  1. Not if you get a GTV V6 you wont. I owned one of these but refuse to comment on anything thats not a Corrado due to being labelled a Troll by one of the mods on here previously...
  2. Sounds like dead tappet/s, Might be worth you dropping the 5w/40 out and sticking some 10w/40 in, How long has the oil been in there?. is it doing it all the time or only when cold or hot?
  3. 138 is a bit high, mind you my old one used to sit around 118-120'c at high speed cruise in the summer.. I guess if your rad is a bit old and crusty and your thermostat is not opening fully then that might help a little but i still think the VR's do not have enough cooling on the oil side of things in what is a very cramped engine compartment. Mocal cooler sits on the front crossmember in front of the water radiator and has a sandwich plate which replaces the existing water to oil heat exchanger. Im out to the Ring in August from the 13th - 17th, 16 of us going this year and yes koln is only 50 miles away so your more than welcome to come and join in 8) Cheers Pete.
  4. Can you get a sound/video clip on your mobile host it somewhere and post the link here?, easiest way to hear the noise... Regarding the oil, how long did you leave it after switching off before dipping and adding the half litre?, all the oil might not have drained back to the sump so the reality is you might have added only 300-400ml of actual used oil, think you can see what im trying to say. Many VR's use a litre every 1000 miles under normal driving, at those sort of revs and oil temps i wouldnt be surprised to see high oil consumption, why VW never fitted a air fed oil cooler ill never know, i got my VR's oil temp upto 160'C on the Nordschleife, luckilly i knew that it was going to be the case and i was running 5W/60 Shell Helix racing oil. Might be a good idea if your going to doing lots of high speed Bahn blasts to fit a Mocal, guess what im doing today!, Ring trip in 4 months!
  5. I pay about 280 quid for a modded VR6, fully comp,commuting and 12000 miles a year.. Admiral multicar...
  6. I would hazard a guess that TPFT would not be much less than fully comp, the risk that the underwriters see is the driver and third party loss more so than the repair value of a 15+ year old car, when i was shopping for quotes there was about 5% difference in price between comp and TPFT. Good luck in getting a quote thats going to be sensible'ish but i think you might have your work cut out and im not sure if insuring a VR6 after a DD spell is going to be economical at all, i certainly couldn't justify spending that sort of cash.....
  7. I think whoever you go with its going to be a case of bend over and take it im affraid. Did you not get quotes before buying the VR6?. I really think your going to struggle on this one, how old are you? I wouldnt be surprised if your going to be paying 2k upwards..
  8. Elise was never about straight line speed anyhow, It is about feel good factor, ive driven all types of Elise from K series to Audi to Honda K20A Supercharged on road and track and all of them no matter what the power output have put a smile on my face. A light high reving engine is what the Elise is about imho and i like the idea of having to work a car like that hard to get the best from it, at least with a engine that is not stupidly powerful your not going to be going stupid speeds which lets face it is just asking for trouble on the roads today. Weight is an issue but its a case of supply and demand, if Lotus want to survive they have to make the car more attractive to a broader spectrum and if that means they have to cater for the softer driver who wants air con then if that means the co. stays profitable and keeps going then thats all good in my book...
  9. Ive got both on my driveway. But the last time i defended another car that wasnt a Corrado on here i got labelled a Troll by a Mod so im staying out of it, having a realistic unbiased view on things is frowned upon... :cuckoo:
  10. Looking at the OP previous postings there is a picture of the underside of the car and it is soaking wet with oil, i think it has been leaking for a long time...
  11. That breather pipe is fine and you wouldnt lose the whole sump full of oil out of it either.
  12. Thats a bit like the Mk1 Gti Campaign vs normal Mk1 Gti, Bottom line is they are so rare in good nick that there is little or no premium over a Campaign than a stock Mk1 Gti nowadays. Reality is no one is going to pay much more if anything in afew years for a Storm over a equally as tidy VR6 with leather, if Storms had something over a stock VR6 like a factory VSR manifold or some equally as rare factory upgrade then sure but they dont.... Pays your money and takes your choice (but dont pay much more for a Storm!)
  13. He will need the coilpack loom and ecu then. Coilpack ECU is different to Dissy ECU.
  14. You will be fine but you will need to remove the dissy, top timing chain cover and dissy drive from the inlet cam and swap your bits over onto the 'new' engine..
  15. There is still a premium with Storms, not as much as it used to be as the prices for all Corrado's have dropped. Personally i would just look for the best condition VR6 regardless of it being a storm model or not.. I would rather have a recaro leathered air con'd VR6 over a Storm all day looooooooooooooonnnnnnnnnnngggggggg and im sure most would agree....
  16. Why must it be a Storm?, There is nothing really different to a late leathered up VR but for a couple of badges, Solitude's and a colour coded grille..
  17. K plate green G60 or 16v with debaged grille and M3 rear lights on the A265 between Etchingham and Hurst Green around 4.25pm this afternoon

that looks absolutely spot on on those Compo TH's. My ultimate wheel and id love to get a set for my Flash VR too, are they 5x100 cos most of the sets i see are 5 x 98 for the Italian stuff?..
  20. What do you need doing? You could have popped into see me on your travels when you were over here. There's not much i dont know about these cars now..
  21. great stuff, Im collecting my air con kit tomorrow so a great day all round 8)
  22. Make sure the drain hole in the rubber neck shroud are clear, if not water sits in the shroud and speeds the rusting process. I cleaned mine up the other day, stuffed some tissue down the neck and wire brushed all the loose crap off then copper greased the neck, job done...
  23. They dont need to give you the full details of the car merely what model and yr it was. Bottom line is i and many others including MOT testers i know have never heard of any vehicles being excluded from the emissions test because no CAT is fitted. Also many CATs cant be differenciated from a small silencer box in the exhaust so i dont see how this can be enforcable, how can they prove that a small silencer is not a cat and vice versa??. Also what about the number of cars that run underbody aids (ie Lotus Elise etc) that dont enable you to inspect to see if a CAT is fitted or not, are they going to fail the MOT test too even if they pass the emisions test?
  24. I want to know what context it failed on so need to know the code and the context of the failure. Ill speak to my mate this weekend. And also what car, year of reg and fuel type
  25. the VOSA code next to the bit that says cat not fitted.. Begins with a number 7
