StueyBs '95 VR6: Thread resurrection circa 2011...
mariojoshi replied to StueyB's topic in Members Gallery
I think you forgot to mention the absolute bargain price that you got these for! :fondle: Loving the contrast! Can't wait to see it! -
Maybe get a 2nd bumper and cut out a section around the standard exhaust hole, fibreglass it onto your other bumper from the inside, fill the gaps and get it repainted. would be time and money, but surely would look properly OEM+!

Happy to be of service... and happy to be helping with the safety aspect of modding corrados! I know a lot of people don't care that their Indis flash red.. but personally, I don't like it one bit!

Theres a place in Canterbury called Sam's Garage which is absolutely brilliant. throughout Uni, I trusted the car of my car to Sam and his team and was never anything but satisfied with the service. They gave me loads of free advice and had good prices too.

Cheaper indeed, but it depends what engine. For the VR i was quoted £70 for ONE HOSE from VW. The Samco kit at £190 ended up being a bargain! Other than that, they are better in terms of wear rates etc, but let's be honest. Your standard hoses have lasted this long... so does it even matter?! I can't see that there really could be any "performance" benefits unless you drive your car so hard that you pop coolant hoses ;)

The prelude still has an awesome dashboard though! Was very impressed when I first saw that!

I've had an AutoQuim chamois for years and it's great! Keep trying mate... hopefully you'll end up getting on with it. I'm actually being thoroughly converted to Megs stuff at the moment, however. having just got a claybar kit, some microfibre towels and the gold class shampoo and some foam applicators... I really have to say that I'm nothing but impressed with the quality of the whole lot. Still use SRP and EGP for the mo, as it still seems to work well, but i'm sure I could convert to megs for all that aswel! I've yet to try a water magnet.. but might give one a while someday!

NEW CORRADO FORUM INSURANCE SCHEME VIA CHRIS KNOTT INSURANCE
mariojoshi replied to ChrisKnottIns's topic in Insurance
Just moved my business over from Flux to Chris Knott. Excellent friendly service over the 'phone, they don't seem to mind about small mods here and there either. They also provided me with a very reasonably loading on my policy for when the charger goes on. All in all, so far I'm a very happy bunny. Many thanks to John who ran through the quote and the chap who dealt with payment... who I didn't catch the name of. -
Temp Issues Water and Oil 2.0-9a-16v Looks like rad
mariojoshi replied to vwdeviant's topic in Engine Bay
Fookin crazy. I still can't work out where all that water went last night! No steam, no leaks... etc! Ah well, here's hoping it's sorted for the mo. Your theory on the oil temp spike could make sense, but I'm not really sure how the oil coolers work on these engines so can't really qualify it. I'd be inclinded to have her pressure tested though, just in case. Such an easy and cheap job that maybe it's worth it just for peace of mine? -
Keeping low on fuel for better performance ?
mariojoshi replied to shawshankkid's topic in General Car Chat
I haven't checked the link.. but I believe he also always kept it clean for "maxium aerodynamic efficiency" or some bollocks. At the end of the day.. it's a corsa... or astra.. or whatever. -
Another vote for Dunlops (SP2000s), from my polo-ing days - 8s with a 175 was a bit crazy but it did work! (previous owner) Also - I found the Bridgestone Potenza RE720s to be the best tyre I've ever used

Yeah, mine did that aswell matey, I think washing the car and direct sunlight fades em. Best bet is to give em a bit of laquer to help. To be honest, giving them a tidy up every so often isn't too bad. I've been through about 3 or 4 sets of bulbs now in the quest of finding something that I consider "safe" Call me an idiot or whatever.. but I just get a little bit woried knowing that people can't see my indicators... as I also had an incident when someone got very annoyed about not being able to work out that I was trying to turn! I can pretty much guarantee that these are THE brightest bulbs that are going to be available on the market. They are SILLY bright SILLY orange! Can probably see em for miles at night! Importantly, they are visible even in bright sunlight. I bought these from the link below and they were excellent. http://cgi.ebay.co.uk/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&item=190239136459&ssPageName=MERC_VIC_RSCC_Pr4_PcY_BIN_Stores_IT&refitem=320251318667&itemcount=4&refwidgetloc=closed_view_item&usedrule1=StoreCatToStoreCat&refwidgettype=cross_promot_widget&_trksid=p284.m183&_trkparms=algo%3DDR%26its%3DS%252BI%252BSS%26itu%3DISS%252BUCI%252BSI%26otn%3D4

*ROLL UP ROLL UP* Guess the weight of a VR6 Timing Chain Kit
mariojoshi replied to mariojoshi's topic in Engine Bay
Hehe, some amusing replies there, Thank you good fellows. That's plenty of info to be getting on with. I'm actually surprised they weigh that much, I mean.... I know they take a lot of load, just somehow don't look that heavy! Another thing I noticed (at the London Motorshow) is that the Subaru boxxer engine is dual chain driven, that must be a pain after a lot of mileage! Twice as many guides and tensioners to replace! -

*ROLL UP ROLL UP* Guess the weight of a VR6 Timing Chain Kit

Well.. Sounds like a really dumb question, BUT - a good friend of mine is over in the states at the moment and he's due back in a couple of weeks. I'm trying to persuade him to bring me back a timing chain kit for the old VR but he's asking how big and what the weight of it is etc... Might even be able to get a headgasket set too.. who knows what I can blag eh! I doubt they can be that heavy really and out of the packing, and surely not that big either! Obviously this rules out heavy postage costs to the UK(as most of these US places (fourseasons/MJM etc) seem to ship free to most places in the US) and possibly even the customs charges?! SO... who's the brightest sparkplug in the corradoforum's cylinder head then eh? ;) Thanks all, Josh -
Arggh Jealous much! If you weren't so fookin huge.. I'd hurt you next time I saw you Astons make me need a cushion.... :norty:

hahahahahaaha! Quality! Get a Frogmobile and I'll start calling you Pinky!
-
Hehehe, true enough Jon, true enough. I just stole your signature. Big nomad love!

Personally, I'd get the practical thing you can! (The Skoda!) Be sure to remember the tax implications of this... it ain't exactly free.

I promise, hand on heart that this is a genuine readout and not a "quick.. reset it whilst you're going downhill!" This was on a journey from North London to Northampton and back when I had a dodgy leaking coolant hose. Did about 55-60 all the way there and back and managed this..... Strangely.. even, irnoically, I was making the journey to collect a supercharger! Not otherwise usually associated with good MPG ;)
-
Hummmmm Both myself and a good friend have got exactly the same weitec kit and top mount kit, both on late VRs and haven't noticed any problems...?!? :confused4:

The staff can be pretty terrible... one guy that worked there just before I left didn't know what a car jack was.. and what you did with it. Needless to say.. he worked on the parts department! On the other hand.. you can often come across some absolute gems.. another guy I know is completely refurbing and rebuilding a mk2 escort and loves his cars so knows quite a bit. Shame they all get tarred with the same brush... but the training is non-existant so it's hardly surprising.
