the metal plates come from?
-
it's an aftermarket item so it seems. I've never seen that before. Some fussy garages would consider that an MOT fail too, can't remember why though. Never seen that top mount before so I could be wrong. Any particular benefits of them?
-
Glad you got it fixed, it really isn't that heavy without PAS though. Mine has never worked!

surely you would take that much metal off with a boring machine? a self centering machine that goes down each bore taking off a set amount of material, leaving you XX amount to hone back with a handheld tool. I've never seen a honing machine, only a handheld one which looks like a huge powerdrill with extra 180 degree handles on it. -

Do machine shops use different equipment to hone then? The one I worked for (albeit out in the sticks in the caribbean) did iit exactly how you did. The guy had been doing them for years and could just tell by the feel of the tool in the bore. -

0.01mm is ~ 0.4 thousandths of an inch. Great to see some precision work being done. Bores look much better afterwards! I'm surprised that the honing tool wore down so quick. What is the material on the tool made from? -
K-Jet ftw! who wants fancy pants EFI when you can have a wobbly old metering head pushing fuel through little straws called K-jet injectors!! i'd actually love to drive a standard KR on EFI like megasquirt or something. I bet driveability and smoothness are a great increase.

Great updates as always. I heard that some of the Mexico cars suffered from poor bodywork treatments. I hope you don't find anything unexpected lurking! Prodigal's G60 is Hecha in Mexico too, although a check of my VIN shows a Wolfsburg origin. -
check your engine mounts. if one of them has gone the whole exhaust system may have shifted. Has happened on my car before now. hth.
